We'd been there once many years ago, and a pre-show dinner brought us to this cozy half-basement, intimately set-up, fully vegetarian eatery again. We started with their 3-mezze deal (3 for $26), and stopped reading the long list of options after the consecutive display of our favorite veggies: beetroot, artichoke, and brussels sprout. The chunky artichoke was stewed with chopped tomatoes, but remained nicely al dente while soaked with flavors. The beetroot salad came with a surprise green herb: one may expect parsley, but it was cilantro instead, which lent it a unique aroma. For our mains, I asked for Falafel Hummus while husband ordered veggie couscous. The hummus, their specialty, was just divine: silky, smooth, creamy, rich, tasty ... I could not stop eating it. Yes my happy mood was definitely sponsored by hummus, as claimed by the plaque on the wall :-). And the falafels were also the type I love - crispy brown on the outside while luscious green on the inside (from green herbs such as parsley). The couscous looked simple, with large chunks of veggies over a bed of couscous. However, the broth that our waiter delivered turned the whole dish into an ambrosial feast! When I want cozy Mediterranean food with no frills, I know Hummus Place is a solid option. My friend and I split the eggplant shakshuka and the falafel platter, and it was excellent. I've never had eggplant in my shakshuka and I'm so glad I got to try it here. The eggplant slices were large but soft and absorbed the flavors and spices of the tomato sauce wonderfully. The potatoes and salad were good to eat when dipped in the hummus or shakshuka. The hummus was bomb! The labane cheese was creamy and savory. It was delightful with the soft and warm pita. I came in Saturday opening time at around 11:30. It was an underground type area that was fairly small, but it was not overly crowded. The brunch on the weekends is the best. I ordered the aubergine eggs at $20 and it was amazing - it comes with home fries, salad, hummus, as well as juice/coffee. My friends ordered the shakshuka and the mallawach and they also enjoyed their meals. Although there was only one waiter when we were there in the morning, he was attentive and refilled our coffee/waters and cleared our table as we finished eating. Wow. This place has some of the best falafel and shakshuka I've had! I highly suggest going for brunch on a weekend as they have some options that come with a combination of several things. We got one of their brunch shakshukas (2 eggs in a tomato sauce) as well as a side order of babaganoush (eggplant dip) and falafel (fried chickpea balls). The main dish came with sides of salad, hummus, pita, roasted potatoes, orange juice, and your choice of coffee or tea. It is a great value for what you get. The hummus is excellent - so smooth and lightly seasoned so you can enjoy the freshness of the ingredients. Paired with pillowy-soft pita, it's an excellent side. The salad is good - nothing too special about it. Roasted potatoes are good - nothing special about this either. Shakshuka is amazing. The eggs are served over easy, and a generous amount of piping hot and chunky tomato sauce are spread all around. I highly suggest cutting the eggs to let the egg yolk mix with the tomato sauce and cook a little with it. This dish doesn't have too many spices as you are really supposed to enjoy the simple flavors of the eggs and tomatoes. The falafel was excellent. Some of the best falafel I have had. So soft and moist on the inside and excellent flavors, including the little sauces they put on the plate itself. The babaganoush was good. Nothing to mind blowing from other ones I've tried around the city. Personally I don't think the quality of this that you get is worth the nine dollars that you pay. First, the good. The food here is legit: Falafel platter (8.5/10): salads were fresh, cabbage was acidic, complementing the heavy hummus/falafel well. Hummus was good, not great, needed lemon juice/spices and id prefer it to be served a bit more chilled. Falafel was very good. A tad too mushy inside (falafel insides should be a perfect hybrid between mushy and crumbly imo), but outside was crispy, flavor was great. Over all, you'd be hard pressed to find falafel that match this in the area. The falafel here is better and cheaper then Miriam across the street.... That being said, the place was a bit dirty. Napkins all over the floor, tables need to be wiped down asap. I want to start by saying that my family and I have been "regulars" at this place for at least 18 years - it's been our favourite Mediterranean spot food wise despite of rather simple interior - the place where hummus was "to die for" and 100% worth a commute from Brooklyn. My husband and I were so very looking forward to devouring delicious brunch - the usual poached eggs with eggplant for me, and eggplant Shakshuka for him. The place was half empty on a Sunday afternoon which was rather unusual - especially because restaurant right across from it - Miriam - was full to the capacity . I also noticed that staff was COMPLETELY new - no one who we knew from years back was present. When the server arrived he was very neutral, matter of fact, nothing warm or pleasant about him. I placed my order but was already feeling uneasy. When the food arrived, and i started trying my eggs which used to always be amazingly tasty, beautifully complimented by juicy thick slice of eggplant and hummus - I was shocked to realize that eggs tasted mediocre and were far from what I was expecting, and the eggplant - a thin slice of eggplant per egg - was bland and tasteless! And to make things even worse, the food arrived BARELY WARM - almost cold! The taste was 2/10 - just unbelievable! The hummus was excellent - but that was one tiny part of the large platter which was pretty much inedible! It is because of hummus I rated my experience as 2 and not 1! And side salad was all leaves - I have no idea what that even was! And so in summary: - both eggs - bland, cheap eggs hands down, no taste whatsoever. - Eggplant - undercooked, tasteless, barely present. - Food temperature - inappropriately cold further affecting the taste. - Service- below average. I am baffled because I don't know the reason behind such disappointing experience - perhaps ownership has changed or the chef - I can only keep guessing ... but it is definitely a big difference and a huge disappointment. read more

I definitely recommend splitting the hummus platter with a few people since its a lot of hummus for just 2. My favorite flavors were the tahini and mushroom. Great Hummus ! This is my first time ordering from Hummus Place. I ordered a meal yesterday around lunchtime (I was searching for affordable lunch specials). The price was excellent for the quality & portion size. I tried 1) The hummus 2) The tabouli 3) A side order of feta cheese 4) The pitas Total cost was around 20$ with free delivery & not including the tip. I loved the food! The pitas were fluffy & filling. The tabouli salad was amazing ! I created my own sandwich - I stuffed the pita with hummus, tabouli & feta cheese - then tossed some of the green sauce they sent with the order. Wow! I've been searching for great tabouli in the suburbs but so far no luck. Great food like this is one of the reasons I live in New York City. It's something I used to take for granted, prior to living elsewhere. NYC is incredibly lucky to have so many great restaurants & talented chefs.
