Traditional diner with nice selection and very good food and service. If you're looking for something fancy, this probably is not the place for you. If however you're looking for good food and great desserts, you should really stop and check this place out. The ambience in this restaurant reminds me of an old hometown diner like you'd find on classic TV shows. The waitresses treat you like an old friend. No formalities, just good friendly service. They have homemade barbecue on select days and daily breakfast and dinner specials. The highlight of this place though are the homemade pies and cinnamon buns. Definitely save room for dessert or plan on taking something home because they shouldn't be missed. Stopped by here for the first time this morning for breakfast. Service was extremely sweet and efficient. The food we tried were the following: Cinnamon bun French toast-delicious! Breakfast Burrito- so good! Loved the carnitas inside. Was not a fan of the sausage gravy. Had a really strange taste. The biscuits were really good. Had them on the side. I asked then for a Takeout Christmas Turkey type Dinner because its just my brother and I, a couple of old divorcees who missed those dinners but didn't want to buy a 20lb Turkey and waste alot of meat! Best of the best in the North country of New York. Clean, Neat, friendly diner a couple miles off of I-81 at the Sandy Creek/Lacona exit. I had the Western Omelette with toast special. Big, and delicious with home made Raisin toast included. Great coffee with several top-ups from our delightful waitress, Amanda. Traveled this neck of the woods for many years and this is the best of the bunch, with reasonable prices to boot. Worth the ride, give it a try. read more

I usually love this place for its good food, down home atmosphere and friendly wait staff. Last week I ordered the pulled pork sandwich which is my "go to", but this time over half of the meat was fat and gristle! I was so disappointed! I didn't bring it to the waitress's attention because I was eating with a new acquaintance and didn't want to seem difficult. The coleslaw with pineapple was the highlight of my meal, but please be better about the portion of EDIBLE meat. read more

I stopped in on this warm September day. I ordered the turkey club with cheddar broccoli soup. The soup was so salty, there was no way I could consume it. A replacement was brought but it was no better. The sandwich was not bad but I will not recommend it. Also, I was with a friend that ordered a different choice. We waited a long time for our food! A very long time!!! The waitress was very apologetic but the food and the long wait time ensures that I will not be returning to this establishment. read more

Placed a pick up order and was told 15 min.. they started getting our food together once i walked in the building and waiting another 15 min, not sure they got the point of me calling ahead. Normally quite happy with the meals we get from Huckleberry but not tonight. My broc cheddar soup tastes like it was made with bagged nacho cheese & looks like slop i wouldnt even serve my animals. we stopped at the Huckleberry Cafe as we were passing through the area, and had a wonderful experience. The service was phenomenal, and the food was awesome with very generous portions. I got the bag of bones dinner, which was way more than I could eat, but was absolutely delicious. The fried chicken drumsticks were crispy and so flavorful. My partner got the chicken breast dinner, which had a delicious marinade and again was more food than he could finish. The baked goods looked amazing, we took some chocolate cake to go. The unsweetened iced tea was refreshing. The bathroom was very clean, and we were seated quickly. The waitress was very friendly and attentive. Charming country decor amidst simple table settings and food that is anything but plain. On our second stop here, we went full barbecue: brisket, pulled pork, ribs, baked beans, and mac/cheese. Let's just say that a certain reptilian joint in 'Cuse has nothing on the Huckleberry. The service was excellent, leftovers a plenty (not for lack of trying), and we even scored some delicious baked goods to snack on later when we left. My mother-in-law was from Pulaski and loved Sandy Creek so it was only fitting that we had a family breakfast here in her memory. I wasn't able to get pictures because everyone cleared their plates. After skulking around Salmon River Falls near Orwell, NY, my girlfriend and I were a bit peckish, so we headed north on Highway 22 and landed in Lacona. We initially wanted to find some kind of ice creamery, but the ice cream shop was under repair. So right across the road we noticed the Huckleberry Cafe was open and decided to step into this quaint establishment. Small towns and hometown diners just do the body and the mind good. The diner was well lit by the incoming sunshine. As soon as I saw their specials on the white board, and that the hot Italian sausage sandwich was one of them, I knew what I wanted to order. The waitress was great, very friendly. My girlfriend ordered their BLT sandwich. Both sandwiches were very tasty indeed. I really liked that they toasted the roll for the Italian sausage sandwich. The bacon in the BLT sandwich looked nice and crispy and seemed to contain just the right amount of ingredients. Not sure when we'll be back out to Lacona, but if you ever find yourselves in the area, definitely stop by this diner. read more

Dave showed us a tray of English Muffins, an order from a local Reverend! Oh my! And you better try the Cinnamon Rolls and biscuits--melt in your mouth drip down the chin goodness! I had the Huckleberry salad and hubby ordered the cheeseburger with fries--fresh and delicious! Service was friendly--the servers obviously Enjoy working here! My hubby and I came to Sandy Creek to do some geneology and when we asked the librarian for a suggestion for lunch--a place where we could get a sense of Sandy Creek--she unhesitatingly recommended the Huckleberry! Was in town for work, stopped for lunch. Had the brisket Reuben with fries as recommended by the server & it was excellent. Side of fries hot & fresh from the frier. Service was fast & friendly, I was in & out in under 25 mins (excellent for a work day), & the place is clean & welcoming. They have a wide selection of baked goods (I wasn't able to try any today) & a standard menu but the barbecue is excellent & if/when I am in town I will absolutely try some brisket on its own. Would come back with kids & family if ever in town with them - definitely seems family friendly. Atmosphere is typical for a small town diner, but the food definitely surpassed my expectations. read more

There was a wait that moved along quickly & the the staff was very friendly and cordial! The food was Hot & Delish, so much so we had to come back & try their dinner menu! We started with dessert and shared a piece of huckleberry strussle pie which was the bomb! Chatted up the baker and all the cookies, pies and cinnabuns are made in house. Half the food was over cooked half the food was undercooked. When asking about it the owner said they are busy and you get it how you get it. Owner is completely rude to customers and staff. Use to be my favorite breakfast stop but after the owners being disrespectful to customers and staff on more than one occasion I will no longer be giving them my business. Needing to stop after a long drive, I took a chance on a mom and pop cafe off the highway. The service was excellent as was the food. I had the pulled pork with coleslaw and beans along with a homemade biscuit. All of it made on the premises The building is small and on the corner, next to a pizza place and a hot dog stand, but the smell of the bbq will draw you in. Home made desserts mostly pies with some cookies and cakes are tempting you as you enter. The pork was tender, not overly sweet and needed nothing extra added to it, the beans and biscuit were also good. I ate less than 1/2 of what was served packing the rest for dinner the next night along with an extra order of the coleslaw to go. I had enough for dinner the following night, great coleslaw and enough for lunch the next day. I will definitely stop there again. As people were leaving they all took home slices of pies, If I had enough room in my cooler I would have too. read more

We passed this place up once due to lack of advertising on the building from our view point of driving by all we saw was a neon window sign that said open and breakfast so we passed on by the second day we went by and decided to check it out as we drove to the front of the building we realized it was a BBQ cafe so we we're like score this may be a good place. There was a large man in front of a large smoker cooking up some BBQ. I ordered a brisket sandwich and the other person ordered the bbq sampler. All I can say is WOW!!! amazing job best bbq I've ever had. And the other person with me had the same reaction some of the best he's ever had!!
