For our anniversary, my wife & I went for an evening meal at Huntingtower Hotel. As an aperitif to the scrumptious meal, I would like to extol the virtues of the wonderful, prompt & friendly staff. For my start, I ordered the mussels in thyme butter, both delightful & understated, ( as an alternative to my usual spicy creations) with a delicate aftertaste. My wife chose the mushroom risotto, again a warming, flavoursome starter with just enough to whet the appetite.
For the main, I chose the venison, with wilted greens, the smallest pillow of daupginause potatoes, with just the merest hint of a tangy jus. The venison was medium rare with just a hint of the raw element. My wife decided on the lamb, it was moist, soft & tender. As I recall it was also served with wilted greens & mash. We cannot thank the chefs enough, and six stars seems too measley a high score to award, but rest assured they are well deserved.
The wine list is varied with enough to please even the most discerning pallette. The hotel is well presented, with that homely feel, yet modern & fresh. A walk through the beautiful well kept grounds & we were ready to head home. We both look forward to our next visit. read more
