Our review is based on our interaction and hopefully explains why we left 1 star. We had limited service as well. When scheduling a chimney sweep with this company, please be aware that if your chimney is deemed unsafe for use, you will still be responsible for the inspection fee. In our case, this fee was $325.00. Our situation arose because a contractor modified our fireplace for aesthetic purposes but inadvertently damaged it, rendering it unsafe. Due to liability concerns, Hudson declined to perform the sweep, which we fully understand. However, we were unaware that the inspection alone--consisting of a visual assessment from our living room--would incur a $325 charge without any sweeping service provided. The company asserts that this fee was disclosed during the initial appointment setup, but we maintain that it was not. We requested a recording of the call, which was not provided. As a result, this remains a dispute of verbal assurances. We advise all potential customers to confirm all applicable charges before scheduling. The entire interaction seems as if the goal was for a sales pitch from the start. The people who came to our home were very nice but it was obvious what the end goal was from the start. For comparison, Hudson quoted us $13,500 give or take to replace our entire wood burning fire box which was deemed necessary by them but three other licensed and insured companies inspected our fireplace at NO COST and confirmed that repairs--not a full replacement--were not only sufficient but possible. This was later verified with the county. We believe transparency regarding fees is essential and the fact that we are even having this conversation serves a proof that they notice of the inspection fee was clearly not sufficient enough. We're not people who just complain for refunds. We believe in paying for services in our community. We remain out $325 for an inspection we did not anticipate, despite the company's claim of prior disclosure. Feel free to message for the names of the other companies if you need a second or third quote. WE SHOULD HAVE READ REVIEWS WITH THIS COMPANY FIRST. They took 3 pictures of the inside of the fireplace. Charged $350. Could not give a price or even a ballpark price. Came back with a price of $2200 or $3900 to fix the chimney top. We had another company fix the problem for $450 total. Do not recommend. read more

Extremely overpriced for the work they did. Checked my chimney (which had never been used by the previous owner). Caulked top of fireplace cap on roof. Cleaned dryer vent. $650 for 1 hours work. They wanted to come back to attach dryer vent and caulk around fireplace for another $500. read more

The response was amazingly fast-came over the same day I called! Had on their van what we needed for repair (our chimney cap had blown off with a recent severe wind storm). They take advantage of senior citizens. Exorbitant fees. Wish I had told them to hit the road. Checked with competitors and was a third of what they charged me. It was over 1500 to pressure wash the chimney and put a cap on it. read more

RIDICULOUS office. I couldn't schedule a time with them because their site wasn't functioning. They refused to schedule me over the phone for the first available day they had open because they weren't in the office. They told me if I was unable to use the Internet they couldn't help me. Awful, awful experience dealing with this company. Below I describe in detail the terrible experiences but to summarize it I will tell you that this is the most disorganized and unprofessional company I've ever dealt with. The owner, Mark does not have a clue and on more than one occasion raised his voice to make his point. No matter how many times I call and speak with him he never seems to remember who I am. Furthermore he continues to get upset that I keep calling for updates. In addition, Mark has more excuses than flies on horses. One week he explains the delay as "I lost the paper work", then another week the excuse is "parts have been ordered", then later on he tells me they keep these parts in stock. The guy flat out lies. Full story: I first contacted this company on August 22, 2016 about cleaning my dryer vent and to quote repair/replacement cost for my leaking chimney cap/spark arrestor, etc. On 8/25/16 they arrived very late to clean the dryer vent. They also quoted the price to replace the cap and at that time also discovered I needed to replace a panel in the firebox. The quote seemed high but on 8/26/16 I informed the owner Mark that I would like to move forward with replacing the cap and the firebox. He informed me the process can take about 2 weeks and they would contact me when they were ready to install. Anyone with a calendar can plainly see 2 weeks from 8/26/16 is 9/9/16. that date came and went with no call. On 9/13/16 I called for an update only to find Mark completely unaware of the timeline (it appeared as if he hadn't even ordered the parts). I will spare you the details of long drawn out process and take to the the end. After weeks of phone calls and threats to take my business elsewhere Hudson Chimney showed up unannounced to install the cap. I truly had no idea they were coming to install and it was just by dumb luck I was home to meet them. The cap and spark arrestor was installed 10/5/16 which is nearly 4 weeks after the original promise install date and 6 weeks from the time of the quote. But is gets better, today is 12/15/16 and they have yet to replace the rear panel which I am told by Mark is a part they keep in stock. SO I've spent nearly $1000 on a new cap and arrestor but still can't use my fireplace. The owner still seems clueless every time call. Honestly, I guess I am the idiot for continuing to deal with these bozos. Please, take caution. these guys are terrible. If I could give zero stars I would. read more

Beware of Hudson Chimney https://hudsonchimney.com/ ! Mr. Hudson will lull you in with promises of expertise and great service on the phone, but then ask you to please sign up through their website to be scheduled as it is the "easiest way to get scheduled." The website forces you to click on/agree to a $125 service call before you can just send in the request to be contacted. That should have been the first clue, but I am apparently a fool who assumes everyone will be fair about their charges and fees; after all I just wanted the damaged cap repaired or replaced and an assessment of the smoke draw problems. $125 minimum is not unreasonable labor right? Besides, I spoke with Mr. Hudson on the phone and he seemed so reasonable. Rest assured, after a less than 10 minute assessment it was followed by a $2500 repair estimate and a request for an immediate deposit for the repairs, I advised I would have to think about it before making an instant decision. I was then quickly told I owe $125 and shown a copy of the printout with the check box before I could even question it (yes they carry a copy with them obviously to force their victims to pay). Yep they got me and got me good - legally right yes, ethically no. I paid out of my ethics since yes I checked the box, but out of those same ethics I will do my best to warn any future customers not to be taken like I was. I would recommend never doing business with anyone that requires a $125 estimate fee, ridiculous and indicative of poor business practices all together, which likely instigated the $125 mandatory payments they charge. At 2 calls per hour that is $250 per hour and no work even being done. Rest assured we will be getting estimates from reputable companies who do not charge $125 just for their estimates. If you are honest, competitive and reputable, you do not need to charge $125 for estimates! Beware. read more
