    Eggplant dip, kale salad,

I cannot describe how good this meal was but I'll try: it was such an incredible combination of flavors. My friends and I ended up ordering 3/4ths of the menu and every single bite was incredible. The best green beans I've ever had. The best eggplant dip I've ever had. The best sourdough, I just can't stop thinking about it or raving about it.

Very cool 80's themed bar. Reservation recommended! Walked in for a drink host and bar staff were great, accommodating and attentive. Loved the 80's decor.

I have been here a few times and it's always great. The food and service are amazing. I came for an early dinner with a friend on Saturday and got the frozen cosmo. Highly recommend. The menu changes regularly, so if you keep coming back things may be different. The grilled pastrami is a fave of mine!

Awesome place for a date night . Drinks were amazing . We both got the sidecars martini. Very strong ! The host was very nice but the bartenders were a bit corky & seemed under the influence. Def would come back though ! Small food menu item as well .

Get the artichoke hearts on the half shell!! Want a fun restaurant that's different in NOLA? Check out Hungry Eyes. I love letting my daughters choose restaurants when we travel because they find so many unique choices. Hungry Eyes was such a fun place to meet up to celebrate a med school graduation with a very close family friend. So cute inside. Great service. Delicious food. Menu is so interesting. Lots of options for vegetarians, carnivores and omnivores. Order a bunch and eat tapas style. Started with the artichoke hearts on the half shell. ORDER THIS ONE!! Chili, garlic and Parmesan crusted artichoke hearts served with crusty sourdough bread. They come 3 to an order, but our hostess added one for our party of 4. Soooo delicious!! Other starters were the eggplant dip served with roti and steak tartare. The eggplant dip was so smooth and smoky. Covered in sesame seeds and topped with cucumbers, tomatoes and herbs, it was a great way to start a celebration dinner. The grilled pastrami was another must try. Thin slices of fresh pastrami grilled on a skewer. Served with crisp, fresh lettuce, beets, pickled veggies and herbs, make a lettuce wrap and enjoy. So good. The grilled cabbage and bok choy rounded out our tasting menu. They both paired perfectly with the pastrami. From the tapas style meal, cool ambiance and great service where our water glasses were never empty, which was very appreciated on a balmy Friday night in New Orleans, this was a great choice. Would definitely recommend for something unexpected.

Saw this place on social media for a while and it has been on my to-do list. The "80s" theme that they project on Instagram is very underwhelming once you see it in person. The service was absolutely terrible. Our server looked and acted like he was stoned or something, and had difficulty answering the most basic of questions. But honestly, I think the stoned, hipster vibe is what they are going for anyways. The food was decent, which is why I gave it three stars. Nothing on the menu really blew me away, but I left full and couldn't really complain about any of it. probably wouldn't be going back, but glad I gave it a chance.

I'd really like to give a 3.5 if possible but a 4 is too much. Overall it's an interesting place but I don't think they are doing a great job executing the actual product and image they are trying too. We sat at the bar. The staff was pleasant and we had good service. And the food for the most part was good. We had the Tuna, Crudo and artichoke on a half shell. All were very good. It was steak night so they offered what they describe as their medium rare a prime rib eye with fries and optional bleu cheese. The steak was underwhelming...especially at $65. It tastes and presents like a $35 steak. Plus not medium rare and messy. The decor which at initially feels 80s nostalgic but then I realized it's more like a 80s B movie and an explosion of 80s Garage Sale finds.... Plus many items were 1990s.....just being picky. Lastly the drinks were average at best. Mostly felt like A Martini heavy menu. We had several and were blah and overpriced. You need to execute a mixed drink perfectly for the prices. The Filthy Guilda option was inventive though. For the amount we spent I expected a $250 experience but received a discount store version maybe half of that.

I'm a fan of both Turkey and the Wolf as well as Molly's Rise and Shine, so naturally I had to try Hungry Eyes when it opened. I'd describe the food as New American, and it definitely has a more fine dining feel compared to Turkey/Molly's. Don't worry though--even with the higher-end flavors and prices to match, the vibes are still very casual, as shown in the funky 80s decor and tableware. Side note: the bathroom is very cool as well lol, mirrors everywhere! Anyways, the food. We ordered family style and shared the: - artichoke hearts on the half shell: presentation was cute. the artichokes are served on oyster shell dishes and almost look like chargrilled oysters (kinda taste a little like them also?? Or maybe that's just placebo haha). These were delicious. - crudo: this was one of my favorite items on the menu. Lots of different flavors going on, and overall the dish is very light and refreshing - veal sweetbreads: also good. lots of different textures with the crisp of the breading mixed with the fattiness of the veal, along with several different types of crunch provided by peanut, puffed rice, and bean sprouts. I really enjoyed the veggie/dressing component of this dish. - fried crab boil potatoes with tartar sauce - tastes exactly like it sounds. I wish the potatoes were a **tad** crispier - daily special: seared scallops in this light sauce with southeast Asian flavors and spice. So good! Probably one of my favorite things we had. I wish this were a permanent fixture on the menu! - DRINKS: claro que tea was light and almost tasted reminiscent of a white wine or rose to me. Pandan old fashioned was actually so good. I'm not a huge bourbon fan, but I loved how much the pandan flavor lingered after each sip. They don't take reservations, so we did have to wait around ~30ish minutes around 5pm on a weekday, but it helps that you can order drinks and have water while you wait. 18% gratuity is added onto your bill automatically. Overall, I'm glad I tried this place! Everything I had was well done. I'm not exactly sure if anything blew me away but I'm excited to see what else may show up on the menu, and I just love the quirky atmosphere, so I'd come back.

Honestly would give it about a 3.25 or 3.5. The interior is somewhat weird and it's trying to be a cool expensive retro vibe but I was somewhat thrown off by the decor and dish ware. Things I loved - the food was a solid 4/5 and the saving grace of this place. We got the eggplant dip that was probably the highlight of the menu. The crudo and beef tartar was okay. The other entree that was really really good was the calamari curry. The drinks were horrible. I could not drink it at all. I got the carrote chop and I took two sips before I called it quits. Finally the service was very meh. The waitress we had was curt and seemed annoyed when we asked questions Overall the food was good, drinks are awful, but worth going once or twice

    Steak night!

Mmm. Happy to know about their Saturday steak night. Fun 80s themed spot with a small but tasty menu. Patio out back is nice too! Staff was super accommodating and knowledgeable around our food allergies and needs. Great down to earth date night spot. Snag a resy beforehand and you're solid

    Roasted Artichoke

Hungry Eyes has an offering of delicious and unique food. The inside is a funky as the name from the 80's suggests, with a casual atmosphere, but don't let that fool you when it comes to their food. We started with the Roasted Artichokes, served as if Oysters Rockefeller, and in our case a Yellowtail Tuna Appetizer that melted in our mouths with freshness and flavor. Also be sure to get the Salad in Disguise served with a crunchy seed topping, and LEAVE ROOM FOR DESSERT! We had their chocolate cheesecake, and were felled. For the quality and imagination of the fare, the prices were VERY reasonable! Also, if you don't mind early, they have a happy hour! And be sure to save time to shop before dinner, as they are located along trendy Magazine Street.

After wanting to go for ages we finally made it to Hungry Eyes! We made sure to stay uptown so we could make it there when they opened at 4 pm. The ambiance is everything! The decor is super cute and very 80's. We started off with cocktails which were yummy and then got some of the smaller plates to try. The artichoke hearts on a half shell were fantastic! We ordered a side of roti to go with the halibut crudo which was very flavorful and had an interesting touch of cinnamon. We also got an order of fries with toum and the grilled pastrami. I can't wait to go back and try more!

    Espresso martini
    Ella A.

The espresso martini and cosmo were so bad that I sent both back, and I never send things back in restaurants. The fries with garlic sauce (toum) and sourdough ciabatta were both good (we did have to request butter for the bread, and they brought us the most hilarious presentation of butter - see the picture). As someone else has said, the interior is pretty bad, the music was strangely nowhere near 80's music - they played tribal and Latin music the entire time we were there. It's a small place and service was fine. They do automatically add an 18% charge to your check. I would not come back.

I wish I'd ignored the ambiance and just gone to another spot. The server/hostess was friendly and it really is a great location and perfect space. I ordered the chicken shawarma wrap with tzaziki and a Lebanese tea. I waited a little while and everything came out together, no water, so I was ready for a beverage. The wrap was a tortilla so nothing special and the shawarma just didn't have any flavor. They may have forgotten the tzaziki or that was lacking in flavor too. I'll probably stick with shawarma on the go or other spots in the area going forward. A side or fries would have been a good addition too. I saw on my way out that fries were included with the shawarma wrap as a lunch special of the day but I guess they left that out for mine. The tea wasn't my favorite. It had a strong chemical taste (maybe red dye) and few pine nuts. Not my favorite meal but maybe other meats are better. This one left me wanting.

We had a great experience and already have it on the list of go-tos when we are back in the city, as we return fairly often. First off, that bread. My gosh, I could have just sat for an hour and eaten it alone. I love that it just keeps coming too - we never once had to ask for more; by the time we were finishing up the pieces there, another set was delivered. Heaven. We had not one bad thing. The ikra was the surprise of the salatims/dips - so good - and the muhammara was excellent as well. That fried chicken hummus was perfect - so creamy and a bit of a different texture than most other hummus, but it worked. We tried the lamb kebabs and crispy halloumi - both of which were solid; however, when they say small plates, they mean small. I thought the serving sizes were a bit tiny. Nonetheless, we were full before even making it to the larger dinner plates and settled on the chocolate tart and knafeh cheesecake for dessert; honestly, I could have done without both. They weren't bad, but they weren't very flavorful to me. Definitely a 5-star, but if it wanted to be a 10-star, I would say a bit larger portions, better desserts, and more friendly service (he did his job but didn't really seem like he wanted to be there). Go now!
