I stayed here one night in July. It's fun to kayak in the lily pond on the property, where you get a better view of the scenery since the tents are in the woods (and you might have a chance to see the local moose), and we had a short hike on logging roads past a slate quarry to a vista with lots of wildflowers. The main drawback at this time of year is the mosquitoes due to the standing water throughout the woods. They provide you with various repellents which helps, but I was still covered in mosquito bites when I left. The only noise besides the songbirds is a train which goes by occasionally. The accommodations are well supplied and well-kept, with a kitchen stocked with everything you need to cook. You can get some veggies from their garden for a dinner salad, including garlic spirals which are an interesting twist on chives. We cooked a simple meal over the open fire, which had a clever grill contraption to cook the food on. Water is pumped from a tank behind the kitchen. There is a clean and not smelly outhouse complete with hand sanitizer and old magazines. The breakfast was hearty - eggs (fresh from the chicken coop), bacon, pancakes, and of course homemade huckleberry jam. Even the apple juice they press and can themselves. The company was pleasant, with groups from two other tents. Since there were three of us, they sent up an extra tent for me next to my parents tent. In short, if you want the experience of camping near a farm, without the hassle of packing and pitching a tent, then this might be the place for you. Glamping- fun but still relaxing. The private campsites are very well thought out and equipped, from the stocked kitchenette to the solar lamps to the down comforters and s'mores fixings. This family really is welcoming and will gladly teach you about their garden, solar panels, and more. Also, they cook a mean breakfast (make sure to try their homemade apple cider). We saw moose and deer on the property and heard owls at night- very cool. Plus, Tim gave us great directions to explore the surrounding sights. You'll want to stay more than one night! The BF stumbled across this place while browsing B&B's in Idaho near Lake Pend Oreille - since we have 3 dogs (well, two are chi-mixes, so count those as you will) our vacations either default to canine-free to stay someplace nice, or car-camping to be able take the whole family. Huckleberry Tent and Breakfast was an awesome, awesome find that suited our wants and needs pretty perfectly. Go to TripAdvisor to see several other reviews that do justice to the homestead, the host family, and the incredible lip-smacking, belt-loosening, nap-inducing breakfast.. so other than saying ALL of the above are outstanding, I won't dwell. What really struck me as incredible - more so than I've ever experienced at any place, even much pricier/ fancier vacation location hotels - was the extensive attention to detail in anticipating any potential needs. Extra propane for the lights, extra firewood, matches, cooking utensils, dish soap, extra comforter, pillows, towels, bug spray - you name it - already stocked and ready for your use. S'more ingredients? There. Bottled water? Check. Battery operated alarm clock so you don't miss breakfast? Yup. Tiny flashlight hanging from the bedpost for the midnight outhouse run? Of course. Reading material in the outhouse?! Even covered there. Seriously, I was floored..... they thought of anything and everything they could to make our stay at our site comfortable and without having to ask. Don't get me wrong, glamping is still technically 'camping' - so although 90% of what Huckleberry gives you far outshines your regular tent-camping experience, there is still no bathroom with running water, you have to boil water to wash dishes (but there's a SINK and COUNTER and STOVE to do so), and the 'shower' is a bucket with a spray hose attached - so don't take someone here who's expecting a marble bubble bath, flushing toilet, or electrical outlet to plug their Iphone into. But if you want to enjoy a few private days out in nature away from everyone - and still enjoy most of the comforts of home - this is a fantastic option. Can't wait to go back next summer! read more
