It was a rainy cold day in Eureka and my wife and I were warmly greeted by the owners Tera and David. Both very pleasant and help answer any questions we had. We tried their entire line up. Vodka, Gin, Rye whiskey.... But the best and most unique was the Chocolate liqueur. When we got back to the hotel added a shot (or two) to some coffee and when we got home the next day made some espresso martinis with it. Soooo good!!! I suggest visiting HCS if you're in the Eureka area during the weekend.

Sorry folks but this vodka was nasty. I had a few friends down from Oregon and up from So. Hum…read more and wanted to make it a local experience. I didn't think we grew bananas in Humboldt but this vodka tasted like bananas and imitations ones at that . We ruined a couple of martinis and cosmopolitans before we realized the off flavor was caused by the vodka.

The building is artfully and thoughtfully constructed and decorated. Amy and Steve have been incredibly welcoming and sweet. It's clear that they make a point to uplift and collaborate with other local businesses (can't get enough of that Hum Yum Boldt Bourbon caramel). They always have the coolest pop-ups with local chefs and unique cuisine. I visited Jewell Distillery on a Saturday afternoon. I made sure that the folks here were going to…read morebe around before I showed up (I attempted to visit on a weekend two years ago - and there was no one at the distillery when I attempted to visit back then). I was greeted by the resident "Distillery Dog" - I forget her name, but she was a sweetheart German Shepherd. She barked up a storm until I opened the front door, then I got some snuggles in with her. I met Barbara Jewell - one of the owners. I introduced myself and stated I had sent them an e-mail a few weeks ago - she remembered and we went from there. Unfortunately, her husband Michael, who normally conducts the tours on Saturday afternoons - was not on-site and unavailable to conduct the tour. I was disappointed that I missed out on that part of their distillery experience. So I sat with Barbara at their tasting bar and had a nice conversation with her - and tasted three of their existing spirits: Big Buddha Citron Vodka, Jewell Gin, and a Blackberry liqueur. They also have a Moon Shine, but I skipped tasting that one. The Big Buddha is rather interesting - as they utilize "Buddha's Hand" citron - a citrus-esque plant - to flavor the vodka. Never seen that before! The Jewell Gin was also nice! Strong hints of licorice/Star Anise. I enjoyed tasting all three spirits! Barbara is an absolute hoot to hang out and chat with! I very much enjoyed my visit and tasting with her! #JewellDistillery
