We love this sweet little farm! Strawberry picking at Hyde Farm is an annual family outing we first stumbled upon right before the pandemic, and now we stalk the Facebook page every year beginning in late March to catch the announcement of strawberry season. If you're not into farm labor, you can pick up containers of freshly picked berries for $6 a container, and with the farm store conveniently located right off 411, a quick stop is easy if you're in the area. For us, we are rarely in that area, but it's worth the 45 minute drive from our house, and we love supporting a Blount County farmer who has been in business since the 70s. The store provides buckets for collecting your strawberries, so you can pay for the buckets after weighing or bring your own containers to transfer the strawberries after purchasing. Be warned, though: Hyde Farm strawberries will ruin you for store-bought strawberries, so pick enough to stock up your freezer.
The store also offers gorgeous produce, locally made baked goods or packaged items (honey, candy, etc.), and plenty of cold drinks and treats to reward little strawberry pickers after working in the sun. Cash and cards accepted. Bottled Cherry Cokes prove invaluable in bribing your loved ones to smile for the camera because Hyde Farm has you covered with photo ops. You'd have to try hard yo find a view that isn't picturesque.
When you're ready to leave the farm, don't forget to visit the new-ish butcher shop next door where Hyde Farm sells their own meat. The prices are reasonable, and if knowing where your food comes from is important to you, you might just consider becoming a regular. read more
