We stopped in pre-flight to treat our family for making a 5-hour round-trip trek to get us to the airport. Mongolian BBQ has been a family fav for decades, in CA, so we were thrilled Bismarck had one. We like the food choices and no Canola, and the choose-your-own ingredients fun. We love the sauces and all of the fresh ingredients, as well as the frozen, thin-sliced protein choices. We wish the seafood offerings were better--bigger scallops, not tilapia, and maybe shrimp. Maybe real crab would be asking too much. The real surprise was dessert, won-ton stuffed with cherries and cheese. And good coffee. Our server Riley was super-sweet, and had a quiet sense of humor. The food is average as you make your own bowl. Some ingredients such as the pad Thai noodles are very hard to put into the bowl and keep everything else inside. They do have a good selection of proteins and vegetables to add. The service was great. my server was very polite and always making sure I had what I needed. I was impressed by the amount of options they have, and the place was nice and clean. The food is good, you can make it as spicy and flavorful or as mild and bland as you like. We got HuHot to go as we had our pup with us and couldn't stay to eat. There were many many options so it was really up to you to figure out what you wanted in terms of veggies, rice, noodles, meat, etc. I love that the sauce bar had lots of recipe recommendations for you to decide from. It was very popular when we had stopped in to grab lunch and seemed like a hot spot! If possible, I would suggest actually eating there instead as its AYCE. If you've not had Mongolian barbecue, you're missing out though calling it barbecue is a stretch. Here's how it works. Fill your bowl with raw goodies from the buffet line. Several different frozen meats including sliced chicken and sliced beef and pork plus sausage and krab. Add noodles if you wish. Then add the veggies you like, which here include onions and peppers and watercress and scallions and broccoli and mushrooms and more. When you've completely filled your bowl (you can press it down to put more in if you're careful), step over to the sauce bar where you can add Mongolian Mustard and Hoisin and Sriracha and ginger and garlic and some others. Three or four full scoops are ideal. When you're all done with that, step up to the grill and hand over your bowl to the chef. They pour it all out on a very hot disk, turning and turning your stuff until it's properly cooked. It's scooped back into a bowl (a fresh one this time) and you're headed back to your table to enjoy. Lunch time special includes unlimited bowls. Two words - go hungry. This was recommended to me by a co-worker who knows I have an appetite. Quick word to the wise, Tuesday is kids eat free, so if you have kids, great, if not...well, make your own decision. Appetizers and desserts seem like an afterthought when you have unlimited, 100% customized bowls (they have some recipe suggestions if you are having a hard time deciding) of freshly grilled meat and veg. This place is as healthy as you want it to be with portion size and calorie information on every offering. Make your own bowl, top with whatever sauces you desire, hand it off to the proficient and noticeably hard working grill masters, and you will be eating before you know it. This is probably the best Mongolian grill and the only chain in North Dakota. The lines are never too long. They could clean up the buffet line a little bit. People are friendly especially the cooks. I'd been to their other location in Rapid City SD when I was on another cross country roadtrip a year ago. Because of that great experience I was glad to run into this location. They have a good selection of high quality food at reasonable prices & their grill chefs are fantastic. I have one complaint though...that they don't have locations in Northern California. Ok, specifically in my town. We have a rival franchise & while it's not bad, it's not quite as good as HuHot. Also, as we were leaving I took pics of the most amazing sunset. Today, my family and I went out to dinner at the Bismarck HuHot location. Somehow, a small rock pebble made its way onto my plate and ended up chipping my molar tooth. I informed my server who informed her manager, Jason Locken, of the incident. Mr. Locken came to my table and started giving his "insurance spiel" to me. After Mr. Locken apologized and handed over his business card and insurance agency, I hoped to have my meal compensated for my trouble. Unfortunately, this did not happen. We soon left with a half-hearted, "These things happen, thanks for coming," from Mr. Locken. As a reoccurring patron of HuHot, I am disappointed in how the management handled my situation. Although Jason Locken did what was legally expected of the restaurant, he could have done a little more to demonstrate the apology was sincere. I wasn't able to finish my meal and will be taking pain medicine for at least a week until I can see my dentist. A small act of kindness on behalf of the HuHot management would have gone a long way. Instead, I will now think twice before suggesting to dine at this particular HuHot establishment. read more

Who knew that I could love the food so much, yet hate the service I recieve! I usually do a veggie stir fry with green peppers, carrots, mushrooms and often other randoms as well. The Samuri Teriyaki sauce is vegan and one of my favorites - and I usually ladel on quite a bit of soy sauce and garlic broth. YUM! HuHot is really good about cleaning their grills between people but you can specically ask them to use clean utensils for you if you are a veg. My complaint as I've mentioned earlier is the staff. Last time we went there a server never even came to our table at all. I had to stop a manager that was walking by to bring us rice and salads. Or the servers forget one thing or another and don't come back the whole meal. I have been so frustrated. But honestly, the good food makes up for it. No complaints. YUM. read more

I thought this would be like a Genghis Grill (super fresh produce and delicious) but it was actually like the Golden Corral version of a Genghis Grill. I would much rather not select ANY stars! I definitely don't recommend this Bismarck HuHot location AT ALL!! I have been to MANY HuHot locations and have always been greeted by friendly staff. This location has the WORST GM or District Manager...Whichever Jason L. decides he is for that day. I have had Gastric Bypass and he refused to give me a simple Togo box for the food I was unable to finish because I didn't have a "card". I lifted up my shirt showing my lower stomach and all my scars and he didn't give a crap. I only went up once and even got less food than normal people when they go up. With a bypassed stomach I am unable to eat anywhere near the amount of food as a normal person. Jason L. (Either the General Manager or District Manger) Who in the hell knows is VERY UNPROFESSIONAL and has an "authority complex"...Maybe he should get back in the kitchen washing dishes where he belongs!! Seriously the kindest staff ever! Quick service! And so many delicious options. I didn't expect much really going in, but have left every single time super satisfied and pleased. We come in with four children from three to 11 and every one of them eats. That just never happens anywhere else! They love to make their own concoctions and watch it be cooked. I am a huge hu hot fan. Every place I go or time I see one I stop in when I travel. Imagine my excitement when I found one is balmy Bismarck. I was quickly disappointed. This is the worst franchisee store and should be investigated by hu hot. The service terrible. I had to stop a waitress after 20 minutes. The noodles were slimy, warm to the touch (food poisoning risk)?, they were missing some vegetables I am use to (also not chilled), and they water down their sauces to the point they have no taste. 10 ladles and all I had was soup I was scared to eat with no flavor. read more
