The first time going. Tight I might treat my son after running errands. He is still talking about it a week later! He's very picky...even donuts. We will be back. He had the Cookie Monster donut and I got the Homer which is pink icing and sprinkles. I have to admit it was really good. He tried mine and agreed. I'll take a picture next time! read more

I've been here a few times and was not truly converted until I tried their chocolate donut with white frosting and mini M&Ms....wow! It was so good (the best cake donut ever!) I had to put it down and write this review...I don't know the name of this donut but it's to die for! The donut was one of six I received in the Hurts A Little assorted half dozen for $13...there was a donut with pink frosting and sprinkles, one with white frosting and mini-Reese's, a very chocolate-y looking one, and two others I really have no idea, but which look and I'm sure will taste delicious. The shop is conveniently located by the Coralville public library and a theater. The first time I stopped by I picked up a dozen, including a very good apple pie donut. The dozen came in a super cute box made to look a VHS tape (the box was the reason I bought the dozen, of course). Friendly service and roomy store with seating...parking all around and it wasn't busy last few times I stopped in. read more

Quick and friendly service when I went in to pick up 2 dozen donuts for work. One dozen assortment and one dozen of the glazed. I prefer glazed and it was good. I also tried their warm latte and it was decent. The space was clean. read more

We ordered the Homer donut, chocolate birthday cake donut with chocolate frosting, chocolate cake donut with Andes mint, and a yeast donut with Bavarian cream. The cake donuts are soft. The Homer donut's frosting was cloyingly sweet and I could not tell what flavor it was supposed to be. I wouldn't purposely make a trip for this but it is a good stopping point to pick up a snack while we were on our way to Des Moines, Iowa. read more

Stopped in to grab some donuts for myself and family I am visiting. They have tons of donuts. But apparently this store only caters to gluten free people on the weekend. Which I have never heard of at any of these locations. They also do not carry dairy free frosting. Which I find very strange. The place was empty besides one worker who was messing on their phone. There were several tables that had crumbs all them and were in need of being cleaned. Ended up spending less than I planned. Only got 2 donuts instead of a dozen read more

Who doesn't like a good donut! We ventured to Hurts Donuts twice while visiting Iowa. We had to have some for us to try and then more to take home for our family. I think there was just one that we didn't much care for, naturally I'm sure it was the healthier alternative. LOL Upon approaching the door there was no trash or hazards. The entrance does face the street with parking just to the left. Walking through the door was the whole smell of goodness! The room was open with several tables and chairs. There was a soda machine as well. We got a kick out of the pictures so fun! The donuts are very unique and the display is easy to view with signed that are clearly legible for reading. The full menu is clear and easy to read which offers other products as well, including, but not limited to drinks. And I have to brag about the donut boxes.... showing my age for sure but they really are so cool! They also offer Hurts Donut gear if you feel so inclined to purchase. The service was great both times. Friendly and when asked about their favorite they were quick to say which ones. read more

Slightly below grocery store donut quality, with downtown Chicago type prices. Frosting is too sweet/sugary, dough tastes stale. I've tried a few times thinking I got a bad batch. They have a lot of fun flavors but the actual quality isn't that good. Wouldn't describe the donut as moist, fluffy, etc. slightly chalky almost? Better than gas station donuts but again, right around average grocery store in taste. Solid 6/10, but it's crazy a place that only sells donuts sells these. Edit- I decided to try the other donuts that I had originally wanted to drop off at a customers. Honestly not good, they are pretty but none tasted good. Throwing the box away, 3-4/10, gas station quality. read more

When you live above a donut store it's very hard to not gain 200lbs. Especially a specialty donut shop that packs extra treats & confections & goodies on top. In addition to the visual sensory overload, there's the obvious flavor factor... something for everyone, even if you're not into the exotic, unique, different, extreme donut craze, they have the basics like glaze & apple fritters (also delicious, the Fritter is actually my favorite). They're just not glamorous enough to be on the prime real estate of the front-counter display. And if donuts with icing, cereal, candy, and cookies doesn't fit your fancy, there's milkshakes too! To accompany your donuts, there's also the traditional coffee, milk, and hot cocoa drinks. Water too! Hurry to a Hurts near you! Oh, and the staff is super kind. read more

First time in since I moved here and I ordered 4 donuts- strawberry cheesecake, lemon filling, key lime, & barvarian cream. I enjoyed all but the key lime but at no fault of Hurts Donut- just a personal preference. Service was quick and friendly. The donut cases could have used a good wipe down but it appeared that there was only one person working. The shop was also a little busy so kudos to the young girl holding it down behind the counter that day. I don't eat donuts often but when I'm craving donuts, Hurts Donut will be my go to. Love that they are always open as well, bonus! read more

Ummmm....yum! You can't go wrong picking a donut at Hurts! We tried a little bit of everything, and the donuts were fresh, soft, and the flavors were incredible! Our particular favorites were the key lime and lemon. We really wanted to like the fruity pebbles, but this time around, the cereal was a bit stale -- so I suppose we did go a little wrong there... Overall, we love this place and will be back and bringing friends! read more

Ok, they're not the best donuts, but man, it was fun to read the names! Bigger and definitely a lot heavier than the donut america runs on. It's not just literally heavy but it's heavy on the tummy too! They're a hit with my kids, my husband, and me!!! LOL! These doughnuts are awesome. My boyfriends mother brought some home and wow. I was impressed. I would have had a better shot of all of them but the kids couldn't keep their hands off. Unfortunately, they use pork fat to fry their donuts and in Islam pork is prohibited to eat. The incredible selection of doughnuts brought us in the store, but the doughnuts themselves won't have us coming back. Though you get a bang for your buck-- each doughnut is massive and costs only $2.50- the taste was subpar. The cake part of the doughnut was not crispy on the outside which made me feel like my food was sitting around for a while before I purchased it at 10:30 AM. The toppings are DENSE and filling but unfortunately just too much (I never thought that I'd be saying this). We purchased a chocolate red velvet doughnut and a chocolate peanut butter cup doughnut. If I go back to Hurts it will be to try the gigantic apple turnover, but I'll skip on the doughnuts. read more

Now, please let me first make it clear that my donut standards are very high. I am from Chicagoland where the entire city has a donut festival that I attend every year and have had phenomenal donuts that rock my socks! I stopped by here to pick up some donuts for a customer of mine and it was so cute inside. There is plenty of seating so you can purchase a dozen, sit, and just chow down by yourself or with friends. I picked out the donuts for my customer and then I chose one for myself, Cookie Monster. Raised (yeast) donuts are my favorite so I had to try one. The decorations on each of the donuts couldn't be any better, each one looked so great!! Well, here is the bummer, the donut was kind of dry. I was so disappointed. The flavor was good but not great. The donut overall was a 6.5 mayyyybe a 7. Even though I wasn't blown away, I would like to stop back in to give them another try. I'm certain that there may be another donut in their collection that impress me more. read more

I'm really not sure where the mediocre reviews for the spot are coming from. It brings to mind the line from the PM Dawn song where he must ask "please excuse me for the lack of love." Seriously peeps, this is another high quality addition to the area! After hearing that the prior establishment was not renewing their lease and then learning of the Hurts donut folks coming in, we've been totally stoked. They opened a few weeks ago to a huge line that has continued 4 most days since. Upon entering you're greeted by 24 hours of energetic donut selling. They have no less than 30 different kinds of donuts and these cake beasts are nothing short of amazing. An interesting concept that they employ here is charging less for a dozen that they choose. Its 12 bucks per dozen if they choose them for $15 if you do. These donuts are absolutely massive. We got a couple dozen and tried to sample most of everything that was available and there, in my opinion, was not a bad one. Interestingly, the maple bacon bar was not available with the Dozen, but must be purchased separately. A small price to pay for delicious bacon! Another fan favorite released donuts with chocolate and cereal on top. Few things are more pleasantly reminiscent of childhood than Lucky Charms marshmallows and a donut with said marshmallows delicately resting atop a light sea of chocolate glaze. I'm anxious to return and hear about some of the flavors and why they're named what they are. It just adds to the mystique of a place that is awesome enough to be able to pull off a pink donut called the Homer! Overall, this is another fantastic addition to the culinary experience that has become the Iowa City / Coralville corridor. It is certainly a little bit different than what you're used to, but absolutely in a good way! This is a place you love, your kids will love, your neighbors will love and any visitors to the area will love. Do you want a Hurts donut? Oh heck yes! read more

Hurts Donut - Apparently they have donut milk shakes! - Donuts Near Me - Coralville, Iowa

This place was much hyped, I loved the marketing and branding. Very well done on the business side. These are more of a creation style donut which you don't find everywhere, they are very different with the toppings they use. I got the basic one just to see what it was about without the toppings which is called the old fashioned, very good with a nice dough consistency and flavor to it. I then got the Jesus one, which tasted heavenly if you will. It's a cinnamon/caramel type of deal. Both were very delicious and quite filling so two was more than enough. They have several types of donuts with fun names. Well worth the price since they are pretty well put together with all the toppings, which comes out to be quite the snack. Open 24/7 for now, I would stop by and try a few. Great sweet stuff! read more

I have had Hurts Donut's before and the donuts were good... but guys... their cinnamon rolls (the strawberry cheesecake kind) is out of this world!! There was a perfect ratio or strawberry to dough to frosting. I tried to eat only 1/4 of it ... however it was too good so had to have a whole half... keep in mind this cinnamon roll was as bigger than the palm of my hand so it was ginormous!! I hope they keep offering these occasionally as it will be a "must get"! read more

Donut shop attempt number 2 in Iowa City, first was daylight donuts, which also was not impressive. Hurts is better than daylight as they offer a unique variety, better tasting, and host a better atmosphere. My big gripe with hurts is the price per donut. I don't think this is a high enough quality product where I would feel ok with the price point. Their donuts are creative I'll give them that, but I care more about how they taste than how they look. I can't believe I'm saying this because typically grocery stores don't have the best donuts, but Hyvee has the best in the city read more

If Hurts put as much effort and care into the baking of the donuts as it does into gimmicks and trying to be funny, the quality of the donuts might actually be good. Instead the donuts are dry, flavorless and expensive. We paid $21 for five donuts and donut holes - yikes! Some of the donut designs are pretty cool but the toppings are stale (the fruity pebbles and the cookies on top of our kids donuts were terrible and beyond eatable). Just because they are open 24/7 doesn't mean the donuts should remain in display case all week long, which is pretty much how they taste. Bottom line - bad donuts that are overpriced read more

Hurts Donut - Apple fritter but looked (and tasted) more like dry wheat bread - Donuts Near Me - Coralville, Iowa

Overall Hurts is a great doughnut shop, I enjoy stopping by for an occasional treat. Positives: They have a fun selection of doughnuts that is unlike anywhere else in Iowa City. It's a particularly good place if you want to get something special for someone, impress out of town guests, or just celebrate making it through another week. My favorite doughnut is the Homer when it's available. I also like their cinnamon rolls. Negatives: If you don't like a lot of stuff on your doughnuts, Hurts may not be the best place for you. I tend not to like a lot of toppings, so sometimes I feel my choices are limited. The prices are also a bit high compared to others in the area. I spent over $10 on a cinnamon roll and 2 doughnuts, which is a bit more than I usually spend at other places. However, their doughnuts really are impressive so I think it's worth it from time to time. read more

I enjoyed it but they won't live on in my memory (3.5 stars). read more

Amazing variety of silly and creative donuts and ohhhhh man they were good. I guess varieties change all the time but there was also an *enormous* apple fritter, which was fine but maybe not as soft inside as I would hope for. One of the kinds of coffee was not that great. Blue Nile, I think. It's kind of a cavernous place inside ... almost like a tiny rock club, with kind of bare-bones seating and tables. I'm told it used to be a wine bar that failed due to a too-small kitchen. Maybe this empty "dance floor" is good if there's ever a line for the donuts, or people pondering all the selection. At like 9AM on a regular Thursday it wasn't very busy. There is apparently a wifi network for the shop but I couldn't get it to work. AT&T cell service is nonexistent in there, which is surprising since it's not that big a place, though it is in the bottom of a large office/condo building. read more

I remember the day when I stood in line for 1 hour to get a dozen doughnuts here. I think it was a good decision. Hurts is a pretty cool spot in coralville. It has that "hip" vibe that I miss since moving from the PNW. It's very Voodoo Doughnut-y. For example, cereal on their doughnuts and the maple/bacon. Pretty, pretty please with sprinkles, crumbled Oreos, pink or blue frosting, bacon, candy or maybe a cherry on top... of a donut? That's how my Cora begs-- sort of. She's been spoiled by a Hurts donut or two. My toddler LOVES donuts. The brighter and more unnatural the frosting color, the better. The messier-- THE BETTER. To clarify, I do no appreciate the mess. Shame on you, Hurts Donuts, and your adorably delicious Cookie Monster donut! But I do let her choose it because I adore seeing her at the display case with her brow furrowed, really really concentrating on which is the best, most sticky choice. If it has a high sugar content... it's got Cora's name on it. And if you're a business that is open when the sky wakes up... because why would a child EVER sleep in past six on a Sunday... you're the cherry on top of my weekend! Well done. Trendy and clean. Helpful and friendly. Reasonably priced with LOADS of options. Always open and there for any bribe I may need to offer. My only knocks are; no frills coffee doesn't satisfy my caffeine needs and a drive thru some mornings would be more convenient for this mom of two under three.
