I'm grateful for the opportunity to serve the community while also representing an organization dedicated to service. I also want to give a special shout-out to the St. Mary's Food Bank staff for their exceptional organization and warm welcome. Joseph, in particular, was fantastic. He made the experience lighthearted while still keeping us in line (pun not intended) and he even took song requests from Prince Fans (Purple Rain). Thank you to the entire St. Mary's team for all you do, and for providing opportunities that not only support the community, but also help other teams grow stronger together. Sincerely, a visiting Minnesotan.

I once lived in a bountiful where an immense freezer could be filled with earth's goodness of vegetables and fruits for a small expense in miles and cash. Not that easy in Arizona. The freezer was donated to St. Mary's - and welcomed. We keep our pantry stocked. When the "Best By" dates geow near on pantry goods, they are donated to St. Mary's and refreshed. I want to contribute quality to those less blessed than I have been. And, St. Mary's, being a religious organization charity, blesses families, and individuals with the foundation of living - food. A good value for all.

First of all, I understand the need for food banks--the last statistic I heard is that 1 in 3 children goes hungry here in Maricopa County. That fact is heart breaking and I know that there are a lot of generous folks out there who contribute via the postal drive, food drives, and other methods. What I DIDN'T know was how the process worked; how the food was distributed and how clients were notified. Our little team bagged over 25 tons of food, hygiene items, and kibble in 6 hours and it was a huge undertaking that left me sore for the rest of the week ;) In meeting and talking with key staff members, I was so taken by their passion for this cause and by the respect shown to the folks they serve. Food insecurity is stressful enough without having one's dignity insulted and it did my heart good to see folks smiling as they selected the products going into their food boxes. They had personal shoppers AND got their groceries unloaded for them too. Desert Mission also partners with Crooked Sky Farms to introduce fresh produce into the mix. There were some gorgeous veggies available, along with treats for the little folks. All in all, it was a really eye opening experience. I am already looking for other ways I can help the deserving organization. Check them out!

After…read moreshowing great concern about a young child that was clearly not being supervised by an adult, I was denied a food box. I was denied by the supervisor stating that I had already received food twice this month. I am NOT a food stamp recipient, in fact I was on the phone with DES at the time that I was called up and informed him of that fact. I am attempting to help my family any way I can. The supervisor denied us even an emergency food box. The heartless guy referred me to St. Mary's Food Bank which is many miles away from Desert Mission (where I was after having waited in line), even more miles away from my home. End result, I was unable to drive the extra 10+ miles to get to St. Mary's. I have very little gas, absolutely no money and a bald tire (very unsafe to make that trip). My family will go hungry this evening and this completely unacceptable. If the option of ZERO stars were available, that's what my review would firmly be after this inappropriate conduct.

I googled Bird Sanctuary near me and Liberty Wildlife Rehab popped up. Luckily they were open until 6, so we were able to make it over there. We took our little baby birdie to the rescue window. The kindest lady came and placed him in a little box and then took him back to a baby bird nursery room. She came back and she was just so sweet and I knew the little bird would be just fine with these people. In the area behind here she had huge rescued birds behind her. 3 were vultures. And 3 other huge birds were there too just hanging out on there perches. No cages just chilling. And then a goat came up outside the window, to peek in and say hello. Just a wonderful place, where I am going to be donating to monthly so they can keep up their good work and continue to keep there Rescue Intake Window open!! Please visit their website and Pop by to visit the amazing grounds and bring your kids. It is truly beautiful.

Today we are focusing on specific overseas underserved villages and dietary needs of the children. Parking 5/5 Abundance of private parking Facilities 5/5 Very impressive building, large well suited for Feeding My Starving Children's mission. Teams which can be families, business teams etc may sigh-up in advance to be scheduled to participate in a meaningful and needed service for fighting hunger. Our day began in their Large group welcome and information room. Run by a great orator of their organization we learned what we were going to do and who would be receiving the product of our labor. Very nicely done! Surrounding this great room was the organizations special store. Items available for purchase were made in many of the countries they serve. Packing room 5/5 After dawning head and facial hair nets and gloves we were organized in sub team groups to a specific job. Activities/Effort 5:/5 in the progressive line from bulk dry food products to measuring, funnel dumping into bags to scale to add or remove product to meet bag weight requirements the to a sealing operation and final case building and taping. Teamwork 5:5 There must have been 8-10 teams with ~14 a team in a fun and motivational competition to maximize the Total food each two hour shift could produce. I enjoyed how our team with some ASU students developed teamwork that was flexible. Event take-away 10/5 Facts about food shortages and malnutrition are real. Child development is impacted both physically and psychologically. There are nations like ours who have organizations like Feed My Starving Children who have the networks, logistics, raw food based sources that utilize nutritional targets with environmentally stable ingredients. What we were shown today is the manual labor needed to meet the output requirements to feed those in need can be accomplished by organizing people of all colors, creeds and religions come together to serve a common goal, Feeding Starving Children. Everyone can benefit from moving out of your comfort zone by sacrificing 2-4 hrs to serve others, and to send a fundamental message to those around the world of Hope and Love through food. And in the process lean how you can work well with others from a wide spectrum of society for a higher cause. Get your families, work colleagues neighbors etc together and have fun helping! Be humble and gracious to others my friends-SYOY!

Only thing I suggest is maybe don't have a quiet person in the warehouse explaining how to do things without a mic- could barely hear her over the chatter of other groups and just static of the air. The introduction went smooth, warehouse is my favorite!!! Lots of moving around, heavy lifting, and quick thinking. This is a great organization to be part of if you want to volunteer, especially for a Christian business! They offer anyone who wants, to pray over the food boxes at the end of your shift (optional) they also have a "gift shop" which is all around you as you come in, so you can purchase goods made in other countries and know the labor is being fairly paid for! Everything priced well! 29¢ is what it takes to make one meal for a child, so every donation is significant, no matter how small! They're based off donations and don't take any assistance from the government, so any type of support you can give them is appreciated ! Attached is a picture of our ending numbers
