My son just started middle school this year. He has been having a tough time with the transition…read morefrom elementary to middle school but the teachers and staff are used to that sort of thing and have all been supportive and understanding. The middle school is actually located right across from an elementary school so if you live nearby it's not so much of a change. We've had meetings with his teachers and the vice principal about our son and his work and all have been great experiences.

I cannot express how much my son and I detest this school. Let's start at the beginning. I went to…read moreenroll my son, and they told me they couldn't, I had to go elsewhere. I drove all over the county, and everyone sent me back to Shrade. I finally went back there, and they huffed and threw some paperwork at me. I told them there was an issue, and they said don't worry about it. The day of school I find out it IS an issue, and I have to wait TWO WEEKS for my son to start school! I made some calls, and he was finally permitted to start. From then on, anytime I have had a question (when is picture day? when is the fundraiser? when can I meet my son's teachers?) I got met with "I don't know" or "that's not my job." You're the secretary! Whose job is it?! Anytime I asked a question, they pulled my son from class to try to make him answer. If my son knew, I wouldn't be asking the school! Thankfully, another school noticed my son was incredibly intelligent and recruited him. I asked Shrade to forward his file to them. They wouldn't unless I withdrew him first, so I did. The new school was appalled; it turns out that Shrade didn't do ANYTHING they were supposed to! Paperwork wasn't filed; it turns out my son qualified for free lunches. That would've been good to know! They didn't request his records from his previous school, so I had to go back to Shrade and ask them to do it. They promised... of course that means they did nothing. I called his old school every day, and every day I went back to Shrade to ask them to do it. Finally, the new school said they'd do it, even though they weren't supposed to. Just before my son left Shrade, he had done the school fundraiser, raising $300 for them. He won several prizes. When my son switched schools, Shrade refused to give him anything, stating that only Shrade students get prizes. He was a Shrade student when he earned them! My son was crushed. Once a week, I stopped by to check for his fundraising items and school pictures. Every time, I was told someone would call me when they came in. TWO MONTHS later, a woman overhears me asking and informed me her daughter got hers a month ago! The woman behind the desk grouchily went and got our things. My son was bullied at that school, and there was no challenge there, no homework, no testing. He was bored. We are MUCH happier at Harmony. Avoid Shrade!!

I have also attended dance competitions and show offs for my daughter's middle school and high school years for drill team. My HS Freshman is on XC at Wylie East and they have had meets at this campus. He's also attended a baseball event here. Their baseball field is nice. Both of my children's Art work has been displayed at this campus from Middle School years, leading up to High School. Traffic in this area of the school campus and surrounding areas can be frustrating at times getting in and out. Crossing guard/crosswalk area can get chaotic with students going back and forth in the morning and afternoon, while everyone is commuting to work. Lots of students head over to the nearby shopping center that also has fast food places to eat at, so this can cause huge delays, which causes backed up traffic. Our HOCO parade is mapped out at this campus/stadium. Nice stadium for Friday night lights!

Particular staff members were abusive to my child, utilizing threats and a cease and desist to try to keep him from speaking about being horribly bullied. They deny him access to public games and events at the school. They pulled him from class constantly and then counted him absent, trying to serve me with truancy papers while he was on campus. This is the newest of the Garland schools. It was built in 2002. It is a two story building. The…read moreschool houses around 2900 students and 180 teachers. There are two large gyms located to the back of the school. The softball field and tennis courts are on the north side of the school. There is a football field behind the school that is used for practices and JV/Freshman games. Most of the teachers here are friendly. Then of course you have your handful of them that seem to hate their job and hate kids, and you wonder how they're still working there. Some of admin are supportive and some aren't. The principal (Shae Creel) is ok. He struggles to follow through with rules. He tells everyone they must follow them but when it comes down to it he's a bit of a pushover. He's one of those people that wants to please everyone and wants everyone to like him. He's not a very strong leader. He's very kind but doesn't know how to lead a large group. If your kid does something to get into trouble, just threaten to sue and they will lessen the punishment. They hate dealing with upset parents and they panic when threatened with a lawsuit. If your kid is an athlete and they get in trouble, don't worry, they get athletes out of everything. Especially if it's a football player. The football players can do no wrong in their eyes. UIL rules doesn't exist at Sachse. If a child violates one of the UIL rules, coaches and admin will move mountains to get the child out of trouble and back on the active roster. Coaches will also go to teachers and request them to change grades of athletes just to make them pass and be eligible. They have a lot of interesting elective class options. For example: future teachers, teen leadership, coding, robotics, welding, etc. Overall an ok school. There are other districts with better options for schooling that I would recommend going to.

Draper offers 1 Gifted and Talented class and 2 advanced math classes of which I am in both. Every six weeks we have an assembly and Dr. Al Draper comes and hands out awards. They have a program called P.A.S and students who meet the standards get special privileges. They also started another thing where we get recess after lunch for 15 minutes. The kids are great. In the morning we have patriot power which is a little class in the morning. Overall I think Wylie ISD is the best for kids because the teachers take NO nonsense. I most certainly recommend Draper!
