The kitchen was fully visible from the lobby. The ambiance was basic and for me screamed only patronage when in a pinch. The food took an average length to be prepared, but came out piping hot. My only complaint about this place is that I'm here on vacation and it is 6 hours from home This spot for me is Chinese takeout goals. First off, I love how the menu offers smaller portions so single folks like me can have a variety of items. My total was less than $20 for what's in the pic. I usually have to spend close to $30 to get a 2 dishes at similar places. My two favorite items, Sweet n Sour chicken and Beef lo mein taste exactly how I want them to. While i have no complaints about my order. Unfortunately the person cooking was sick with a respiratory illness, I watched him sneeze and cough, and then he proceeded to spit out whatever he coughed right next to where the food was being cooked. I told the lady the counter that that was in sanitary and they needed to do something about it the should not be there without wearing a mask, possibly contaminating the food. She told me that she will take care of it by a mask, not sure how true or whether she followed through. read more

My fiance and I went and I ordered a Lo Mein and he got some combo fried rice and then a egg drop soup on the side. there's no tables inside just chairs along the walls, Service was okay, we had to wait a while as it was just 2 people working. when we got our food we came home and ate and as i was finishing my food i noticed there was a worm/ maggot in my food, i was instantly disgusted and sick to the stomach idk how many more were in my food and how many i ate, we could not finish our food. I went back to get a refund and she only refunded my plate, I tried asking for a full refund for all the food (it's all cooked in the same kitchen, same stove) but only received it for mine but ill take what i can get i guess, they weren't going to do the full thing. She'll tell you your food will be ready in 10 or 20 minutes, but you can expect to wait double that. Do not go to this restaurant. read more

Here is the real issue with this business. It simply takes too long. Granted the food is good but if your name is freaking Express then at least try for that. Definitely nothing special at Hunan Express. The food tastes just like every other cheap Chinese to-to place. I ordered the sesame chicken and an order of fried pork won-tons. The sesame chicken was okay, but kinda soggy and definitely not crispy at all. The won-tons were awful and I actually ended up throwing them away. They were soggy and chewy. They were not busy when I went in, yet the employees were rude and barely acknowledged me other than to shout my total and take my credit card. As far as small-town Fort Walton Beach Chinese takeout goes, you could do worse than Hunan Express. Their fried rice is actual fried rice (many similar places serve yellow/saffron rice as fried rice, which is definitely not fried), they have some unusual menu offerings (fried zucchini and bananas), and they're shockingly attentive to detail and friendly (the lady who greeted me repeatedly checked the order to make sure they weren't forgetting anything, and made small talk while I waited). They also, at the time of this review writing, give a generous amount of sugarcoated fried "donuts" when you order more than $30 worth of food. Overall worth your time to check them out if your usual Chinese takeout options have disappointed you repeatedly. read more

I have been ordering Chinese food from hear for years. It's not a fancy place and if the weather is nice I notice they will sometimes prop the front door open but some of the reviews I read are just ridiculous! It's mostly a carry out place and it is clean and you can watch everything you order being prepared. If you come at the right time of day you'll see the same person who takes your order and often cooks your food chopping fresh vegetables. The food is about as good as it gets as far as I'm concerned. The girl that runs this place may not be the most outgoing person in the world but as hard as she works and as much as she cares about getting the food prepared the way it should be and the orders right I could care less. She's there every day of the week every week and it's been that way for all the years I've gone there. I do see her crack a smile every now and then and that just makes it actually mean something. Some of these people who made some bad comments just need to get themselves a teddy bear. read more
