We spent nearly $20,000 on Hunter Douglas window treatments in 2022 for our new townhome, including motorized blinds. One of those blinds failed the very first summer, and since then it has required at least ten repairs. At one point Hunter Douglas had the blind shipped back, leaving us without it for two of the three months we actually live in the home each year. I am working with a sub-company that sells Hunter Douglas blinds. The sub-company is working hard to make the HD blinds work. The "standard deductions" for the limited warranty are absurd. HD wants to cut over half an inch on each side of the blind and then cut the size of the casement as well. Doing this will mean the shade will not cover the glass section of the window completely. The sub-company contacted HD and asked if they would make the custom order. HD stated, "While HD does offer many customizable features for our products, we unfortunately are not a fully custom manufacturer...." I am at a loss as to why they would not complete an order for a customer who is completing the installation. I even stated I would waive their Limited Lifetime Warranty. What can a "limited" warranty look like? I do not have time to waste on reading their list of things that would be limited. It does seem like their ability to complete a simple casement blind is one of their limits..... Sorry, no photos. I paid the full amount for the blinds. I asked clarifying questions to the sub-company, and they indicated that HD does custom orders. Terrible experience. The installer, Abbas pointedly told me that the product breaks easily. When I requested to discuss concerns he raised at installation, manager Judith Hunter called & casually profiled her employees: "Lana is half-Russian, but does alright despite her limited English." (???) Tons of problems just to get basic transactions accomplished at $1308.02 for a 44"X 26.5 " kitchen window. I ordered high end (expensive) custom drapes from Hunter Douglas through Costco in August last year. They were installed in October and while the farbic was very high quality, they were incorrectly measured, various degrees of too long, clumping on the floor and incorrectly installed with uneven pleating and uneven spacing of the hooks. I had them come out to assesss and they agreed they were incorrect and set a date to take them down for revision. Before they had a chance to do that, one of the four sets of drapes fell clean off the wall. The hardware wasn't strong enough to suppor the weight. They picked them up in December to alter and assured me they would be installed with increased bracket support. It is now almost April, and despite multiple email chains and phone calls, the drapes are somehow still not ready for reinstallation so we are heading into month 7 of headaches and wasted time trying to communicate with customer service and still no sign of progress. At approx 14K for 4 sets of drapes, I find the quality of both the product and service completely unacceptable. If I could return them I 100% would. read more

I have purchased many blinds from Hunter Douglas. Hunter Douglas advertises that there product is made to last. If only that were true. Not only does the product not last, the company does not supply parts for blinds that are older than about 10 years. The advice from the company in my situation has been: "buy a new blind". One of my non-functional blinds is only 7 years old. It needs a new motor. They don't supply that motor any longer. I spent $3,600 for the blind in 2018. Buy a new blind?? My husband and I bought blinds for four rooms from a Hunter Douglas kiosk at our local Costco. These were installed by the company and carried a life time warranty. in the last two weeks we noticed a bit of difficulty with two of these, as we tried to raise or lower them. I have had my hunter douglas blinds for 15 years. They are the honey comb duet model. They are rarely used, but are a motorized model since they are 20ft up and difficult to reach. A plastic part on two of them broke which plastic in the sun will do over time. I called customer service after spending a few hours trying to find the part. Waited 24 mins for the agent to argue with me that I dont have hunter douglas bli ds and they only service hunter douglas. It says hunter douglas in multiple places and on the remote. It has an order number with my name on it but she couldnt get past that I ordered them from a now closed store. Im assuming it was an overseas call center or they are compensated to turn people away. Blinds were great but if you have any issues prepare to be on your own. I just wanted to buy some parts. I would look at other brands in the future. We had 23 of the roller shades installed in our new house in 2019. Since then, we have had to replace 5 of the motors- a 22% failure rate in 5 years. Hunter-Douglas covers the motor cost under warranty, but not the cost of the installer to replace it, at ~$200 per visit. Initially, we programmed the blinds to close and open using the app, although randomly not all the blinds will activate. Now however, none of the programming works. Hunter-Douglas claims that its because we have updated our wifi, and they don't work with Gen 5 wifi. This week we had another blind stop working; now the failure rate is over 26%. And the app still doesn't work. I would NOT recommend this product. read more

BUYER BEWARE OF HUNTER DOUGLAS! I purchased a mix of 21 Hunter Douglas manual shades and 14 motorized shades and blinds in fall 2018 when I moved into my new house. Needless to say they were expensive, but I thought I was buying a quality product so I wouldn't regret it. WRONG!! Almost from the beginning several of the motorized shades had problems staying connected to the app on my phone or the physical remote that came with the shades. Most of my early calls to support were eventually successful in re-programming the problem shade(s), but I made far too many calls and spent far too many hours troubleshooting these connectivity problems over and over again. Last summer when I called again for help I was told the problem blind was out of warranty and I should take it to a repair center. They recommended a somewhat nearby repair shop and just over 2 months and $185 later, I received my blind back. Now it operates on a different system, Power View Gen 3 versus all the other shades on Gen 2. Grateful to have the shade working again, even if a mildly inconvenient setup, we got used to it. This week that shade stopped working and my call to Hunter Douglas tech support was much less than helpful. I was repeatedly lectured as to why it wasn't really their problem anymore and how the local repair shop isn't really inconvenient for me. Really?? Who made the unreliable product to begin with? And who are they to tell me about the challenges of Chicago area traffic. I realize warranties expire, however, when a customer has MANY repeated problems during the warranty period, pays $ to have a blind that shouldn't need to be fixed repaired, the company really ought to be more helpful. I can only say I am deeply disappoiinted with the problematic product quality and customer service, especially now that the blinds are out of warranty. I will certainly think twice before buying another Hunter Douglas product. As a side note, 5 of the manual blinds would no longer stay up and seem to have been repaired properly. My 2 star rating was extremely generous so you better read this (boy I wish I had read the reviews before I purchased these) before you invest in HD luminettes. The value of the motorized luminette itself, particulally for a patio, is poor (No greater than 1 star) . Remember, the luminettes are suppose to be their best (and definitely most expensive) product. I have had these for 18 months and had major issues from the get go. 1. Hunter messed up on the original patio configuration. Dont know how as the reseller salesman diagram was very clear. So hunter had to remake them and send them. That took another few weeks 2. The correct configuration finally arrives. The installer comes out and says "they sent the wrong bracket." Are you kidding me? Then the correct bracket they sent normal USPS and took over a week to get here. 3. OK, they are here and installed, but One of the remakes began to come apart after only a couple of weeks - so another was made and reshipped. Installer pays another visit to me home and more of my precious time is wasted. My Luminettes are patio so they open from right to left and left to right. The design is poorly engineered (even the installers have told me that!) , especially with aesthetics. You dont notice that until you get them and it takes more than the "Happy 30 day promise" to realize it. I actually put in an "Unhappy request" to get a different Hunter window treatment but nobody did anything so i am stuck with these and probably done with Hunter. You begin to notice the uneven and weird hoakie-pokie design of the blinds behind the sheers. My left patio opens properly only in 1 direction whereas the other patio is ok in both directions The track makes clicking noises as they open. If you purchase them you will be locked into Hunter for as long as you have them as they are proprietary. For example, You cannot easily remove the 96" patios - you need a specialist. They are so fragile - do not treat these like verticals - as the sheer material will develop wrinkles the moment you begin to handle them . I tell all my contractors, please stay away from my patio luminettes! I have 2 other motorized window treatments (smaller windows) - they are known as "Bandage Blinds". I could have purchased Hunter Bandage blinds for those other 2 windows but i opted to use another company ( I think they were made by Lafayette with a somfy motor ) due to the hefty HD price. And after the Luminettes and the Hunter issues, I am glad i did. During COVID the support was poor. I had issues in contacting the HD seller/installer when I had issues during COVID. I couldnt get anyone to come out to my home. As of today, I am actually still having minor issues with the luminettes and I have lost all faith in the product Im sure other homeowners have experienced issues in addition to mine as i have read all reviews from yelp, google, BBB and others I have not found anyone who is even remotely happy with Hunter's motorized luminettes and this was one of my worst decisions I have made with my home. They are just that bad - $4200 poorly spent. Im lucky I did not do my other treatments with luminettes. The only positive is their luminette today doesnt use batteries - they use a wall outlet. But make sure you have a UPS using a storm if the power goes out especially for patios (I feel bad for homeowners who purchased the older 16 battery style!) . Hunter is not the creme de la creme from the past I am sorry to say. I relied on their name, that was a huge mistake. They remind me of IBM when they went down hill in the PC world. And if you end up with a poor Hunter reseller (and there are so many bad ones), then you will be extemely unhappy and frustrated. read more

After a few years, the unit failed, I could not raise the bottom up, only could lower the top down. After 3 months of calls/email to the vendor, and do it yourself repair suggestions and parts, it is still not working. This is the worst designed blind I have ever purchased. More importantly, over TWO YEARS later and they still have not come out as promised to fix mistakes made when they were installed or deliver the extra remote controls we paid for 2 years ago. We bought Hunter Douglas shades to replace others that were worn out and paid a lot for them. The quality of fabrication was surprisingly lacking. We had to send them back to have them tightened as they buckled when we tried to lift them up. And then the cheap plastic lifters started to break so we got replacements. Now they are starting to break and our largest blind will only go up about half way because we suspect a spring is broken. We are going to replace all of them with another brand as we are done with Hunter Douglas. read more

Have had the roman shades replaced twice in 4 years. The edge has no binding or hem to keep them from unraveling.

Purchased ten (10) Duette Hunter Douglas shaded in Jun 2019. As of Jun 2023 six of the ten shades the have broken. Each time the lift cords broke: sometimes when lifting or lowering the shade, sometimes when the shade is static. In addition eight (8) of the ten have cracked shade handles. The crack is right where the attachment screw is located. Again cracked without anyone touching the shade handle. We are so paranoid about the cords breaking that we are afraid to move the shade up or down. Doesn't matter they cord break happen when not touched. Paid a lot of money for 10 of these shades. What a waste. Never again will I ever buy Hunter Douglas. The warranty covers the break (at a cost of $25 for shipping). Regardless is what's better a warranty or a product that is reasonably reliable. We have other brands of shades in our home - many that are over 12 years old - never broken. Bought this particular model/brand because they are dual lift shades. Buyer beware. read more

Hunter Douglas is miserable to deal with. They have awful customer service and when there's a problem with one of their products, the item can't be fixed on site but instead, has to be removed, shipped back to their factory and then, takes 3 weeks to a month to be returned. I had multiple problems with a particular shade that was in my bedroom, at the front of the house. It was removed and shipped back to them and I was supposed to be ok with the repair taking a month each time. Ridiculous. Ten minutes ago, I had replacement shades installed in my bedroom by Next Day Blinds. This is the second room in my home where I have made that change and as other window treatments age around my home, I will do the same. Next Day Blinds is a pleasure. Hunter Douglas is a bad outfit. They used to be king of the hill. Now, they're an arrogant company that doesn't believe that customer service is important. I'm voting with my feet. They won't get my business again. read more

I don't think these blinds are worth the money. Yes they are automated and fully controlled by a remote or a app but after a year, 2 of my blinds stopped working, they would not respond to the remote. When I called PKS interiors from whom I bought the blinds they told me that it would cost me $95 for a technician to come to program the blinds so they work again. I was under the understanding that the blinds had a lifetime warranty. Well, I was made to realize that that was only for the motor and the blind sheets, not anything else. I bought the room darkening blinds by paying extra for a special material that is supposed to block the light. Well just so you know it just blocks 40% of the light. The room is still not dark enough. Just keep that in mind. Now I am stuck with 2 blinds that don't work and I have to figure out how to program it to get it up and running..... I paid $7000 for this crap..... will think twice next time I invest in a hunter Douglas! read more
