They sell soju here which is a huge plus for me, it's the only reason I come here over Hollywood Liquors on Tremont. They also have a bunch of other stuff, the place is huge so they have a nice variety and a great selection. Great location basically on Northeastern's campus so it's very convenient and accessible via the green line, 39 bus, and of course walking. The downside is that they're a bit pricey... $10 for a bottle of soju hurts my soul but I have no other options nearby. I'm sure they know that too and that's why they can jack up the price so much. Really enjoy the selection here. They are always stocked up with 30s and have a wide range of beers and liquor. They carry many low and mid-priced wines, but not many pricey ones. On Thursdays they have wine tastings in the evenings which are worth checking out. The owner is very knowledgeable if you catch him during the day and can make some really good recommendations. If you want something they don't carry, just let one of the managers know and they will order it for you. It's a bit pricey though (inflation for location next to a college). Make sure you come in with two forms of ID as they will often ask for backup. read more

I used to really like this place, They have some good close-out specials on wine, often good beer for 6'bucks a 6pack, it's close to where I work, and not far from where I live, so I USED TO go there once or twice a week.. BUT NOT ANYMORE.... The other night I went to pick up some boozes for a friends B-day party (while one my lunch break at work which I was taking at 6pm...) Got a bottle of wine and a 6 pack, and got to the register with my ID already in hand for the cashier. I've got an NH ID and the cashier wants more.. I pull a a few other things out and the cashier still says no... ok... "Do you have a scanner" I ask... "no he says, but I know your ID is real"... "well I do come in here a pretty often" I say... "I've never seen you" he says... then pulls my stuff off the counter and yells "next customer" I'm in my mid 20's and nobody has ever pulled this with me before so I look at him and say "hey..come on" Then this guy is all like "your wasting my time, please leave....." So I say ok If your going to pull that, I'm not ever coming back..... So fast forward to my checkout at the next liquor store, I go to checkout, and oh.... where is my ID?????????? So I have to go back to Huntington..... because MR. IMALIQUORSTORECASHIER ANDIVEGOT MOREPOWERTHANYOU took my ID :( The guy is gone and the people at the counter tell me my ID is not there.... hmmmm.... I find him in the store, he's helping some customers find stuff, and ignores me..booooo. Here is where things cross the line.... I don't get this place. The wine section is clean and well organized. The beer section is a complete mess. It's like two separate stores. The beer selection is decent but it looks TERRIBLE. There are signs all over the place, dirty and non working neons and the cooler doors are gross. Just a tip, you might want to wash the cooler windows once and a while. I was looking for a cold 30 pack and after searching around I came into the back room where I was greeted with yet another sign welcoming me to their famous beer cooler. Famous?!? I opened the cooler door and every square inch of this cooler was covered in signs. A visual nightmare. I grabbed my 30 pack, paid and left. I would have given this place 5 stars but the place is so gross. Ok, maybe I have a bias here as I know the staff rather well ... but hey, people are giving this place 1 star which I think is a bit drastic, so 5 stars it is. The prices are a little high, but just look at the location and it'll make sense. It's the only liqour store in the immediate area and it's right next to Northeastern. Liqourland is bigger/cheaper/has a better selection, but it's also 5-6 blocks away in a much more ghetto location. Prices aren't much better in the Mission Hill area. I'm not sure why someone complained about the beer selection, they have your standard domestics as well as quite a few microbrews and imports. They are very tough on IDs, but given the number of colleges nearby it makes sense. read more

I called this morning to have champagne delivered to a nearby hotel. The owner, Steve, took my call and could not have been more courteous. Not only did he help me decide on a champagne, he added a note card and delivered it himself. It is very rare these days to have such wonderful service. Honestly I have been shopping here for 2 years almost exclusively because I live in the area. My issue is with this one girl on the staff. She always makes a huge show out of checking my ID (i'm 23 and I know she has helped me multiple times). Not only does she ask me for backup every time, but she scans it as well. I wouldn't mind if she treated everyone else like this, but she doesn't and quite honestly it's rude. This place only gets two stars from me. Why's that? Oh yeah, it's because the selection is total crap. They have a good amount of wines as I walked in, and I went straight back to the chilled champagnes, because that's how I like to roll sometimes, and there were like FIVE CHOICES! That's really sad. I checked the warm bottles, and the selection wasn't really much better. It was either really cheap champagne (which don't get me wrong, I like it, but there's a time and a place for everything) or really good bottles. However, when you get to the register armed with your supplies for a night of fun, don't be surprised if you balk at the price! You do pay alot more for the convienence. Used to frequent this place (*liver makes sad face*). They have a helpful staff who have special ordered beers and liquors for me. They even call you to tell you when your order is in (no extra charges). Prices are high but so is their rent, so it's understandable. The best thing about them is the tastings every Thursday. Wine, beer, or liquor. They are always giving samples and sometimes very knowledgable reps are there. They are very strict about IDs, I have an NH license and always bring a backup photo ID. I can't believe why anyone would complain about their policies, it is not worth it to them to sell to you if they are going to be fined or lose their license. read more

Very good selection, especially for a place so close to a large university and other smaller schools (considering this is Boston and finding liquor stores near campuses can be challenging). I am not a beer girl. I can't say one way or the other how their beer selection is. But it seems there are enough reviews of that on here already. I can review their wine selection, as I have purchased many a bottle from Huntington Wine and Spirits. The wine selection is small, but well organized. Wines are divided by type and region, making very easy to find a favorite or try something new. (However, they did lose a star because the old setup was even better...for me.) Most of my favorite wines, they stock...that's not to say I haven't gotten a bottle that has totally disagreed with me, but you can't win everytime. And you'll never taste champage if all you drink is Tang. =o) If a wine is not in stock, the staff has offered to order it for me (and not by the case, I can get as few as one bottle.) However, if you find a wine you love, you should order a case (that's anywhere, not just at Huntington) because when you return it probably won't be there. But there's a discount for 6 bottles, which usually leaves me getting one or more bottles for free. The staff has always been friendly with me, and ready to help suggest a liquor for whatever the occasion. read more

I was going to party this weekend around the fenway Northeastern area and I thought I would pick up a cheap 30 rack to be nice. UNfortunately, there is no such word in this place. A 30 rack of BUD LIGHT beer cost me nearly 25 dollars! (the total was 24.57). I have NEVER paid that much in my life for Pabst. But that is pretty on par with everything else thay have there. So I have been coming here for a bit. I live in the area. Last night the employees were so rude you could hardly imagine. I was shocked. My boyfriend and I went there to see if we could get wine. When we arrived at the door, I looked at my phone and realized it was one minute to 11 pm when the close. We were surprised it was that late (just came from eating at the cheesecake factory) and stood there in front of door for a couple seconds. An employee with bright pink shirt, overweight, tattoo on foot, saw us and opened door. She said and I quote "You coming in?" Didn't give my boyfriend a chance to respond before she said, "You have literally 15 seconds to come in here and get out. So hurry up." She spoke like she was super pissed off, and we hadn't even said anything. My boyfriend and I were confused because she was saying we could come in, but she was being mad rude and obviously there wasn't much time. We went in feeling really uncomfortable and I just said to my bf, we don't need to get anything right now. All the employees were standing around watching us like we were criminals. My boyfriend and I preceded to leave. THe rude woman at the door was like "Oh your leaving now?" And I said "Thanks for being so nice" sarcastically and she said "ITs state law that we close right away." And I mean she said this SOOO rudely. It sounded like she was a cop or something who was talking to criminals. Oh, and my boyfriends black by the way, so yeah why don't I play the race card here simply because its entirely possible that this woman was making assumptions based off of his skin color. What she could have done: We are closing in 15 seconds, to which we would have responded by leaving. That simple. We are nice respectable people. I work for the state and my boyfriend goes to school. And this woman.... Well there was no excuse for her behavior. BASICALLY, she invited us in so she could be angry about it. She was SELF SERVING her own already existing frustrations. Huntington Wine and Spirits is definitley THE place to go in the Northeastern/Symphony area. They are convenient and you don't have to take your life in your hands by having to go over to Roxbury for your booze. They just renovated the wine area and it seems like they are going for a more "boutique" type of set up and it looks pretty good. The beer selection has grown alot in the last year or so. They have brought in alot of micro-brews and imported beers. I went to one of their beer tastings and sampled over 20 different "craft" beers, whatever they are. They also have the standard domestics in all sizes up to beer balls. The liquor is all behind the counter and it looks like they have a big selection. If you go in on a Thursday, Friday or Saturday night, you will probably find a free tasting of some sort , usually wine, beer or liquor. Actually, what else is there. If you buy some of the product they are trying, you can get some pretty cool free swag. All in all, HWS is right up there as far as Boston Liquor Stores go. Check 'em out.......... read more

I am consistently amazed at not only their selection but that they always discount 20% off of six bottles. I price shop often and have always found their prices competetive with Boston and Framingham. If you like wine and great pricing you will do yourself a favor to stop by and shop. Huntington Wine and Spirits is primarily a NEU beer store. Its bread and butter is selling 24-paks of National, Bud Light, etc., and maybe some Captain Morgan's to NEU fratboys and the like. Not a discriminating crowd. Lots of 'flavored' vodkas for the Tri-Delts. Be advised they card extremely carefully. They do have a good selection of imported premium and domestic 'craft' microbrews. However these tend to be on the pricey side. Occasionally they'll get some remainders from craft brewers and sell them cheap. These are a crap shoot: sometimes they're good, and sometimes there's a reason why the brewer wanted to dump them. Both the hard stuff and the wine are on the pricey side. The wine collection runs to low-mid level stuff: boxed wines, lots of Pinot Grigio, White Zinfandel, Chardonnay. Not a place to go if you're jonesing for a '99 La Tache, but there's some decent stuff if you look. read more

Tried to get a bottle of champagne but couldn't find my selection of choice. Asked the cashier with the Budweiser hoody twice for help. He wouldn't budge and offered me vague directions. After finally finding it under lock and key I again asked for service. My companion overheard the gentleman say psst I dnt feel like walking. The second worker said I'd have to wait until they could unlock it. I waited even longer then decided to leave disgusted. I can't help but feel there was an underlying motivation for my lack of respect and courtesy. As a student at Northeastern University, I have entered this store many times. The owner especially helped me select what I would like for the end of the year party I was throwing. He is extremely knowledgeable and made sure that I was getting good quality liquor for the money I wanted to spend. He introduced me to a couple of his employees and they were all very friendly and professional. A lot of my friends told me to go to this store because the owner is great and the selection is huge. Pretty good selection. They had my gluten-free beer every time I went in there. Gave me the stink eye the first couple times I came in while checking my ID. Don't count on any advice from the people behind the counter, they'll give you the same frat boy advice you get on campus. read more
