This was my first experience dealing with a realty company for an apartment rental and I have to say I was not impressed.
I inquired online about a couple of properties in Covington and was contacted by Joy Amann, who in turn apparently referred my request to Lynn Kearns. After making arrangements to see these properties, Ms. Kearns failed to contact me to let me know that they had been rented before our appointment and then failed to show up on the day of our appointment. Her manner on the phone when I called to find out why she had not arrived for the appointment left much to be desired.
Below is the email I sent to Ms. Amann letting her know about my experience. Since I have yet to receive any sort of response from anyone, I decided to post this on Yelp:
Dear Joy,
First, thank you again for checking with me to see if I had been contacted about the properties on E. 4th and Philadelphia Street. I appreciate the follow up.
I've actually found another apartment, but I wanted to let you know about my experience with realtor, Lynn Kearns, who contacted me regarding these two properties.
Ms. Kearns initially called me Tuesday of last week. I returned the call the next day and left a message asking if specific dates and times would work for a showing. I asked that she either leave a voice mail if I couldn't answer since I was at work, or if she could email me. I didn't receive another call or an email, so I called again the next day and we spoke on the phone to confirm an appointment. At that point, she mentioned that she emailed me, but I never received an email. At the time, this wasn't a problem because I did manage to reach her by phone.
Ms. Kearns set up an appointment for us to meet yesterday, the 24th, at 6pm. We were to meet at 25 E. 4th Street. After waiting until about 6:15pm, I called Ms. Kearns to find out why she wasn't at the property. She then informed me that both properties were already leased and that she didn't have my phone number to contact me. She then said that she was hoping I would call her, or that I would have called to confirm our appointment some time during the week, and she could have told me that the properties were spoken for. There was no apology for the lack of communication. She said something to the effect of setting up a future time to look at other properties, but that there wasn't much available right now "in that same caliber."
Quite frankly, I don't understand how Ms. Kearns didn't have my contact information. She claimed to have emailed me last week and she obviously had my phone number since she called me last Tuesday. I had no reason to call and confirm the appointment since we spoke on the phone and confirmed it. From our conversation yesterday, it appears that she knew these properties were leased some time in advance of our scheduled appointment, so I'm disappointed and more than a little annoyed that she failed to contact me as both my boyfriend and I arranged to leave work early for this appointment.
Overall, I feel that an effort was not made to provide good service. These were the last two properties we had planned to view before making our selection. Luckily, we had another option to fall back on, but I can see this would have been an even bigger inconvenience for someone who did not.
Thank you,
Lesley D.
All in all, I've had much better luck contacting people on Craigslist regarding apartments for rent. I have to say I am dismayed by the lack of professionalism from this realty company representative. When I decide to purchase a home, I definitely will have to think twice about using Huff. read more
