When I found the $299.00 deal on the web, it sounded a bit too good to be true. I called the ranch and questioned Matt, the son, about the ranch and the reviews I had read on the web. He was gracious and straightforward. He told me that the ranch had thousands of hunters per year and the few negative reviews shouldn't turn us away. He asked that we show up with good attitudes and promised us a great time and good hunting, so we purchased the 3-day hunt. Our party of five just returned from our trip to Hunting Texas Hogs, and we had an awesome time. After thirty-five hours in the truck driving from Washington State, we were welcomed at the front gate at 3:00pm. We paid our $100.00 guide fee, dropped off our 100lb of feed per hunter and were given our cabin assignment. There were three bunk beds and an air-conditioner in a small cabin. We unloaded our gear and headed to the mess hall for the orientation. Then we were served a delicious dinner of wild boar and gravy over rice with green beans. Then off to our hunting stands for the night hunt. The stands are comfortable and the first night my son and I enjoyed watching the exotics eat the feed the ranch hand had placed along the edge of a small pond by our stand. Some people in earlier reviews complained about this, but I think it helped pass the time until the pigs showed up. We even got to see a water buffalo frolic, which is quite a sight. We missed two shots at smaller pigs the first night. The next morning, we went to the same blind and didn't see any pigs, but Texas mornings are very nice and again the exotics were enjoyable to watch. After breakfast, we all decided to pay the $50.00 to go to the "Honey Hole" after many other guests encouraged us. It was the best $50.00 I ever spent. We walked to a table in the corner of the ranch and sat for about 30 minutes. Then we began seeing pigs. We saw dozens of pigs running around and our group of five took six animals. After lunch, we went back and took three more. That evening after dinner, my son and I went to a blind very close to the "Honey Hole" and took a 235lb pig just before dark. Our ten pigs weighed between 160-235lbs. After such an awesome day, we slept in the next morning and didn't hunt. The last morning, we settled up our tab and got back in the truck for the thirty-five hour haul back to Washington. Most of the way, we talked about how we were going to get back to the ranch to hunt again, minus the drive though. I think we will fly next time. Our entire group really enjoyed our time at the ranch. The food was tasty and the people were friendly. Don't be discouraged by the negative reviews. Every business has to deal with negative people. It just seems as though only the negative ones have posted anything about this ranch. Just show up with a good attitude and you'll enjoy this hunt. read more

On a small plot such as this, hunters should really be in treestands shooting down, not in chairs shooting up. With a little safety consideration and refitting this place could work, they are loaded with hogs, but don't care to be shot at. read more

They should really call this place a petting zoo. The exotics don't move at the sound of gun fire. Put your hand out and they come right up to it thinking you have corn. I think there is false advertising here. "Over-run with wild hogs please help". They're not wild, they are trapped and sold to the ranch, penned during the day, and let out at night. I did the 3 day hunting package @ $340.00. That seemed like a very good price, considering similar ranches in the area cost more. What gets me here is the $100 "guide fee to be paid in cash" in the beginning. What the hell is that for? I mean I understand these are nocturnal animals and everything, but geeze, my guide was no where to be found after the first day I got there. Pointed me in the general direction and said walk that way. The next thing that is a joke is the feed you have to pay for to "bait" the pigs, what a complete bunch of crap that is. You go out to your blind around 6:30 pm, and watch the bait truck (a woman in the bed laying it down as the truck drives along at 20mph) and right behind the pickup truck were 4 elk eating it. Later on that evening I saw a bunch of exotic animals come and eat the trail of bait, the waterbuffalo, sable, more elk, and their cattle. Your feed isn't to bait the pigs, its to feed the exotics. Do yourself a favor and spend 10k to shoot a waterbuffalo in Africa. The final thing that really pissed me off is the "honey hole" and the additional cost of $50 to go into that area. The honey hole is the only area from the time of 8am- 7pm with pigs on it. It contains a lot of shade, a watering hole, and lots of natural growth. All the animals can be found there during the day. So if you bother to do this hunt again, spend the extra $50 and go to the honey hole. I had 1 opportunity the whole 3 days I was there outside of the honey hole, a shot at 9:15pm (pitch black only illuminated with a green light) at a piglet from 136 yards away. I missed. By no means was the staff friendly. read more

My family and I hunt here every March during Spring Break. We have been 5 times. I'm 80, my son is 50 and my Grandsons are in their late teens and 20's. We never fail to get hogs. Since we have military backgrounds we are very involved with weapons safety. I'm satisfied this is a safe environment, although some of the "hunters" are quite foolish. The food is good, the prices fair, accommodations OK and the people are nice. We're already scheduled in for next year. read more

Hi , This is my first time doing a review . We really enjoyed the time I sent at the ranch .This was new to me ,and my daughter ,this was really different . I knew that I would never be able to go ,Africa ,Alaska or any exotic hunt . And getting close to retiring , I better try something with in my budget . And my son entered me in for a drawing for a hunt on the ranch . WOW I got picked ,and I wanted my son to go with me .We booked a hunt ,got ready , and read the F.A.Q 's on the web site ,practicing at the range . When it was time to go my son could not .I tried to get my wife to ,not willing ,so I asked my daughter , she was super excited . On the way to my daughters ,my truck spring a leak in the heater core . we drive to Texas in a Honda civic coupe ,with no cruise control .What a drive ,but we made it . Arriving at the ranch we were excited , taking pictures ,and talking with other hunters waiting to get check in .Before we arrived ,a hunter shot a 600# plus super hog .Because he flew to Texas , he was unable to take all the meat home , so I bought a tot of meat from him . Not sure of how well our hunt would be , we would go home with something . Our second day , our first hunt after breakfast , Matt put us in the honey hole , I wanted my daughter to have first chance at a hog , about 45 minutes on watch a monster well over 300 # hog came by , daughter could not get a good bead on the hog ,and it got by , Matt wanted the hunters to do head shots ,and that O.K. with us. The second hog was a nice one ,but the same thing no good shot . not to long a third big hog came by ,no shot for my daughter ,she give me the O.K. to shot . The hog was moving right a long ,and I shot it high shoulder ,and down it went , I put one in its head to finish it , A 190# boar ,with 2" tusks .( after I wished that I did not shot it the head , it ruined doing a euro mount . )After lunch we went back to the honey hole , and saw several hogs before my daughter shot a 255# sow in the neck at 90 yards . I am so happy she got one . I had the skinner bone out our meat to save space and weight . We used tots ,lined with space blankets , wrapped the meat in plastic , the ranch froze it for us ,got it back to N.Y. no problem . We had a super time at the ranch , The staff was great .WE ENJOYED IT SO MUCH , THAT I BOOKED A SECOND HUNT! This time I talked my wife into going . This time we drive a Subaru Forester , I think the Honda had more leg room . Again real excited to got to the ranch . this time ,I was not as worried ,I know what to expect .After check in ,and dinner ,we went to the corral blind . As we walked into the area my wife stopped to look at a baby horse , and I was interested in getting some elk pictures , a nice bull elk . My wife said pig ,not paying attention to her , the third time she said pig ,then I hear her , Earlier the Ranch Boss said that the hogs over 300# would cost more to shot , I said to my wife I think it is to big , and she told is would pay the difference , I put a shell in the gun a ran as fast I could the get up to the blind so I would be shooting the right way , safety first , got him first shot ,in the neck . I am amazed how fast they can ran on their short legs .So for me I got a 215 # boar 200 yard from the lodge ,less than 10 minutes into our hunt .The next morning after breakfast , we did the walk and stalk . That was really fun , We spread out walking in the bush ,thinking we would find hogs , in the shade ,no luck .On our second past ,we moved to the weed fields , jumped hogs right off . I told my wife ,that we will need to be quick on the trigger , the hogs would wait until you got able 15 ft. from them ,and jump up and run ,shortly after that I jumped a hog ,and shot it about 20 yards .It was a 60 # . I got my wife set up to make a push into some weeds , I went to the side about 75 yards . I see that she was not moving , she texts me ,saying that it sounds like a cat growling into weeds , worried that it was a bobcat , or cougar , I said back up , be ready to shot ,I am coming over just in case ,it was a cat , before I could get to her ,she shot , and shouted hog . She point ahead in the weeds so I worked around to come in from the side ,5 yards in a big hog ran by me at about 10 Ft. , I did not shot , she shouted the one she shot was down ,as I got closer ,I could see the weeds moving ,4 or 5 piglets ,I slowly pushed them to her and she shot a second one , so she got two piglets , and that was before lunch . After lunch , Matt told my to take my wife into the honey hole , we set up near a small pond , I told my wife to watch up wind , about 45 minutes ,she got 190# boar. WE HAD A GREAT TIME AGAIN . AND WE WILL BE BACK WHEN WE CAN . SUPER FUN . The hogs are wild and they do not get penned up a night. I almost forgot that darn water buffalo put me up a tree ,he got to close to me ,I did not want to dance with him LOL. Ran out of space . TWO HUNTS ALMOST 800# OF MEAT live weight ! read more

First off. Pack a lunch and a grill. Food absolutely sucked. Cheap lunch meat for lunch. Bake potato for dinner. Powdered eggs and grits for breakfast. Not a lot of it either. Ranch Boss Paul actually lectured new cook (nicely) about using a serving spoon for eggs and the next day she had a tablespoon for serving. Best way to describe food and lodging is CHEAP bare bones minimum. BTW community bath/showers and only had with 1 working light bulb. Now as for the staff. Cooking girls very pleasant and 1 girl skinning very friendly. Ranch Boss is a business man and only interested in volume. Get you in and out and make as much money as he can as fast as he can. They want you to leave an additional $50 per hunter for a tip. Bull! We tipped the ppl we wanted to. Hog Hunting. That depends. First and foremost this is a petting zoo. Paul has tons of exotics that he shows off the first night. He will put you in a top side blind the first night at 7pm. At 8 a truck drives by dropping feed out the back and dinner is served. For everything but the hogs. I felt like Noah. 2 horses, 8 sika deer, cows and Black Bucks. The next morning you hunt the same stand which was right on the highway. We didn't even bother returning. After that "fine" breakfast you have 2 ways to go, either "the 12 mile walk" or the honey hole. We prepaid the for the honey hole so i can not personally comment on the walk but I was told it was a waste of time. Honey hole however was a 45 minute bundle of excitement. My son took a nice sow #315 running, No hog is stopped, bring your A game I had a shot on a big one but hesitated and missed my opportunity along with the other in my party. At the time I thought there would be another chance.... Wrong! Afternoon we didn't see a hog or hear a shot in the honey hole. We believe but cannot prove that Boss Hog Paul buys pigs and stocks on Thursday because the group that arrived Thursday killed at least 30 hogs in 1 day at the honey hole. That was verified. We arrived Friday and by Saturday the Friday day hunters cleaned them out. That is why I say hog hunting depends. If he stocks them the day you arrive I imaging you will have your share of killing hogs. We didn't. He also puts out some massive near death hogs that can barely walk. A party of 3 played rock-paper-scissors to determine which hunter was going to get the kill and the $1200 bill. One other thing I need to mention is that Boss Hog Paul while checking another hunter out and settling up his final bill was not going to let the guy leave until he came up with $2 more. Owed $155 but only had $153. They do not take checks or credit cards. My friend donated the $2 and the man was free to go. That said a lot to me and was a clincher that I was going review this hunt honestly. As for full disclosure there were returning customers present and I have no idea what Boss Hog Paul's overhead is so I don't know what financial pressures he is under. I feel like this is a corporate scam worse than the chicken industry. They get some guy with money, give them some land and a market plan and mortgage his life forever. The property is small, guessing 300 acres and with 30 or 35 hunters it is very tight hunting. It may be why they treated like we kids when it came to view of fire. Pointing out where we can shoot and where we can't about a 45 degree view. Bottom line.. If you are looking for bare bones minimum accommodation and a caged stocked hunt AND you schedule a Thursday arrival I think you will be happy... We won't be back. read more

One-star is even an exaggeration. Booked the 3-day hunting trip- upon reading the website and watching the associated videos on the site, my group and I were amped. We made the drive to Gonzales and pulled into the ranch- it was gated with a high fence- upon the drive from the gate to the lodge, we saw many exotic animals grazing and generally unfazed by our vehicle- this would be a tale-tale sign of things to come. The first night we were set up in a blind; around the blind the ranch hands laid out our corn; corn we thought to bait the pigs in- within minutes our blind was surrounded by 15-20 exotics- just grazing and unfazed by our presence. The ranch advertised being "overran" with wild pigs- if anything this place is overran with domesticated exotics. The next day, our guide- whom we paid a $100 cash only guide fee to, simply said to "walk that way" and sent us on our way as we covered the ranch with little incident. The few pigs we saw were in an area which we were not allowed to go in, unless we paid an additional $50 to visit the honey hole. This place is a cross between a petting zoo and a shooting range. Save your money- don't find out the hard way like we did- the only positive was the apple dumplings at dinner the first night. Scam. read more

This was my first time hunting wild pigs so I wanted to go with someone reputable. Ranch Boss Paul and his crew are first rate. Although they offer other hunts for other game including exotics I was there to hunt hogs. They were helpful with everything from setting up my RV in camp to everything involved with the hunt. I did choose to hunt the honey hole for an extra $50 simply because the bottomland area is home to the largest population of hogs. I saw herds of 30, 40, to 50 or more. I also saw some incredibly large boars. The day I hunted there were 3 hogs over 400 lbs taken, including an enormous 505 pounder! I was hunting with a handgun and was surprised at how tough these animals are to bring down and I have hunted black bear. I harvested a very nice sow for my first and was impressed at how quickly Paul arrived with help when I called to retrieve my pig. The pig was butchered and on ice within 90 minutes of the harvest including allowing me to take some pictures. The entire ranch is a quality outfit from the lodge, bunkhouses & cabins, to the in house butchering area. The entire staff was very friendly to both me and my wife. There is always someone there to help or answer your questions. I certainly do plan on returning next year. read more
