As an adult learner, Huntington Learning Center (HLC) may not be the first choice that comes to mind. However for me, it proved to be time well worth spent. I was determined to enter a competitive associates degree program at a local community college. I already had a BFA, and had assumed my college English classes would have counted towards my prerequisites. I was wrong. With no time to add a class, my only alternative was to take a Writing Composition CLEP Exam to attempt to test out of the class. I was pretty apprehensive about taken this exam. Composition is not really my strong suit, and it had been ages since taking my last English class. At this point, I decided to get tutoring at HLC. I meet with a tutor at HLC in Elmhurst on three separate occasions. Each session lasted two hours. The one on one attention was fantastic! The instruction I received was top shelf. The practice worksheets that were provided, along with writing assignments, for homework were invaluable. I'm so glad that I decided to go HLC in Elmhurst. I did pass my CLEP exam and without HLC's help I'm honestly not sure that I would have done. The facility it's self very clean and comfortable and provided a excellent environment for learning. We have had two children go through different programs at Huntington, both with very positive results. Our second to go through responded especially well to the coaching and instruction provided: he went from a practice ACT test score of 18 the summer before his junior year all the way to a 27 when he took the actual ACT in Dec the same year. He improved in all subject areas and developed a greater confidence in his test-taking skills that has crossed over into his high school results as well. The staff was very attentive for both boys that went through their programs and kept us well-informed of their progress during their enrollment. They even followed up weeks after the instruction ended to see how they fared and if any additional help was needed. Huntington in Elmhurst has been great for my kids. My two oldest boys are "average" students, and were getting left in the dust at school. Both can do well if someone pushes them, but if the bare minimum is fine.. that is what they will do. I didn't want them to form bad habits of turning in sloppy, low effort work, even though that work was resulting in As and Bs because it was "good enough." Huntington taught them good study havits and got them in the habit of working neatly and trying hard to produce excellent work. Both are getting straight As and doing fantastic work now. My daughter also goes. She is in REACH LA but didn't make it for math. She is learning critical math schools that the elementary school is skipping over. It has been very beneficial for my already hard working daughter. She is doing great. Huntington is worth it! read more

Thanks to the support, encouragement, and great instruction from the Huntington Elmhurst teachers and staff, our daughter scored a 34 on her ACT! After being stuck at 30 on her ACT practice tests for a few months, the teachers fine-tuned her instruction to maximize her score. The teachers were never discouraged by her lack of progress on her practice tests; they kept working with her and motivating her to achieve her full potential. She ended up scoring a perfect 36 in Science, formerly one of her weakest subjects. The teachers really took the time to evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of each individual, and they developed the best tailor-made plan for each student. We couldn't be happier. We will be bringing all our children to Huntington Elmhurst for standardized test prep. read more

We are quite happy with how Huntington helped our daughter overcome test anxiety. She is a smart girl with plenty of potential and just needed some expert tips for test taking. The results are a confident student who can see her own potential! Her first official ACT score came back with a 6 point overall increase. This is definitely meaningful in the search for a good university. And, as important as these scores can be, what is most satisfying is that after three months of going to Huntington for two hours twice a week, we are pleased to say that our daughter has found these sessions also quite helpful in her everyday schoolwork. Homework was a struggle for our child and his test scores at school needed to improve. We found Huntington and put together a plan. After several weeks of working within their program, I can definitely say there is a big improvement. Our son now works independently on his homework, his grades are picking up, and he has learned important study habits. Their program customizes a learning plan for each individual child and we were able to focus on areas that he needed specifically - phonics, following instructions, finding the main idea. It's been a lot of hard work for our son, but he has more confidence in his own abilities now and we recommend Huntington to anyone who finds their child struggling with school work. We enrolled our daughter in Huntington the summer after she finished first grade and was below grade level. She was struggling with all aspects of reading and was very frustrated when we tried to help her with it at home. The Huntington instructors knew how to teach to her specific needs, and they also knew how to approach her as a unique person. We kept her in the program for about a year and a half - cutting back on the frequency of her sessions after she caught up to grade level in second grade. Huntington has made a world of difference for my child. They develop a specific learning plan that is geared towards your child's strengths and weaknesses. My child was struggling and getting frustrated with school. His confidence was starting to plunge. We tried tutors over the summer with little success. My 5 Year old daughter struggled with reading. She hated school and every night was a battle. We tried The Huntington in Elmhurst. We enrolled her in private tutoring. We took her two times a week for over a year. It made a huge difference in our daughters life. She is now 8 years old. She enjoys school and has the confidence to raise her hand. We recently used Huntington to prepare our child for the SSAT (entrance exam for private high school) test. They specifically targeted areas that needed work and outlined strategies for how to answer questions in order to achieve the highest score. We were absolutely delighted with the scores. This is an amazing place that makes my son enjoy reading. We started at Huntington two years ago and my almost 8th grader was reading at a first grade level. Nothing was working. I enrolled both of my high school age sons in Huntington ACT prep classes (at 2 different times). Both of them went up 6 points from the high school practice test to the actual ACT. Our son took the ACT prep course. Our experience was beyond what we ever expected. He took the first practice test and received a score of 22. He took the test three times with a slight increase on the second test. With the help of the instructors and his hard work the third time was a charm, he scored a 31! My son did a "cram" session with Huntington before his second ACT test. He only had a week to prepare. He went to 2 2 hour sessions a day the days before the test. His score went from a 29 to a 34. We couldn't be happier with the result. Cramming may not work for everyone, but it sure worked for my son. His twin sister starts her sessions soon. She has more time to prepare.
