I scheduled an…read moreappointment for a routine skin cancer/body scan and the removal of two small skin tags, but the physician assistant barely addressed my actual concerns. Instead, he speculated--without any medical basis--that my skin tags were a sign of insulin resistance and prediabetes, despite my recent lab work being completely normal. Things only got worse from there. He claimed I had "30 or more" skin tags on my neck--an absurd exaggeration, considering I actually had maybe three small ones. I can only assume this was so he could bill insurance for an unnecessary procedure. He also insisted that I needed to buy a numbing cream because, if I came back, I wouldn't be able to "withstand the pain" of removing them. It felt like nothing more than a scare tactic to push unnecessary products. On top of that, he asked completely irrelevant and inappropriate questions about my marriage and insurance while going on a tangent about politics. Rather than providing competent medical care, most of the appointment felt like a sales pitch for cosmetic treatments. He even claimed to "treat" celiac disease, which is not something that requires treatment beyond a gluten-free diet. Fast forward--I quickly realized I was not in capable hands and made an appointment with Hawaii Dermatology and Plastic Surgery Center to see an actual board-certified dermatologist. The difference was night and day. My new doctor was precise, professional, and efficient. They completed the body scan, easily removed a few skin tags--without pushing unnecessary numbing creams or upselling treatments--and the experience was everything a medical visit should be. Do yourself a favor--avoid this place and see a real dermatologist.

She identified two of the growths as forms of skin cancer and scheduled me with a physician in the practice - Dr. Todd Bessinger. At the appointment, Dr. Bessinger found the two spots that had received initial treatment and then discovered three additional spots that may become problematic. Dr. Bessinger explained the problems and told me about the process he would employ to remove the growths. He anesthetized the area surrounding each of the spots and then cut them out and cauterized them. The procedures were painless and efficient. Dr. Bessinger was competently assisted by Ashley. The office staff was welcoming and professional and the clinic was sanitized, modern, and comfortable. All in all, a five-star experience - bravo!

Frustrating to get anything scheduled. 1. getting a date/time if you aren't glued to your phone and respond quickly the option is gone and you have to start over. 2. The communication process takes forever since the staff seems to handle several texts at once they don't get back to you right away. 3. No real person available to talk to. I've called and left msgs but nothing, was on hold forever and finally told to leave a msg which wasn't returned until hours later. I wanted something else and he replied, "Get rid of your animals." BH! Saw another Dermatologist after a year putting up with 5FU covered up, washing hands, laundry not to contaminate my animals...and it didn't work at ALL- in fact it spread so now I need surgery. Did NOT return here. There ARE other options for meds and removal of skin cancers you know! Lesions were removed with MOH surgery. Don't recommend this physician, sorry.

From the very beginning, the entire process was handled with incredible care and attention to detail. My pre-op appointment with Kristine was extremely thorough--she carefully reviewed both pre- and post-operative instructions and took the time to answer every question, which made me feel confident and completely prepared well ahead of surgery. Immediately after that visit, Laura emailed me everything we discussed in clear, detailed written form: pre- and post-op instructions, prescriptions to pick up in advance, check-in times, and all logistical details. There was truly no room for confusion. I felt fully prepared weeks before my procedure even took place. On the day of surgery, the care continued to be outstanding. Ana and Char made me feel calm and comfortable from the moment I arrived--everything from letting me choose my music in the operating room to making sure I was warm and at ease. In recovery, my PACU nurse, Tricia, was wonderful. She ensured I was comfortable, monitored my vitals closely, confirmed transportation details, and made the entire recovery process feel smooth and reassuring. Dr. Ching was exceptional throughout the experience. He checked in with me beforehand, answered all of my questions, and during the procedure itself--done under local anesthesia--he calmly walked me through each step and made sure I was comfortable the entire time. Today is my first day post-procedure, and I feel completely fine. I didn't even need to take any of the prescribed pain medication. As someone who had never had surgery before, I couldn't have asked for a better experience. From start to finish, the care was truly top-of-the-line.
