I'm a living social deal holder and have two classes remaining before my time at Synergy ends. I…read morewould like to say that I enjoyed my time at Synergy, but due to location (I live in Lisle), I spend more time in my car driving to workout than I spend actually working out. It was fine to switch things up with my current routine and I didn't mind the commute to both the Aurora and St. Charles locations as I knew it would be temporary. I did most of my classes at the Aurora location, but a few in St Charles. The St. Charles location is way bigger, so lots of room to spread out for the circuit. I was hating on this place after my first class - you get your first class for free, and it had nothing to do with the coach, or the place itself, it was me. I get frustrated easily but I told myself to keep going, and as all things do, it will get better with time, and it did. It took about 5 or 6 classes to REALLY get into the 'swing' of things, along with the beginner workshop that was offered to me. It's a shame that I'm finally getting used to it and enjoying it, and my living social deal is about to end. As any group fitness class goes...you will love some of the instructors, and you will hate on some. This goes for school as well, but similar situation in a group fitness class. Among my favorites at this location are Michelle and Heather. They are awesome!!! They provide all kinds of guidance, correct your form, give suggestions, and just overall motivating. They are both assets to this place. I took Heather's classes on Wednesdays in Aurora but this is mainly the location she works at. Michelle conducted the beginner's workshop, and I took her class on a Saturday. While I was impressed by most of the coaches here, I was not impressed by all and I'm sure members feel the same. This is why classes are offered 6 days a week at different times. This is a place to try out - the workout itself is ALWAYS changing, you will never be bored. It IS challenging and you will challenge yourself and feel great afterward.

I really appreciated her telling me about the socks instead of me having to buy them at the studio. She was very helpful. The instructor Taylor L did a great job and asked me about my injuries prior to class. She had excellent accommodations and remember what I told her prior to class. As a former fitness instructor(and someone who used to hire them) she is an excellent instructor. Her explanations were clear, the class flowed well, and she provided multiple options. I also liked the number of participants in the class. Sometimes it feels so crowded but I feel this studio has the right number of participants. If I lived closer I would buy a membership here. I would 100% pay for another class if I'm in town

One of my friends told me to check this place out, which was only a couple miles away from me. She loved their classes (she did Yoga, Pilates, and some kind of ab class) and thought I'd benefit from their facilities, especially the track. Although the Centre has a membership fee for the machines & classes, I was able to use the track for free since I was a resident (at the time). That was all I needed. I loved it! The track was clean and never too crowded. I don't think a lot of people realized what a gem this place was. I went at different times during the day and enjoyed running quietly by myself or alongside my husband (he came with me a couple times). Lockers are also available next to the track with keys. I also walked around the Centre and saw two nice pools, climbing wall, new & clean machines, and several rooms for classes. The only downside is that the parking garage is kind of narrow and you have to watch out for cars coming around the corner. It's hard to find parking sometimes, but at least the garage is attached to some kind of indoor bridge over the street so you don't have to walk across the street. I also came here once for some kind of green festival and really enjoyed all the displays, booths, taste samples, art, and petting zoo! Many parts of Elgin are really run-down but this is one part of Elgin that shines. If it wasn't for the Centre (and the library nearby), I wouldn't have been complete.

Looking for a gym, a pool, and other healthy amenities?…read more I've had a membership at 3 local gyms, which I won't name, but you know them. The cheap one doesn't have a pool or a shower. The other one has a shower, but there's too much traffic. The big one has a pool and is huge, but costs more than my monthly mortgage. This YMCA is all you need. It has great family rates, a small but decent gym, a pool, and many other amenities that we havent even used yet. This is the best bang for your buck. My son and I go to the gym between 5-6am and there's always plenty of machines and weights available. The front desk staff was friendly in setting us up and they always greet us with a warm welcome when we come in. We've only had the membership for a few weeks, so if something goes south, I'll update this rating, but for now... it's top notch!

BUYER BEWARE! Out of all the fitness equipment companies out there, this is one you should…read moreabsolutely avoid. There are far better, more trustworthy options than this shady operation. I found a NordicTrack treadmill listed on their website and placed an order. Shortly after, the owner, Evan Lyons, contacted me claiming the item was mispriced--but assured me he would honor the listed price. I explained that I had already placed an order directly with NordicTrack, but chose his company because it was cheaper, which is common with authorized resellers. He told me he'd coordinate with his NordicTrack rep to confirm the correct part numbers and proceed with the order. Then I received both a call and a text confirming the order was moving forward--and was explicitly told by his "rep" to cancel my direct NordicTrack order. At that point, I had over $50,000 tied up between the two purchases. When I contacted NordicTrack to cancel, I was hit with a 10% cancellation fee plus return freight charges. So now I'm already losing money. And what does this company do next? They suddenly refund my order because they no longer want to honor their commitment or pricing. No accountability, no integrity--just backing out when it no longer suits them. So now I'm left paying the price for their incompetence and dishonesty. Thankfully, I've involved legal counsel to recover my losses. I also have every text message, voicemail, and email documenting this entire situation, which will make the legal process straightforward. This company put themselves in a bad position and instead of doing the right thing, they chose to screw over their customer. That tells you everything you need to know. Do yourself a favor--find a reputable company. And take a very close look at their reviews. Ask yourself how many of them are actually real.
