A few years ago when I was 16 years old, I came to the bakery to put in an order for my birthday cake. A month prior my dad had passed away from cancer. I had always got my birthday cakes custom from Hyvee and went in as a regularly did. This would be my first birthday without my dad, so of course I wanted to lighten my mood with a silly cake. I'm not the best at social situations and kind of giggled my way through my order as I was a bit nervous. I have something called NVLD (similar to autism), and didn't really think that my giggling or more silly order wouldn't be taken seriously. I said I'd pick it up in a month on my birthday. When it came to my actual birthday, I went to pick up my cake thinking they'd made it. The baker went through orders and said they'd never made it. I was pretty upset but didn't say anything at the time because I'm not one to complain about services often. Looking back, I'm still very upset about this. You never know what someone is going through, or what silent disabilities they may have. Safe to say I don't get my birthday cakes here anymore. read more
