I ordered the OG burger with aioli sauce and a GF bun. GF is typically stale and that can take away from the overall taste, but the burger was great and made up for that. Not anymore, with tables packed and people queuing out Miss Kay's door. So there's many things to like about this place, sadly the burgers isn't one of them :( I've tried 3 different burgers and they all lacked some kind of sauce or marinade for my liking. I don't really mind what they put on it, I'd be happy with ketchup, BBQ, mayo, aioli, satay, sriracha - my palate is a broad church. The burgers just need something in my opinion. As for the sides, the fries are good but they really need a smaller sized option for those grabbing a solo weekday lunch. The $8.50 milkshakes have cool names, and they would be fine if they were half the price or twice the size. Overall, unfortunately it doesn't look like this place is for me.

Requested rum and got red rum, got johnny walker when asked for something else. Food was nice. Especially for burger price compared to specialist places like Urge or Grilled. Too strong and tasted yucky. Will go back again to try other burgers next time. But may just get take away.

When it was time to decide where to eat, we chose this location that was right off the road. The venue itself was pretty clean and the ambience of it reminds me of a fancy Bistro that we would have back in the states. This venue celebrates and highlights their burgers, chips, and homemade sauces. The chips itself are what we would call "steakfries" back in the states and they are seasoned with house-inspired herbs. I ordered the Wagyu burger and it was delicious. The bringer was cooked at medium-well, a little over for my personal taste, however, their homemade mayo in the burger made all the difference. While I am usually picky about how they prep the buns, the hamburger bun complemented the burger well both aesthetically and taste wise. Overall: I would come back and try the variety of burgers that they have. It's a nice little joint to visit whether you are visiting in town or are just out-and-about.

We both ordered the Rusty Breakfast which was massive, but I was so disappointed with the barely warmed up bacon. I'm sure that there must be some people that like their bacon like this, barely cooked with no colour and not a hint of crispiness, but I am definitely not one of them and I pushed it aside. This would have been an awesome breakfast with some delicious crispy bacon, and if we were to go back I'd have to ask if they can cook crispy bacon before ordering as it was such a let down compared to the rest of the meal.

Waited about an hour for our two meals (not sure if it was because we moved tables but that wasn't long after we sat on the first ones) Others who arrived after us, had received their foods and even left. When they realised they messed up, the waitress was really nice to offer us free drinks and 20% off. Was really humbled to hear that and it was good they took responsibility and reprimanded it. Fried chicken and waffles was a bit of a disappointment. Chicken was a bit dry, skin didn't have a nice batter and was too oily. Waffles were too bready and over drizzled with the maple syrup. Bacon was nice though. Think it's a great idea to have on the menu but the chicken should be southern battered fried chicken, waffles should be thinner and crunchy and not so much maple syrup. Got our meals discounted so was I happy. Keen to come back and give them another chance till I decide to become a regular. Rooting for you guys!

The meals came quickly with enough time passing between ordering and eating to know it's been made fresh and hasn't been sitting in a Bain Marie all morning. Its sheer ostentatious colour scheme has a hypnotic effect, you start to salivate and when you regain consciousness you're inside. Show tunes play in the background making you want for nothing more than to hop on a stool and wait of a frosty cold milkshake to slide your way. Then you realize you're in Milk. A modern take on the traditional milk bar/diner from classic times of jukeboxes and Fonzarelli. Being a café that's situated in one of Brisbane's busiest suburbs, Milk caters for a wide range of consumers. For those are time poor and in a rush, there is take away coffee and a display fridge carrying a selection of premade wraps and sandwiches. In addition, there is also a wide range of cakes, candy, ice cream and slices for the sweet tooth. After ordering at the counter, those with time in their corner have the option of sitting inside or outside. All around me there are mothers, business people, teenagers (on holidays) chatting, laughing and networking. It's a relaxing and family friendly atmosphere and the staff only amplify the surroundings. You can tell that Milk, with its nod towards traditional good service and quality foods encourages repeat business. For a lot of people in the room, I wouldn't be surprised if they were regulars sitting at their favorite tables eating their favorite food. For my induction into the Milk fold, I've ordered a Chicken Licken Burger ($16.90) and a Banana Milkshake. When it comes out it's more than worth the dollars I've chucked into it. Halfway through I'm full but determined to finish my meal. Not because I'm a sucker for punishment but because of how great its tastes. The pain is worth it.

I first heard about it from a friend and she described it to me as a 50s milk and burger bar, so naturally my eyes widened and I was keen for the first opportunity to eat there. Walking in there is just so much yellow! Yellow lounges, yellow and white striped interior awnings, yellow staff shirts, and a yellow website if you feel like having a look. It's really well furnished and gives off an air of retro glamour without any of the tacky elements that people sometimes associate with retro, yet it's also modern. I don't know how they managed to pull that off, but the end product is an amazingly inviting café where I want a boy wearing a bowtie and Ray Bans to take me for a milkshake and ask me to go steady. Or a bad boy wearing a leather jacket à la Grease. Either is good thanks. The breakfast menu caters for every nation. And by that I mean you can choose from an English brekky, Welsh, Australian (with chips, obviously), Irish, Balinese, Scottish, Jamaican, Italian, and so many more! And I saw kiddies running around with cute little cupcakes. They also serve real tea, not teabag tea and make a really good cup of coffee. Did I also mention the music? I heard flashes of Tom Jones, the Beatles, the Carpenters and, wait for it, Disney. Beauty and the Beast to be exact. Be Our Guest, to be more exact. Need I say more?

Above them a sign read: Mary's Seafood and Takeaway. I got keen. I crossed the road and saw that Mary's had some deals going on. The one that caught my fancy was a classic takeaway meal - A chicken schnitzel burger, chips and can of drink ($8.50). With decision in mind and an empty stomach I strode up to the counter and asked, who I assumed was Mary, if she had EFTPOS. She didn't, fail. Non-the-less she pointed me to the ATM and I soon had my order cooking away. As I sat drinking my lemonade, the kids next to me all got up and before they left all said goodbye to Mary. To my surprise she seemed to have all their names down. I thought this was a good indicator to what I was about to eat. As the kids rolled out a ragged old couple rolled in and Mary brought me my meal. As I opened the paper bags and looked at my burger and chips I though about the place I was in. Mary's, a hole in the wall fish and chippery, situated in a street that is just starting to get yuppified. Those ideals still hadn't affected Mary's and it showed in what I was served. A basic processed chicken patty, lettuce, tomato and mayo. Plain, easy, simple, stock standard. Even if what I got was value for money it was nowhere near the quality I was expecting. But I got what I payed for.
