I had some crazy colors in my hair; a purple stain that turned bright green and blue, and she was able to make me a beautiful brunette! She even gave me some rad rockin Joan Jett bangs! Flash forward to now as I'm attempting to go back to a bleached blonde and she does it again! I entered hue color lab with some crazy brassy red orange blonde (not done by Kristen) and left with as an amazing blonde! It only took her 30 minutes and I don't feel like an orangsicle any more! Kristen does my hair and she is AMAZING!! Aside from the salon's impeccable style and chill vibes, Diego and Kristen are so great at what they do. They are a wonderful team and I can honestly say that they know hair. I get a Keratin treatment every 3 months there for my crazy frizzy course hair. It has made my life SO much easier and helped my hair be much more manageable. It's so much easier to style and I love the way it looks. Kristen also did an amazing job on my ombre. I was afraid to go light because I wanted to stay natural but I have very dark hair. I was super pleased with the end result. It was a perfect mix of warm blonde and carmel in my dark hair. Kristen was great to talk to and made my overgrown waist length mermaid hair come back to life just in time for my wedding this past July. She then sent my now-husband to Diego for a men's cut for a new, clean-cut look for the wedding. Diego made my husband Nick look sooo sharp with a new Gentleman's Cut! I think I fell in love with him all over again. Since then, I've been back to Kristen to cut a lot of length off after the wedding and Nick has returned to Diego for a new style. I saw Diego Ortega for over five years. I looked forward to my hair appointment, as any girl does! In any scenario, we spill the beans to our hairstylists. I always considered our relationship to be purely professional. He'd always tell me how beautiful I was and it never felt uncomfortable. Right before the 2020 pandemic shut down, we drank wine. We usually always drink wine. But we did in excess, as anyone would in shock of the life changing events of our world. I lost both of my jobs. It was the first time I felt uncomfortable with his comments. I just let it go because, well I lost both of my jobs and my future was the scariest thing to even fathom. In the short reopening hair stylists had, he was able to get me in. I'm always scheduled as his last client. Now I know the reasoning. That day he said he drank champagne with his last client. We of course had a fun appointment as always. I truly enjoyed Diego's company just as my hair stylist. Unfortunately, as he was doing my hair and also drinking copious amounts of wine; he told me how unhappy he is with his wife. As a client, it made me slowly uncomfortable with our session. Was I supposed to leave mid appointment? I acted normal and genuine so I could leave. When I got out of the chair he proceeded to kiss me intensely. He also restrained me so I couldn't get out. All of his blinds were drawn (sign #1) I tried to get out multiple times. I finally was able to get out because I started screaming. This was not consensual. He has a wife, two boys and one daughter. Diego Ortega is lucky I didn't press charges against his cosmetology license or notify his wife of many years of his infidelity. This whole situation broke my heart because I cared and trusted Diego. He's not a bad hair stylist, he's just lost. read more

The only person allowed to touch my hair is Diego. He's a genius. My Asian head has been blonde, purple, fire engine red, pink, and caramel and it all looks good. I have long, long hair that is half wavy and half straight and Diego's the only one who has ever been able to cut it just so, so that I can let it air dry and it just falls into these perfect beachy waves. I've also worked with Diego on photo shoots and he is great with bridal hair on wedding days. I even had him do my hair for a mud run once, haha. I have been going to Diego for my hair for the past 12 years! He has grown to be more than just my hair stylist. He is someone with great character and integrity that I know if I ever needed help with anything I could count on him. Who knew my hair stylist would become a friend! I love that he knows me, I will come in with an idea of what I want to do to switch the hair up, and he will just flat out say noooo that wont work for you. Its great that he is honest and has his clients best interest. I always get compliments on my hair. He is great with blondes. In fact, years ago, i ventured out and died my hair brunette with a different stylist, and instantly regretted it. I called Diego and he got my back to my normal blonde in one visit! basically the Guru of hair! And the wine offering and occasional cookies/candy is always a plus! Room is a bit small but makes the experience more intimate. its not like an assembly line of people trying to turn and burn hair styles. He takes his time and is well worth it. The other stylist Kristen is a gem! she is so funny, although i think she has her own room now, she visits so you will probably see her! I was able to call and get an appointment the very same day with Diego, a true professional. His background is very impressive and you know you are in good hands when he looks at you and is able to determine a cut that is most suitable for your face shape. Honestly, I had pretty much given up hope on getting my curly hair cut & colored the way I always wanted. Thought for sure that with the 5 star rating, these guys were up to something and begging their loyal clients to post reviews or something. Nope--Kristen's the real deal. Reasonably priced, skilled color and cut. They're in the Phenix Salon Suites in the Target shopping center on Birch, so that means a private little room with lots of peace and quiet, but friendly service. If you want loud and hectic and someone who talks your ear off and makes you talk when you just want to read a magazine, go to a large overpriced salon....this was right up my alley. So I came here a few weeks ago with a groupon for a cut and highlights, but never had the time to write this review. Shame on me. I definitely have been meaning to since Kristen did such an uhMAYzing job with my hair. But honestly this place deserves 5 stars not just for gorgeous hair, but because Kristen is an absolute sweetie who actually LISTENS to her customers and what they want (Whaaat. I know). I have a slight phobia of hairstylists-- I've been through so many and way too many personalities that have given cause for said phobia. But Kristen is neither too pushy nor too dismissive. She knows her stuff and cares about your hair. 1) When I asked Kristen for a trim, that's EXACTLY what she gave me (none of that "Yea yea I know what I'm doing" attitude, only to discover 10 minutes later 5 inches come off your head). 2) I don't like hairstylists that talk my ear off and get super nosy about my personal life (I'm here for a cut, not therapy), and Kristen was able to give me my space whilst still maintaining a friendly manner. 3) She offered me coffee in a cute ass mug. (Serious points for a coffee addict like myself.) 4) She was patient, polite, and accommodating without giving 'tude when, after the cut and highlights, I asked for more thinning-- and more thinning-- in the back because it looked too heavy (I have serious bush hair). 5) **So I go home with my hair and realized in a couple days that it started looking greenish/gray. (I had died it a cool brown with blonde highlights.) I started freaking out and immediately called Kristen and told her the situation. She was patient and asked me to come in at my earliest convenience because she wanted to make sure I was happy and that my hair was perfect. I go in and we have a long discussion about what I want to do with my hair. She patiently explained to me the different tones to browns and I realized I wanted a warmer tone-- NOT a cool tone. (Oops, I think that bad was on me. But she never got huffy like I'd expect any other stylist might.) Afterwards, I tried to tip her-- but Kristen just smiled and would not accept! She also said I could come in for a free toning at some point in the near future. WHAT. Yes. I know, right? 5 stars for Kristen and Hue Color Lab. Kristen and Diego deserve their own reality show; the magic radiating out of this salon is that of wanderlust. Kristen is the first stylist to explain why certain shades are used (being blonde, that's pretty darn important) AND when you ask for a trim then it's just that: a trim! My hair has never looked as long and lush as it does now, having gone to her for about a year. I must boast that I love the compliments I receive on my hair and always give do praise to Hue Color Lab! I have been going to Diego FOREVER. He's been doing a fabulous job re-blonding me for all of that time. He does nice precise cuts, too, but I like to keep it long. He's also good at repairing other stylist's mistakes, or your own! He listens to what you want, but also makes helpful suggestions. You'll be in good hands with Kristen as well...she knows what she's doing. They make a great team. Is it cheap? No, but it's not unreasonable, either. Do you get what you pay for? Yes. I really loved coming here, it was my first time. I was blonde before and idk what happen but it darkened to a dark caramel and just didn't look good at all. So I asked my old stylist (Not Diego or Kristen) to lighten me up and it still wasn't looking good or blonde. So as my last attempt to go blonde I found this add on Groupon and I am so glad I did!! I Showed Diego a photo and all he said was, "I will lighten you as much as I can without breakage" and that's what he did!! Saturday was my first time at Hue Color Lab and I LOVE IT! I love the fact that the new salon is a private suite and has a comfy feel.It's nice not being overwhelmed with a billion conversations going on around you and loud music over the speakers. I can actually enjoy my conversation with Kristen. They also have an amazing selection of coffee to enjoy while you are getting your hair done. Love it! I have been going to Kristen Macchio-Winn for over 6yrs and she is the only person I trust with my hair. Having long hair it's hard to find a stylist who you trust enough not to "CHOP" it all off. I have had tragic times at salons in the past coming home in tears with too much of my hair gone & the color being just horrid. Kristen M. was what I was looking for. I know that when I sit in her chair ask for a trim & some layers at the end I will still have my long locks in tact but with a fabulous lift to them! As far as color goes she rocks that out as well. Whether it's adding some lightness to my brunette hair for spring/summer or giving me the bold rich dark for fall/winter, I know I will walk out looking amazing. I'm always open and willing for suggestions from her as well because I know she won't give me something that I won't be happy with. So i had come across Hue color lab on groupon, read some reviews, and bought the deal. Usually I get quite skeptical about deals so affordable but I gave it a try. NO REGRETS. I had an appointment with Diego that I set up with him a few weeks in advance. My hair was dyed red back in October and basically faded out and was a gross orange/brownish color that did NOT look very pretty with my skin tone and my eyebrows. I came in with my hair all gross and basically just asked for it to be dyed back to my natural color. My roots were showing so it was probably an easier way to match it. After, I asked for a V-cut trim but Diego said "no, its going to look all stringy" so I trusted him and it turned out beyond awesome. I have this phobia of going to new stylists but honestly, I think I have found the one. I will definitely be returning back for new color and more cuts for sure. Diego is probably one of the most personable, coolest stylists i've met so far. Highly recommended! Its kind of hard to get in contact with because he's so busy but its worth it ! read more

I loved this new salon! Its not your typical salon that has a ton of stylists and a bunch of women having multiple conversations around you. It was nice to finally have a place to go to where you don't have to yell at your stylist because the station next to you has a blow dryer going! Not to mention, I loved my highlights and cut! Diego is amazing at what he does and fixed my dry, damaged, strawberry blond hair! My hair doesn't take color very well because of my natural red/blond color, and every time I leave there my hair looks great and it last a long time! If you don't have a place to go to, or you are trying to find a new stylist who actually treats you like a human being and not just a client, then this is where you want to go.
