It's a very fun place my friends and I both agree our kids love this place, our kids beg us to come all the time!

Last year, I decided it would be good to start running. I hate running, so I needed somewhere good to go on colder days when I didn't feel like running in the streets. One of my friends told me to check this place out, which was only a couple miles away from me. She loved their classes (she did Yoga, Pilates, and some kind of ab class) and thought I'd benefit from their facilities, especially the track. Although the Centre has a membership fee for the machines & classes, I was able to use the track for free since I was a resident (at the time). That was all I needed. I loved it! The track was clean and never too crowded. I don't think a lot of people realized what a gem this place was. I went at different times during the day and enjoyed running quietly by myself or alongside my husband (he came with me a couple times). Lockers are also available next to the track with keys. I also walked around the Centre and saw two nice pools, climbing wall, new & clean machines, and several rooms for classes. The only downside is that the parking garage is kind of narrow and you have to watch out for cars coming around the corner. It's hard to find parking sometimes, but at least the garage is attached to some kind of indoor bridge over the street so you don't have to walk across the street. I also came here once for some kind of green festival and really enjoyed all the displays, booths, taste samples, art, and petting zoo! Many parts of Elgin are really run-down but this is one part of Elgin that shines. If it wasn't for the Centre (and the library nearby), I wouldn't have been complete. read more

For a community rev center we love this place. As a family our most frequent reason for returning is the indoor pool. Wow, what a pool! Water slides, 3 separate pools, and they offer swim lessons. Lessons run all year round which is great in the cold boring winter months. The staff is friendly and my kids love the teachers. All have been friendly and great with our kids. This facility offers many more amenities aside from the pool such as gym, indoor rock climbing ‍ wall, event rooms, and so much more. Come on in, you will be glad you did. read more

Youth basketball. After hearing good things about the program, we decided to try it. I was not impressed with the coaching or the behavior that was allowed by kids not listening, hogging the ball, refusing to play by the rules. I hate to say it but it was a reflection on kids with lack of parenting and discipline. It was not fair to the other kids on the team. I understand that it's ok to expose your kids to diversity and kids not playing fair all the time, but we were not impressed with this program at all. If kids don't choose to listen to the coach, then they can sit on the bench until they do. This was never instilled, either at practices or during games. read more

As long as I can drag myself to the gym, this place is great! I was a member a few years ago and I remembered thinking it was great, I moved away and now I'm back and became a member again. I just piggy backed onto my mom's plan and was able to pay an unbeatable $15/month for the remainder of her year long membership. That is amazing. I have been a member of large chain gyms and the first time I came by around 6pm I was petrified it would be swarming with 9-5ers who were in the same boat as me just coming to the gym right after work, because they knew they wouldn't get off the couch if they went home first...but I was pleasantly surprised! There were still a few open treadmills and plenty of space for the other equipment. I use the track on a regular basis and it's great. I've never swam or played tennis or basketball or taken any of the classes, but they all seem great as well. I'm glad this little gem is only a mile away from my house! read more

The weight are good, most people are nice and area clean. Need some rules about loud talk, people need to clean up weights and stop all the loud trash talk. You will do good if you have headphones on, as staff does not do rounds. Overall I give the gym a B- for what it offers. Also parking ok in garage. Not to friendly at night though, little creepy. I'm only in Chicago for a short time, but I think what I'll miss most is this amazing gym! Oh, and Jim and Eric at check-in. By far, they are the friendliest greeters I've ever met. Even when I come in dragging my feet at 6:00 AM, they make me laugh, which is a great start to a workout. Ladies, if you want to use weights, but feel intimidated in the men's area, this is the place for you. The Centre has a HUGE area just for ladies, and it doesn't have just a few weights and machines; it has everything you need, even a kickboxing dummy. read more

Good place to swim if you're a swimmer. The pool is clean and the water temperature is always cool. Never gets hot. Also the shallowest end is 5 ft deep so you don't have a lot of kids and non-swimmers around the pool. One thing to be careful of is the locker room. Don't leave your belongings in the lockers !!!!! My locker got broken into and they stole my iphone and credit card while locked. They didn't break the lock but somehow was able to still open the locker. I had to file a police report due to the incident. When i talked to security they mentioned that similar break-in has happened before in the women's locker room. They're in the process of replacing all the lockers with more secure one. Be very careful here. I will only give this place a better review rating once they address their locker room security issue. read more

This is the gym I have a membership at and therefore go to on a regular basis. The staff here is friendly, it is usually never too crowded to get on some kind of machine and they have very nice equipment for the money you pay. They also have an indoor aquatic center with a really nice area for children and also a slide and diving boards. If you live in Elgin and are looking for somewhere to go get your workout on or bring your kids to swim when it is 25 below outside, this is the place to check out. read more

I was a member here for a couple years. Good parking situation and good, if you have kids. If you just want to get in shape i don't recommend it. The are too few fitness machines and free weight benches. Crowded, is how I would describe the cardio and free weights. The indoor water park is good for families though. The parking is in a covered garage with an enclosed passage from garage to club. read more

I love going to the gym every morning. Calvin and Jim start my day off right. I love everything about the centre. You have to check it out!

If you're an ex-athlete who has lost the motivation to work out like myself, The Elgin Centre is the place for you! I am getting back into shape using the fitness classes (this does cost more membership wise) which are varied in type and times offered. I need to be yelled at (in a motivating way)! I can also swim in the lap pool (rarely do I do this but I can if I want to). I also like the basketball courts, but beware on the times you go because so do a bunch of kids and private tournaments (but that is why it is important to have a variety of options). I also do work out in Centercise, a ladies only workout center. I do not play raquetball, but the courts seem in good shape and I also don't use the lockerroom, but when I go in they are clean. All in all, don't give up, give in and get your butt to gym! The Centre is a great option! read more

I visited Sunday for my friend's son's birthday party. It was held in the amazing indoor pool/water park. While I was unimpressed with the amount of life guards for the size of the pool, I was fairly impressed with the facility. From the deck we could see the entry way to the center and glimpse the walking track, leading me to ask how big the Centre is. Apparently huge. We had an hour in the party room just down the stairs next to the climbing wall, and there was pizza, popcorn, pop, and water. Everyone was very happy with the staff and the service. I peaked down the hall and there are multiple conference areas, classrooms, play rooms, ceramics areas. . This place looks awesome! I Definitely want to come back and explore another day. read more

One earlier review claimed that their locker rooms and restrooms were dirty as well as the pool area. I have to sooooo DISAGREE! I've never encountered any of those issues. I really like this facility for all it has to offer and gives us a great senior discount. The only problem I've ever had is the fact that a lot of their monitors on their treadmills and bikes don't always work. Overall, I'd recommend the Centre to anyone! read more

The centre has insufficient parking for weekends. Saturdays you will get stuck behjnd waiters looking for leavers at the designated garage,its horrible.If you have small kids forget it and once I was parked in so I couldn't enter my car on drivers side police don't care unless you park in judges special spaces read more

I have been a member at The Centre for a year and a half now and regret nothing about it. I have two young children who are active in classes, preschool, open swim, KidzWorld (gym daycare), and open gym. I have made a life-changing journey since becoming an active gym-goer at The Centre. Through the support and encouragement of the fitness staff here, I lost the extra baby weight, gained new self-confidence, and started a new career in fitness myself. We are here 5-6 days of the week, and love every moment of it. This is a place to gain community, friendships, and your health. The members themselves are welcoming and love having new people attend classes. The daycare here is filled with wonderful staff members who really get to know your kids. There are different size membership packages for your needs at differing prices. If you are looking for a place to call home, a place to root yourself, a place to grow and learn, The Centre is it. read more

I've been going to the fitness center for about 5 months. They have new machines and clean, we'll lit locker rooms. Everyone is very helpful. Ron "Dr. Sweat" Anderson has been very helpful, showing me how to use the machines and giving me tips on how to get the most from my workouts. Overall, the pool is great and the free running/walking track is a bonus. read more

The gym looks nice but it is filled with the most discourteous (millennial???) crowd I've ever experienced at a gym. Most of the people NEVER put weights away when finished. Seriously, I've seen people just walk away from a deadlift and leave the fully loaded bar laying in the middle of the floor and another moron walked away leaving a bar loaded with 225lbs on the bench press. This is the NORM here. You will also have to deal with the typical low IQ weirdos yelling dumb stuff when they lift as a way to motivate themselves. Oddly, one time a guy just randomly came over and tried to lift a barbell I had set up on the floor for deadlifts when I went to get a drink of water. I don't know, just seems like you're surrounded by mental midgets and potentially disturbed people in this gym. Overall, the equipment is okay but the people you have to deal with make it tough to want to come back. I'll probably find another gym after my membership is up. read more
