I had never fostered or owned a dog of my own and when I saw this poor boy's picture on Instagram I wrote "I will foster him.". It didn't take long for me to fall in love with Woody, who is named after one of my father's favorite jazz musicians, Woody Herman. My problem was that I already had 3 cats and Woody wasn't about to play nice to say the least. I was afraid I wouldn't be able to keep him. I started to do research on dog trainers and found that some used harsh techniques like shock collars. Woody was already coming out of what appeared to be a violent background. People in animal rescue believed that he had possibly been used as a bait dog. The first two photos are from when he came to me. The white marks were wounds that were healing. Anyway, I asked Google for a dog trainer that could get my dog and cats to exist calmly together. Bark Busters came up in the search. I read the reviews and was impressed with the glowing reports of quick success. And I needed things to happen quickly! I called and spoke with Marc who is one of the nicest people on the planet! But the challenge was the situation with my cats. Little by little I exposed them to him and on the second visit with Marc and his wife Karen they encouraged me to go a little further and so I did. I would walk him in the house on a leash and use my "dog talk" when needed. I saw progress. Woody was kept in his crate a lot and whenever I would go out I made sure it was not only locked but would tie a leash around it in a double knot. One night when I came home he greeted me in my laundry room! I was shocked and scared. Worried about what I might be seeing as I entered the rest of my home my fears were extinguished when I found 2 of my cats on the arms of the sofa and my oldest, most feeble cat lying comfortably on the sofa! It was a miracle! This occurred one more time as "Divine Confirmation" to me that all was well and Woody now shares the house with my cats in a relatively peaceful manner. I say it that way because my cats have been more combative than him! He has had his face swiped pretty good when he's gotten too close! They actually intimidate him now and that is the last thing I thought I'd see! I'm positive this would not have occurred if I hadn't had Bark Busters training. Marc and Karen are excellent at what they do. Actually, there aren't enough words to describe their professionalism and deep understanding of animal behavior. Being in the industry, we have owned our own vet practice for 15 + years and have seen a lot of training systems. THIS is BY FAR, THE BEST approach to training we have ever witnessed. Our trainer/therapist had our pack doing exactly what was asked of them, quite literally, minutes after starting the program. There was no yelling, no angry voices, no touching or hitting of any kind. The approach is staggeringly simple. If I hadn't witnessed Marc's training in person I would never have believed it. My moms dog used to growl and snarl at everyone who walked in the room, and he was so terrified of people he never left the bedroom. After ONE session with Marc, he is a completely different dog. Not only has he stopped growing, he now stays in the living room and interacts with people. After seeing this, I immediately hired him to help with our six year old pitbull who had attachment issues and had developed bad habits like barking, sneaking food, and ignoring personal space. After one session my boy no longer jumps (you can see him start to and then think better of it). We were able to drop food on the ground without him going for it. Our baby Beagle is so sweet but lacked so many social skills. We would never hurt her and didn't want to use a cruel shock collar. We tried scolding and/or banging a newspaper or magazine on the table. We tried a louder and a softer "No" to no avail! She seemed to have a mind of her own. We knew her love of people and other animals (Her jumping) was not always well received. Even worse, she might run out of the door despite our calling her and be injured or killed by a passing car. She chewed everything and was always underfoot in the kitchen, we couldn't eat a meal without her trying to steal it. This was the greatest experience we have had with our dogs. We have two giant schnauzers who are well trained and very social. About a year ago, the younger one started fighting aggressively with the older one (2 yrs and 6 yrs). It was frightening to watch when this happened. My husband and I are thrilled to have Marc working with us and our sweet rescue dog. Bark Busters philosophy of using methods that don't hurt or frighten the dogs mirrors our own. Our Gigi was very stressed when Marc arrived. It was a problem with anybody coming to the house, and we hoped her frantic barking could be controlled. My husband and I just finished our Bark Busters training session with Marc and Karen for our two puppies Roxy and Remy, and we are BEYOND AMAZED. Before this, our puppies literally ran our house and everything we did was a battle with them. We have a one years old boxer named Walter and he has the sweetest temperament, but has some behavioral issues. He is over protective of me so is pinned to me wherever I go and has separation anxiety when I leave the house, which results in massive destruction. (ie. remote controls chewed, dog beds destroyed, anything left on the counter chewed). When someone came to the door he rushed to it and jumped on the door. We adopted a one year old Bernedoodle rescue who turned out to be riddled with anxiety, and slowly making us regret our decision by just the second week after adopting him. is almost impossible to believe that my little dog is the same dog he was before working with Marc from Bark Busters on October 14th. In part because of a terrifying experience with another dog, he had become aggressive with other dogs in the neighborhood and sometimes with people. Within a period of three hours, Marc showed Ed, my boyfriend, and me techniques to use to correct those behaviors, resulting in what I can only describe as a miraculous transformation. The techniques do not involve corporal punishment or using treats; they simply show Charlie by our stance and firm commands what we expect. Both we and Charlie learned them and started using them while Marc was here. For about 24 hours, Charlie seemed a little bummed out by the new rules, but that passed very quickly. We have a 1.5 yr old pit bull mix who was becoming increasingly dog aggressive and terrible on a leash. I even stopped taking him to the dog park for fear he would injure another dog. Our walks usually turned into a jog because I was so tired of tugging on the collar and choking him. Marc is truly a miracle worker. I am very satisfied with the results. I had a defiant dog who was completely out of control and Marc's methods truly work if you STICK to the plan. He left me a plan each week to follow, and both of my dogs are amazing. He turned my timid dog into a confident pooch and made my aggressive 105 lb rottweiler who bit someone in the past an obedient little angel who waits for my command before doing ANYTHING. Yesterday I had Marc from Bark Busters come to our home to begin training our 3 dogs - a 4 year old Plott Hound Lab Mix, a 13 year old Basset Hound Cockerspaniel Mix, and a 2 year old Puerto Rican Street Dog (Mutt) - whom we just adopted at the end of May. Although 2 of them were great - they were not trained the way they should have been and then bringing a 3rd into the mix who came off the streets we really needed help. The proper training techniques that Marc gave us during just the 1st visit really make me feel this will work. Last night was our first time testing out new boundries, etc. and this morning it was still working. Also, walking them (1 at a time) was wonderful - zero pulling on the leash and when I did a specific command as the bicycle rider went by - my dog just sat and watched - that was amazing. We rescued Rico last October. He was off the streets of Miami and in pretty bad shape. Thanks to the kindness of two strangers he was brought to Paws Fur Recovery who took great care of him, nursing back to health. It took Rico some time to adjust to being a family member for the first time in his young life. Maizy is a 16 month goldendoodle & Bentley is a 9 week Bernedoodle! Bentley will eventually be trained to be my daughter's emotional support dog, but first we have to get Maizy under control, so Bentley will start off on the right path! We adopted a bonded pair of two year old boxers who are full of energy. With ten grandchildren who visit often we had to gain control of the dogs' behavior, and fast. Marc and Karen came to my home to work with my two pups, Rosie and Midnight. I adopted Rosie 3 years ago and ever since I have not been able to take her on a peaceful walk. We had our training a few days ago and I am still confused and shocked as to how my four dogs completely fixed their behaviors in less than one hour. Since training, the dogs have gotten better everyday. We had no peace in our house due to barking dogs. After adopting our dog Hailey, she had grown increasingly aggressive towards other dogs to the point where I would get extremely anxious before walking her. When we'd see a dog 60 feet away, I'd bolt in the other direction. Just three hours with Marc taught us to be better leaders and learn to discipline Hailey in a way that showed her she never had to worry about another dog again. Marc provided great insight into the world of dogs, and how to communicate with our dog in an effective way.
