We visited StarView on a Saturday afternoon in March as part of the Shawnee Hills Wine Trail. The location is nice. There is a large indoor area and a huge back patio partly covered/partly uncovered overlooking a small pond that provides a nice lively but pretty setting in which to enjoy your wine. The parking lot is right out front. They allow you to bring in food and do permit dogs on-leash. When we entered, we saw lots of rather typical wine merchandise to buy. We were hoping to have wine flights outside on the patio, but they only do flights inside at the walk-up bar. Instead, we had a couple of small tastes and picked a bottle of wine to bring out back on the patio. There was a live band performing which was nice. Lots of seating and an energetic vibe. We enjoyed our wine as well. You have the option to either keep your wine glasses as a souvenir or return them to get your deposit back. read more

Small tasting room attached to a winery. The staff were great and wanted to make sure we had all the information about their wines. Small boutique with wine related signs, shirts, coasters, glasses. When we went there was live music and lots of energy for the solar eclipse. Wines we had were delicious and everyone found something to like. A nice winery with pretty ambiance a views. The inside felt a little smaller because it was busy but the outside patio was nice and right over a small lake. Great place to hangout. They had food which I did not order, but my party enjoyed. There were hummingbirds flying around and beautiful stained glass windows. I liked the wine though I didn't find it especially unique. They had wine slushies which my group was really pumped about. read more

Star View vineyards is a fine stop on the Illinois wine trail with a wide selection of wines. Maybe it was the time but the line to purchase wine was long. There is a space specifically set aside for tastings that no one was at. When I say no one was there, I mean no employee was there until someone from the line where people were buying wine called someone over to offer some tastings. I felt absolutely rushed, which was disappointing because the nice person who was doing the tastings was really knowledgeable, which was great but not when you're rushing. There was a large gathering in an adjoining room but I didn't know if it was a private party or if I could have joined in. Star View does play host to many events as I saw some signs posted throughout. I'll be definitely going on the website to see what events there are. I recommend Star View. read more

Gorgeous area and decent wine but food choices were decidedly limited and the grilled chicken sandwich I believe was frozen, precooked , then microwaved and maybe from Costco. Recommend for a glass of wine on the back porch but don't plan a meal there. Side note, not sure if it was incense or cleaning supplies but there was an odor indoors that was really sweet and cloying and headache inducing, I don't think it was what they were trying for read more

StarView Vineyards was one of the first wineries I visited when I turned 21 and it's also the reason I love wine so much. They make wonderful wines from bone dry to sweet...they've got a wine for all wine type lovers! They also have a nice light food menu too for snacking on or making a meal of! The atmosphere is very laid back and the staff is always warm and welcoming. They even have a cute koi pond out back and you can pay .25 cents for food to feed them. Oh yea! Did I mention they have WINE SLUSHIES!!! I suggest stopping by this winery if you have not already! read more

This wasn't on our agenda but I'm so glad we stopped! This was such a beautiful stop and probably my favorite of the wineries we went to. I loved the way they served the tastings. They had food options as well. My favorites were the Moonlight White and the Silver Star. There was a mishap where I was overcharged but it was resolved the same day - which is a huge plus to me. I kind of wish we had stayed here longer instead of going onto the next winery. This is definitely on my list to visit again. read more

This was a beautiful winery with lots of outdoor seating. Upon entering, guests are required to wear masks and staff wore wearing masks as well. There is indoor seating, however it is not available currently. There are markings on the floor to help guests social distance while indoor. The menu does a great job of identifying different types of wine, but I didn't see anything describing the wines. The staff was very helpful in describing the wine. Guests wrote down the 5 wines they wanted on a sheet of paper. There is lots of space outside to eat including on the deck and around the pond. The wines were great. I tried some semi-sweet and sweet wines. The overall environment at the winery was great. They have cafe type food, however I didn't eat anything. This is a winery I would definitely come back to. read more

My favorite of the Shawnee Wine Trail. I brought my dog and wanted a low-key meal, tasting, and excellent view and this place fulfilled that and more. First, you get 5 tastings for $5 which is such a great deal. It's dog friendly on their patio, which has great shade (making it nice to sit outside even on a hot day like our visit.) There's an awesome view of a pond and the winery from the patio area. The waitress was so thoughtful and brought my dog a bowl for water while I worked on my tasting. The wines here aren't nearly as sweet as some of the others in the area and I ended up getting another glass to enjoy of one I particularly liked. Lastly, their food is awesome. I ordered the spinach artichoke dip, which came hot with WARM Panera French bread, and was honestly a heavenly meal. Top it off with excellent service from the girl working several tables by herself and this was my clear favorite of the wineries we have done on this trip! A must visit if in the area. read more

Really liked this Winery. Went there twice. I like that they serve you the flight samples in Real glasses and not little plastic cups. The staff was knowledgeable and helpful. They have a wine slushie that is incredible and the Not Your Father's Root Beer Float which was awesome. You can sit indoors or Outdoors on the patio with umbrellas. You could walk down to the pond and feed the Sunfish koi fish and turtles. Would definitely recommend this place read more

This little winery is a gem!! It's a perfect location for a nice lunch or romantic date. It's tucked away in the backroads of the Shawnee wine trail and worth the stop. We sipped wine on the deck overlooking a pond and the vineyard. The staff was courteous and knowledgeable about the selections available. They even had wine slushies! The slushy was delicious too. We decided on wine tasting and they provided a great little wine rack to hang our glasses. The wine was so good we brought a few bottles home! My favorites was the sangria. We got slushed at StarView! I'm a huge huge fan of wine slushies and because of this, StarView was recommended as one of our stops on the trail. This winery was hopping when we got there but were greeted immediately upon walking into their main room. We both got the slushies and settled in on their gorgeous deck over looking a gorgeous lake. The only thing missing was live music but we were too early for it. Tastings are $5 and they do have a food menu that we noticed looked pretty good from what people were ordering. read more

Our daughter had her wedding here and could not have asked for a more beautiful day, 10/19/19. Brett and Regina are the BEST!!!! They were very helpful with everything and anything we asked of them. The service was awesome as well. Being Mother of the Bride nerves were running rampant that day. Their reassuring words and especially Baby Lily helped calm the nerves. Went on a weekend trip to the area and stopped in this winery on the 17th in the afternoon. The woman at the wine tasting counter was helping another couple at the time, we waited for about 20 minutes until they left and then the woman working finally acknowledged us. She told us we needed a $40 deposit for the glasses for flights and before we could say anything, she immediately began to put away other glasses and bottles and went back to ignoring us. A few minutes later another couple walked in and she greeted them very nicely and began making small talk until we decided to leave since we were not being helped at all. Not sure if it's because we were the only people of color, but regardless, do not recommend!! We later went to Blue Sky and Feather Hills which were both great experiences! read more

I've visited a few times now and always enjoy myself here. Outdoor seating is plentiful, with nice views of the pond and grapevines. Staff are friendly and knowledgeable. I lean heavily on the dry wine scale and am always pleased with the selection. The Dry Rose is superb. There is a great beer selection too, for those of you who prefer brews to wine! read more

Horrible experience yesterday. They hosted diamondback on Saturday and it was a complete mess. The staff was VERY rude, and the owner is just plain incompetent. We paid 10 dollars each to get into the event and it was no where near worth it. I visited Star View Winery while hitting up the Shawnee Hills Wine Trail with some family from Southern Illinois... it was our last stop of the night and I was hoping it would be a good one. They had a band outside which was great... I liked the relaxing atmosphere of Star View. We did the tasting (5 for $1), but I wasn't really digging many of the wines... I ended up getting a glass of the frozen Concord slushy thing which was pretty tasty. At a winery I expect some transfer of knowledge, how they make it, what's in it, etc., but we got nothing. The person who gave us our tasting seemed completely uninterested and it was like he had better things to do than to help his customers. If there would have been a better customer service experience, I probably would have enjoyed this winery more. read more

Wine Slushy? Yes, Please! My little sister took my mom and I here one hot, sticky, humid, gross summer day while we were visiting from the "city" aka Chicago. Well, I cannot say I was disappointed. I haven't been on the wine trail here, in fact, this is my first winery in Southern Illinois, but it was perfect. I couldn't imagine coming up a dirt road after hitting up the local Rural King in Carbondale to anything less than a winery with their special wine displayed as the "Wine Slushy." That wasn't even the best part! It was so relaxing just sitting outside on the back deck in the shade sipping a wine slushy while looking out over a small pond and the vineyards. I noticed they serve food, but the slushy is all we had...and I don't regret it. read more

This place is bad. My friend and I drove all the way from the Garden of Gods there. I paid the fee for tasting. Let me tell you:it is true, that the tasting should be a drop of of liquor. But in such case, I expect to be given a fresh glass or at least a rinse in between the tastings. Adding LITERALLY 2 drops to my glass, will not kill the taste of that 1 drop left there. My tasting were lesser of .5 ounce. And yes, Ive done enough tasting to know my ounce in the glass. At my 3rd taste I finally said it out loud: I think this would e my favorite. But I can still taste the previous wine in my glass. And I could bet, this was the owner I did not tip. I did not purchase. If ever in the area, I will avoid this place. And yes, the place was empty. I just love this winery. It's small and quaint, but it never feels overcrowded. Staff is friendly, and it takes no time at all to get set up for a wine tasting or to check out with a slush. My bachelorette party hit up Starview, and it was likely the favorite of our trip. We were able to mingle easily with some of us at the tasting bar, some outside sitting under umbrellas, and others sitting inside getting some AC. The perfect weekend spot! This is our favorite stop on the Shawnee Wine Trail. Blue Sky has a fancier setup, but Starview just seems more fun for us. Unlike most wineries, when you walk in the door here, you get a definite sense something fun is going on. The servers were all very friendly and good humored. The wine is typical of the area, but they also have gret sangria and wine slushes, so be sure and include these in your tasting. My guess is you'll choose one of these instead of wine. There is also a respectable beer selection here, and a big deck out back were there were two big bachelorette parties going on and the good times vibe continued.
