Looking for a gym, a pool, and other healthy amenities?…read more I've had a membership at 3 local gyms, which I won't name, but you know them. The cheap one doesn't have a pool or a shower. The other one has a shower, but there's too much traffic. The big one has a pool and is huge, but costs more than my monthly mortgage. This YMCA is all you need. It has great family rates, a small but decent gym, a pool, and many other amenities that we havent even used yet. This is the best bang for your buck. My son and I go to the gym between 5-6am and there's always plenty of machines and weights available. The front desk staff was friendly in setting us up and they always greet us with a warm welcome when we come in. We've only had the membership for a few weeks, so if something goes south, I'll update this rating, but for now... it's top notch!

One of my friends told me to check this place out, which was only a couple miles away from me. She loved their classes (she did Yoga, Pilates, and some kind of ab class) and thought I'd benefit from their facilities, especially the track. Although the Centre has a membership fee for the machines & classes, I was able to use the track for free since I was a resident (at the time). That was all I needed. I loved it! The track was clean and never too crowded. I don't think a lot of people realized what a gem this place was. I went at different times during the day and enjoyed running quietly by myself or alongside my husband (he came with me a couple times). Lockers are also available next to the track with keys. I also walked around the Centre and saw two nice pools, climbing wall, new & clean machines, and several rooms for classes. The only downside is that the parking garage is kind of narrow and you have to watch out for cars coming around the corner. It's hard to find parking sometimes, but at least the garage is attached to some kind of indoor bridge over the street so you don't have to walk across the street. I also came here once for some kind of green festival and really enjoyed all the displays, booths, taste samples, art, and petting zoo! Many parts of Elgin are really run-down but this is one part of Elgin that shines. If it wasn't for the Centre (and the library nearby), I wouldn't have been complete.

The maintenance staff seems really small still and the building looks completely unkempt, outdated, and dirty. It smells, machines are old and feel scuzzy in the workout rooms. The spare rooms for stretching are fine but the workout schedules seem mostly geared for old people. On the first day, one of the ladies in the office was really hospitable and showed us around. I also got to meet the owner that day, who I had seen out around the community. I was most impressed with the coaches: Nolan, Isaiah, and others. Coach Nolan often stood at the gym door welcoming the students at drop-off and then again at the end of the day with keeping tabs with pick-up. He was always friendly and helpful, often encouraging the kids. They were also detail-oriented in the office, calling the first day to get any remaining forms signed. They also called one day when my son was a little scared after getting a very minimal bloody lip. They just wanted to make me aware, and then they sat with him and encouraged him to keep at it. Pretty impressive that that was the only thing he had when basically doing a 30 hr ninja camp. My son definitely loved the camp. After 6 hours each day, he was drenched in sweat at pick-up and slept hard every night! Thanks for making it a great experience for him and for us! I always felt like he was in good hands.

BUYER BEWARE! Out of all the fitness equipment companies out there, this is one you should…read moreabsolutely avoid. There are far better, more trustworthy options than this shady operation. I found a NordicTrack treadmill listed on their website and placed an order. Shortly after, the owner, Evan Lyons, contacted me claiming the item was mispriced--but assured me he would honor the listed price. I explained that I had already placed an order directly with NordicTrack, but chose his company because it was cheaper, which is common with authorized resellers. He told me he'd coordinate with his NordicTrack rep to confirm the correct part numbers and proceed with the order. Then I received both a call and a text confirming the order was moving forward--and was explicitly told by his "rep" to cancel my direct NordicTrack order. At that point, I had over $50,000 tied up between the two purchases. When I contacted NordicTrack to cancel, I was hit with a 10% cancellation fee plus return freight charges. So now I'm already losing money. And what does this company do next? They suddenly refund my order because they no longer want to honor their commitment or pricing. No accountability, no integrity--just backing out when it no longer suits them. So now I'm left paying the price for their incompetence and dishonesty. Thankfully, I've involved legal counsel to recover my losses. I also have every text message, voicemail, and email documenting this entire situation, which will make the legal process straightforward. This company put themselves in a bad position and instead of doing the right thing, they chose to screw over their customer. That tells you everything you need to know. Do yourself a favor--find a reputable company. And take a very close look at their reviews. Ask yourself how many of them are actually real.

I was ecstatic that they use the level method here since my home gym uses that and I'm familiar it already! The programming was very clear and allowed for enough time to properly warm up, and complete the skill/strength portion of the workout before moving into the WOD. Colin was super encouraging and motivating, while also giving me some coaching on points of performance to improve my movements. I highly recommend reaching out ahead of time and getting signed up online, it was a super easy process! The facility is clean, spacious, and well equipped with all the essentials! I'll definitely be back here next time I'm in town!
