We stopped here en route to St Louis as it was only a 10 min turnoff from the interstate. Go down a…read morelovely road, surrounded by trees which reminded me of Tuscany (except these aren't poplar trees) and you come to a collection of buildings on the right. So driving up, it was immediately apparent there was no grapevines in the surrounding fields!!!! Puzzled over this, we asked at the wine rating table (limit of 4 tastings in a plastic cup which you have to reuse) and found out they lost their harvest a couple years back and since then the grapes are grown in other locations and then the wine is made by them with the purchased grapes. Of the 4 I tasted, my preference was for the semi-dry whites with the Edelweiss and the Apple being favorites. I did not care for the fruit ones - found them musty and with a slightly sour aftertaste. To get the food, you order inside, are given a number, have to grab plates and utensils from a back table and the find a seat. We decide to sit on the back porch where the strains of the live band reached our table but not so loud that we couldn't talk. Food wise, our party of 3 split Grilled chicken salad (half-size @ $5) and veggie pizza (large @$17) and rather than paying $4 per glass of Seyval Blanc, just got the bottle for $17. Surprised to note we got charged $1 for glass of water but hey it would be €8 for half a liter bottle in EU so this was way better! Anyway salad was decent as was the think crust veggie pizza. Our crust edge was TOTALLY burnt, which I was disappointed at. Decent food and fun way to while away the time if you are in the area. Note: #293 of Yelp 100 challenge for 2016

There is a large indoor area and a huge back patio partly covered/partly uncovered overlooking a small pond that provides a nice lively but pretty setting in which to enjoy your wine. The parking lot is right out front. They allow you to bring in food and do permit dogs on-leash. When we entered, we saw lots of rather typical wine merchandise to buy. We were hoping to have wine flights outside on the patio, but they only do flights inside at the walk-up bar. Instead, we had a couple of small tastes and picked a bottle of wine to bring out back on the patio. There was a live band performing which was nice. Lots of seating and an energetic vibe. We enjoyed our wine as well. You have the option to either keep your wine glasses as a souvenir or return them to get your deposit back.

Small boutique with wine related signs, shirts, coasters, glasses. When we went there was live music and lots of energy for the solar eclipse. Wines we had were delicious and everyone found something to like. Limited menu available (sandwiches, pasta salad) to go along with the wine tasting.

We have been wanting to take a trip to Cave Vineyard for a while! A bit over an hour drive from…read morehome, I'd have definitely been more upset at making this drive had we not stopped a couple other places in Ste Genevieve that offered redemption for the experience we had here. The one positive I can mention, is the people are all super nice. Sadly, everything else falls short. The wine is terrible. Not just terrible, but I think that there is something actually wrong with most of them as most are unpleasantly sour and taste of vinegar. I think they must know this too, as these wines are priced 1/2 off for a bottle on their menu. They'd do well just to cut their losses, and dump them. The Grotta Rosa, and the Cave rock were the only two wines that were palatable, and they were just okay. The oddest part of the whole experience of the Cave Vineyard, is in fact the cave. All wine is sampled, and purchased at their tasting room....which is not in the cave. The cave is simply a place that you can sit and drink, and you must either walk to it (which is only maybe a 5-7 minute walk) or they offer to take you there via golf cart. So, you must either purchase all your bottles up front to take with you, or make trips back and forth. You must also head back to the tasting room, to use the bathroom. Definitely skip this one.

Excellent visit! Only need to buy a bottle of wine to go down to the cave! The service was great!…read moreAmbiance is a little dark and cold in the cave but you can sit outside in the deck for light and warmth.
