Very poor communication. We had Hughes servicing both our office and home. They were our service provider for years. When we found out we had rats in our attic we hired Hughes to remove the rats. When you sign up for the service they offer a warranty which costs 200 per year. We paid as instructed. We sold our office and cancelled the service. Whomever we spoke with didnt only cancel the office but also cancelled our home. Of course we didnt realize Hughes was not showing up any longer. So in November of 2025 I called in because I heard something in the attic. This is when I was informed my contract was cancelled. Long story shoto it is February and Im still in limbo after many calls for a resolution. Also the wildlife division is horrible with communications. I would look for another pest control company. read more

I've been a customer of Hughes Exterminators in Tampa for over six years, and they've consistently provided reliable and professional pest control service. They come out to treat both the interior and exterior of my home on a quarterly basis. I really appreciate their communication--I always receive a text or phone call the day before letting me know when they'll be in my neighborhood, since they service several homes in the area. One of the things I value most is the familiarity and consistency--I usually see the same technician, which builds trust and makes it easy to communicate any concerns. On the rare occasion that someone else comes out, they're always professional and courteous. The current rate is $87 per quarter, billed automatically to my credit card every three months. The price has gone up slightly over the years, but it's still very reasonable for the peace of mind they provide. A major plus is their free follow-up service--if I ever notice an issue between scheduled treatments (which is rare), they'll send someone out at no additional cost. When I first started with them, I may have signed a short-term contract, but for the past several years I've been on a flexible, no-contract basis, which I love. Overall, Hughes Exterminators are easy to reach, dependable, and communicative. I haven't had my home sprayed in YEARS. Each time the exterminator sets a day and time he doesn't show, yet I get billed for a full extermination. Why schedule if you're going to show up whenever you want anyway and then say you can only do the front of the gate, the furthest point away from the home. Waste of money. If I could I'd leave ZERO STARS. Won't be using again. read more

In a very quick turnaround, pest control and termite control service persons were on site and efficiently and effectively completed their tasks. No mess - no clean up needed. Due to our home inspector hired Hughes himself. Other home inspector's hired the company and paid themselves with what we payed them. Hughes told me before they left I had a neighbor that he had been out to inspect some 3 months ago that had a nasty termite problem, but due to HIPPA he could not tell me which neighbor. BUT... he'd be happy to protect our new home for $685.00 just to make sure we stayed termite free. Just makin an extra buck. The billing person, I am guessing the wife, sent the bill ( which we were not expecting) to the home that we were considering buying. We never received it till we moved in a month later. first of all why would you send a bill where I may live and not to my home? Then call after that and become very nasty and aggressive on the phone. Totally unnecessary should she have done her job properly! Never ever would I call these people for anything! read more

DO NOT USE Hughes Exterminators for your lawn treatment/fertilization company! They damaged my entire lawn and permanently caused damage to one area of my lawn. They also permanently damaged an area of my neighbor's lawn who had to re-sod the damaged area! I contracted with another lawn fertilization company for a few years who had transformed my lawn into a healthy, plush, green lawn. At the beginning of this year, Hughes Exterminators bought that company. After they treated my lawn for the first time, my lawn immediately started to deteriorate. By the next day, it was obvious my lawn looked unhealthy, turning brown and with dirt spots appearing. With each subsequent treatment, my lawn continued to get worse. The color change and unhealthy appearance was clearly noticeable, including by my neighbors, at my property lines with my neighbor's lawns on both sides of my property. Also, I am a person who takes a team approach to maintain my lawn with the recommendations from the company lawn people including watering, adding topsoil, when necessary, etc. and have been doing so for years. The Hughes Exterminators technician sent for the initial treatment informed me Hughes Exterminators purchased the previous lawn company and then treated my lawn and the problems started immediately. Once I realized my lawn had been damaged, I called Hughes Exterminators and asked for immediate assistance. They informed me they would assign me one of their most experienced technicians. This technician, from the first time treating my lawn and on subsequent service visits, repeatedly told me he was the best and most knowledgeable lawn technician and had experience for over 20 years. He also continued to criticize and speak negatively of many lawn fertilization company technicians and lawn fertilization companies on each service visit. This included criticizing the technician from the previous company who had successfully transformed my lawn. He continually told me to be patient, that he would make my lawn better, and to put topsoil in the newly formed dirt spots (which I did). Each monthly treatment continued to deteriorate my lawn. I called Hughes Exterminators again and again for assistance including requesting a service manager to visit. The service manager visited and stated I was doing everything right and did not have an answer on fixing this problem other than stating they would treat it with a "new" fertilizer. I expected this new fertilizer would be applied immediately however, that did not happen until a couple of weeks later. Once again, I called Hughes Exterminators and they agreed to send their agricultural specialist. I also noticed that one section of my lawn which previously had primarily St Augustine grass growing had died and was dying and being taken over by torpedo grass and crabgrass. I had never had crabgrass in any area of my lawn since living in my house for almost 10 years (original owner) and never had any torpedo grass in this area. The agricultural specialist did visit and inspected my lawn and applied a liquid and granular applications to my entire lawn. By the next day, my lawn looked even worse causing lawn, that was previously green, to turn brown and die - it looked "burnt". I called and ended the contract. However, they came for one last time for a treatment and mistakenly started to treat my neighbor's lawn. My neighbor stopped the technician after only treating a small area. Within a day, that area of the lawn turned brown. He subsequently had to replace it with new sod! I contracted with new lawn company. Their representatives confirmed that my lawn had been improperly managed and fertilized. These bad actions caused the damage including being burnt and causing the crabgrass and torpedo grass growth. Further reinforcing this, after one treatment, my lawn immediately looks significantly better including a healthy green color with many of the dirt spots filling in appropriately. read more

After posting my review and canceling my lawn care service I received a certified letter from Hughes Exterminators informing me they have a right to remove the Sentricon bait stations from my property. I had not responded to them three days after receiving the letter because I needed to locate my original contract for termite control and I believed the service was paid in full through October. Today I received a call from a technician working for Hughes who explained he was at my home for scheduled removal of the termite bait stations. So it's unbelievable to me that instead of management taking steps to repair the damage areas of my lawn or crediting me for lawn care services that were negligent, their only response was to take away another service that I paid up front through October. The manager chose sending a certified letter requiring me going to the post office and also caused an interruption during my work day today for no reason. A renewal notice for termite prevention services should have been sent in October explaining bait stations removal would be scheduled if service was not renewed. I should not have been pushed to agree to have the bait stations removed months before my prepaid service contract was fulfilled. My experience with this company was poor. read more

Having a couple rental properties, ive used Hughes over the years in both Tampa and Pinellas. I was reminded today of how valuable the Hughes relationship can be. Ira, a very experienced professional did my new home inspection. He checked nooks where frankly most general home inspectors dont take time to examine. Depending on who you speak with at the company you get different story. Family had a personal situation that required relatively immediate service but company could not accommodate nor did it try. This company is not only bad, it's engaging in fraud. I asked to discontinue services because they are required to get my permission before they go on site. It's a rental property. They are charging me for services never provided. I have cameras on the property and they were not there. Furthermore, I never let them inside to complete services, nor did my tentants. I cancelled my service in October with a "final payment" notice on my check. They keep billing me. I now need to figure out which government agency to report them to. The woman who answered the phone was nice, but they never got back to me. I asked for an email confirmation of cancellation and that I would not be billed. It never happened. I had them for almost two years. They would show up and bill me for services that they never completed. My cameras showed the tech never getting out of his vehicle. During my sign up, I was told my service would be one thing. When the renewal for the second year came, they didn't honor it. I also tried to have my second year walk through done five different times and they never would show up. It is the worst customer service I have ever had. Even when I talked to a manager, nothing was ever fixed. The only positive thing about Hughes was the lady in the office, Leeann. She was sweet. The rest of the experience was HORRID. read more

Had an issue with German roaches. Called Hughes. 2 treatments, should be done. Nope. I am seeing exactly what I had before. I'm very clean. I clean my cupboards weekly, still dropping & 3 bugs per day. William (sales rep) stated they would make it right & have his guy make arrangements to come back out. 2 weeks, no word. They are the worst to deal with! Called in October to stop service for fire ant control as I called two weeks prior for a problem had fire ants. No one ever called me back after they told me someone would contact me with 72 hours. Nope two weeks later I call and tell them cancel all services due to them not attending to my concern and respray or come look. Then they ask if someone can come out today would I stay I said no! Never a apology or anything. I called the district manager still didn't make it right just listened! So a month later when services were due they came out and sprayed without permission they never canceled it with the technician. So I call as soon as I get home and tell them I canceled service and I'm not paying for the mistake of them not following through. I said I will not pay! The next day I see they charged my debit card for service I call immediately and said ok I'll have the business manager change it. I had this company for 8 yrs was ok until original technician quit. We called Hughes in April of 2018 because of rats in our garage. After an inspection, we found that rats were also in our attics. The technician, Justin, was very knowledgeable and thorough in closing up entry points and getting rid of their access. This type of exterminating is not cheap, but I found it was well worth it for peace of mind. Hughes did a great job and I would recommend them! read more
