The bedrooms were on separate sides to give us some nice privacy. I loved the peaceful closed in porch and we used the fire pit outside at night. The bathrooms were nice and clean and I was surprised there was a washer and dryer if we needed! I also liked that it was dog friendly for an extra $20/night fee. That was pricey in my opinion but I can understand, as some people's dogs aren't well behaved. The only small things that weren't perfect, is that there was some kind of beeping by the fireplace so when we sat at the dining room table to eat or work on our laptops, it was kinda annoying and we couldn't figure out what it was from or how to stop it. Next, there wasn't anywhere to walk or go for a run right from the cabin. But there are trails nearby you can drive to and the views on the drives were pretty to see. We had a great weekend, there's so much stuff to do and explore in the area. This cabin was big for 2 people so if you have a group this is a good size. All the bedrooms are on different sides so there is a lot of privacy for each person or couple.

It had snowed in the region just a day earlier, but the gravel roads were plowed and was a non-issue even in our 2WD car. The appearance of the cabin is new, simple, and cozy. We had six adults staying in the cabin for a long weekend. There was more than enough space for all of us, the hot water was also never an issue. There are also nice subtle touches too. Simple things like Tupperware to save our meals was available for use during our stay. The hot tub was great, even with outside temperatures near 5F to 10F degrees. The cabin also had a nice flat screen wall mounted TV and a great stereo system (with iPhone capability mount). The interaction with the owner was always pleasant and simple. The bottom line: This is a great place to stay if you want a simple weekend in a nice place, with beautiful views!

Deer Forest Lodge with Lion Crow Cabins was available. Even without any Yelp reviews we booked it because we had limited options and it was close to SRO. This is the nicest cabin we have ever stayed in!! It was clean and had literally almost everything you would need for an extended stay (except toiletries, which you should bring). We were able to grill, roast marshmallows, play cornhole, board games, and watch TV to relax after a long day on the river. Bernie, the site manager was amazing!! Based on the guest book, this particular cabin opened April of 2016. I debated whether to be the first to write a review or to keep this as our little secret, but I think that they deserve the business because it is clear that Lion Crow Cabins is working hard to make a stay in the Shenandoah a great experience! First, the positives: the location was beautiful and very accessible to hiking, wine tasting and several other great summer outdoor activities. The actual house is nice and very spacious. The negatives: the place was FILTHY. As a family, we decided to tolerate the filth so we wouldn't ruin our family vacation, but as the week went on, it became more and more annoying to accept how dirty it was. After our week-long stay, I contacted the owners and forwarded them a list of issues we found as well as photographs to document the condition of the house. We made it clear that we were not asking for any money back (although if we pushed the issue, I certainly think we would have been entitled to it). I also raised an issue with their ridiculous policy for the OCCUPANTS to wash and fold all of the linens before a noon departure on Sunday, which is totally unrealistic. This policy forces occupants to get up extra early on their last day of vacation to do something a paid employee should be doing. After the second attempt to contact the owner, the response she provided was that she forwarded my email to the cleaning lady. No apology. And No indication that she really plans to address it in the future. For this reason, I am giving it a one star rating. If she had sent back a different response, I would probably be giving it at least a two star rating. If cleanliness of the property is important to you, this place will not be satisfactory. List of issues: - Beds were unmade and the sheets were from the previous occupants (ewww) - I swept a large pile of dirt in one of the back bedrooms my grandmother was staying in - Mouse dropping in the back bedroom - Spider webs in closet - Overgrown lawn - Dirty stove, oven, toaster and refrigerator - Dirt, chips and crumbs in the couches - Hot tub smelled like urine and several jets were broken - Ashes in the fireplace - Mildewed towels in the linen closet (my Mom took all of the linens, washed, folded and put them away because previous renters put away wet towels, due to the ludicrous cleaning policy -- but made the entire closet really stink) - Dog hair on the linens and couches, even though the owner claimed her grandchildren are deathly allergic to pet hair - Remote controls did not operate - Playhouse (pictures on the website) was a mess and had a lot of dead bugs and spiderwebs - There was uneaten popcorn in the popcorn maker. My Dad spent at least 30 mins scrubbing it out before we could use it

Unfortunately management at Lewis Cabins have taken the rustic concept waaaaay too far. The cabins have no no television, no Wi-Fi. Not even air conditioning. Frankly I was almost surprised that they had running water. When discussed the primitive accommodations with the management, they said that their basic nature was clear on their website and that most guests are campers that just want to get in out of the weather, or repeat customers who know what to expect. (They did acknowledge that the cabins get pretty hot in the summer with no A/C.) For almost $200/night, I cannot imagine a camper staying there. As to repeat customers, I just have to say that I will NOT be among their ranks. To those who are regulars, I hope you enjoy your night in the 18th Century.

You get your own little deck to sit out in a marvel at the nature around you. Honestly there is nothing like waking up in the morning and being surrounded by peaceful woods everywhere you go. This is a great place to be if you want to camp without completely roughing it out in the elements. We stayed ONE night, and I seriously wish we stayed. Worth a repeat trip!

When I returned, I found a copy of the 1939 Hardy Boys book The Twisted Claw lying in the driveway. This edition contains racist language and stereotypes that many people find deeply offensive, and as someone with an interracial family and two young children, finding it on the property was extremely disturbing. I immediately contacted TripForth and asked them to help me get in touch with the property owner so the Ring camera footage could be reviewed to determine how the book ended up in the driveway. TripForth refused to provide the owner's contact information or facilitate direct communication. I also requested a refund so my family could relocate to a property where we felt more comfortable, but that request was denied. To make matters worse, there doesn't appear to be a way to speak directly with TripForth customer service. Every call I made was handled through a relay or messaging service, making it impossible to have a direct conversation with someone who could address my concerns or make decisions. The lack of accessible customer support only added to an already frustrating experience. Regardless of how the book got there, I was disappointed by TripForth's handling of the situation. I expected them to take my concerns seriously and work toward a reasonable resolution. Instead, I felt dismissed and left without options while traveling with my family. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend TripForth, and I will not be booking through them again.

Our group of 20 was scheduled to stay during the severe winter storm in Virginia in late January, when the state had declared a state of emergency and roads were widely reported as impassable. For safety reasons, we did not attempt the trip and never stepped foot in the property. Despite these extraordinary circumstances, TripForth refused to issue a refund or even offer a credit toward a future stay. As a result, we lost over $2,000 for two nights at a house we could not safely reach. While weather is uncontrollable, management's response was entirely within their control--and they chose to show zero flexibility, empathy, or consideration for guest safety. For a large family group, this was an extremely costly and frustrating experience. I strongly caution future guests: if anything goes wrong, do not expect reasonable communication or accommodation from this management company.
