They are striving to open a transitional facility that will give victims and survivors housing, counseling, therapy, education, financial aid, healthcare, and childcare. Rufs is located in the St. Lucie plaza. While this plaza has seen better days, don't let the shabby exterior deter you from visiting this gem of a thrift store. Inside is a boutique like interior with tons of clothes, accessories, small appliances, and household goods. Prices are deeply discounted and everything is attractively arranged. If you have a young lady in your life in need of a formal dress for prom or homecoming, this is the place to go. Gowns which still had their hundreds of dollars price tags were marked down to $50. Another item that caught my eye was a the perfect pair of high heels for Halloween. The couple who were working the store were friendly and sweet. Come out and support this great organization while updating your wardrobe and saving money all at the same time.

I especially enjoyed my visit to St. Mary's Closet. St. Mary's Closet is on the campus of beautiful St. Mary's Episcopal Church in Stuart. The charming store has been artfully arranged by friendly volunteers. There is a main room with clothing, accessories, art, shoes, and antiques and vintage pieces. They have a dressing room area to try on clothes. There is also a smaller side room with household goods, small appliances, toys, puzzles, and men's clothing. On the day I visited everything in the store was 50 percent off except for the items like jewelry in the glass cases. I found the sweetest Portmeirion Botanic Garden Bouquet trinket box marked down to $1.50. It has beautiful butterflies and flowers on it. It is selling for over $20 on different internet sites. Meredith helped me with my sale and she was so sweet and welcoming. There are a lot of great thrift stores in Stuart and I would definitely add St. Mary's Closet to the list.

I have volunteered at this no-kill shelter for five years. I have seen this place evolve as the…read morearea grows and more animals, unfortunately, are found, abandoned, or dumped. The staff is the most amazing asset. They truly care about the homeless animals of our community. From intake to enrichment, from the Pawsitive Pantry (helping families keep their pets), the Reading to kitties program, Summer Camp, all their events to bring awareness (The Blue Jean Ball, the Golf Tournament, Whiskers in Wonderland, outdoor events), education provided (bottle-feeding kittens class), and help these fur babies get to be adopted and have a second chance--the work that goes into every animal (medical, social, TLC) is truly remarkable. Did I mention their foster and volunteering programs? I couldn't be prouder to be affiliated with HSSLC, and happy to lend my time, money, and skills to help fulfill such an important mission. Fortunately I found this fabulous thrift store from the Jensen Beach Community Church just a few doors down. Proceeds from this thrift store supports the Shepherd's Pantry providing food for those in need, a meeting home for Al Anon, Alcoholic's Anonymous & Narcotic's Anonymous, Indiantown Boys & Girls Club, and Habitat for Humanity. This thrift store is large with two long rooms filled with furniture, small appliances, linens, household goods, holiday decorations, clothing, accessories, etc.. I absolutely fell in love with a 1920's prohibition era wooden vanity that is just waiting for the right person to restore it and bring it back to life. They also had tea cups in my inherited Royal Rose pattern. Everything in the store was well organized, well priced, and in good condition. The volunteers who were working were friendly and helpful. To fund their mission, Treasure Coast Hospice operates a thrift store in Stuart which I have previously reviewed and this newer location in Port St Lucie. The store is located in a strip mall. It is one large room with racks of clothing, small pieces of furniture, household goods, collectibles, holiday items, books, small appliances, jewelry, and accessories. Everything was neat, clean, and attractively arranged. Prices were very fair and they had an additional sale on green tag clothes which were an additional 50 percent off, 50 percent off shoes, and 20 percent off pictures. If you were lucky enough to find a yellow tag clothing item, they were only $1. They had some other sales as well so that almost everything in the store was additionally discounted. I really wish I had the room for the watermelon serving dish. I also loved the little doggie creamer. They had a lot of vintage items which also caught my eye. This is a great organization which you can come out and support by shopping their stores and donating to them. Also you can help save the planet by keeping items out of the landfill. Thrifting can do a community a lot of good.

It is a charity thrift shop run by volunteers - the best kind! Not sure what this building was beforehand, but it consists of many small rooms, and they are setup with different items and themes. This makes the place fun to explore. There is a men's room, a children's room, a kitchen room, a book and records room, etc. Some notable sections: a Christmas section, a room of mostly crystal (along with a collection of wedding bells that ring), and a religious/(Catholic?) section. Some furniture have labeled drawers where inside are treasures or additional items. I found a few scarves to take home with me. Not sure how comparable the prices are locally, but it seems to be in between the cheap and the upscale.

I beg him to please sell it but he won't budge. It was not even my fault. It was theirs for not labeling item. I did not think it was fair. I don't think I would return to that particular store.

Treasure Coast Wildlife Hospital got it's start in 1974 when Jean Henry and Ruth Stanwood came to…read moreMartin County from Vermont in 1969. They had a ranch filled with animals and the Audubon Society asked Jean if she would be willing to help injured birds. That first year she helped 50 birds paying for everything herself. The number and kinds of patients increased occupying all of their time. Through the years money was raised to start a hospital and volunteers stepped in to ease the load. Although Jean and Ruth have both passed away their legacy lives on as a group of dedicated people continue their mission to aid injured wildlife. For three decades the Treasure Coast Wildlife Hospital has been helping care for sick, injured and orphaned wild animal patients, as well as providing information and education for human residents and visitors. They are a non profit corporation. All of their funding comes from privation donations or grants. Their goal is to rehabilitate and return animals to the wild. They are the only wildlife hospital serving Martin, St. Lucie, Indian River, Okeechobee, and Palm Beach counties. They care for hundreds of animals a year. Some of their patients have included bobcats, alligators, and many species of birds. Their work is especially important because around 10 percent of the animals they treat are on the endangered, threatened, or species of special concern lists. I had the opportunity to visit the hospital during their 45th annual open house on Saturday. The community was invited to explore their 300 acres and meet their wildlife ambassadors. The had live music, food, and vendors. Admission was free but I was more than happy to donate so they can keep up their mission of rescuing animals. Donations are more important than ever as the endeavor to raise enough money to build a new wildlife center. I had a great day visiting the animals and touring the facility. I hope everyone who is able to gives money to this worthy organization so they can reach their goal of a new facility that will allow them to help even more animals.
