I love the selection of German beer and drinks at the Huber Haus. I finally broke down and shared a boot as well. The boot was extremely cheap ($16). We got it filled with Warsteiner. That being said, there is a problem with the Huber Haus, and it has nothing to do with the bartenders, drinks, or location. It has everything to do with the number of drunken 21-year-olds. Don't get me wrong, I did my fair share of overkill drinking when I was that age, but this place is filled with people who are teetering over, near puking, and sloppy drunk. It's also very crowded, and it's not uncommon to have some drunken meat head walking around, tripping over inanimate objects and/or bumping into your table, causing your drinks to slosh around. If you love German beer, do yourself a favor, and go here earlier in the night. Otherwise you'll find that there are very few seats and that the bathrooms are in a sorry state, filled with the vomit of college students who think having another boot is a good idea. read more

Huber Haus is beer corners German offering. I've been coming here a few years now and frankly I'm sad they got rid of the german food menu and now just run on the crescent moon menu. That having been said, I still enjoy this tiny bar in the basement and I keep coming back to it. This bar only servers german style beers, so if you want something else, you are better off going upstairs to the crescent moon alehouse for a larger selection. The huber haus however is the only place in beer corner that you can get a 2 litre boot of beer to drink with your friends at your table. The boot is a right of passage and comes with its own set of rules, it is not for the faint of heart. A few times a year this bar also hosts a hammerschlaggen league that they call "Huberschlaggen" which is a lot of fun to play in and is certainly one of the things that keeps me coming back. read more

friend orders patty melt; male server drops it, mistakes happen, all good. but friend's patty melt never comes. friend waits 30 minutes, no replacement ever comes. friend goes to female bartender, tells her his Reuben never came. she brings Reuben in 5 minutes. But he originally didnt order a Reuben, so the fact she brought one out without question shows their system might be wonky. also male server was bad as a bartender. was slow, served people based on who raised their hands fastest?? screamed for help any time he had to pour a drink? waited at the bar 20+ minutes to get a second drink. read more

As a beer drinker who likes fun drinking apparatuses I am so jazzed that I was taken here to enjoy a boot of beer! And good beer at that - Paulaner Hefeweisen :-) Here's the skinny: go down to the basement, ask the bartender for a boot of beer, he (or she) takes your ID and credit card as a "just in case" deposit on the boot, chug, glug, and enjoy! Finally, you pay $20ish for the whole thing. Of course, if you add more beer on top of the boot, the tab will go up slightly...I speak from experience. While the space is not the largest there are a few booths in addition to some high tops and the long Oktoberfest style tables in the middle. Sit, drink and be merry! While some have commented that the crowd is obnoxious I would argue that it's all in the eye of the beholder. True German biergartens are much more rowdy than this! I think someone said there was a guy there who was on The Real World but who really cares? I also saw a dude with a Colorado A & M shirt - high marks for that - GO RAMS! Plus, a corner table filled with vampires helped matters too. I saw all walks of life - great variety of clientele. They have a limited number of boots so be patient but what a fun bar. We went here on Friday night after the Senior Banquet (Creighton Med. School Graduation) and this is the second place that I have gone to that serves beer in the BOOT!!! Lugano's Swiss Bistro is the only place that I can remember that I've had beer in a boot before. There is a game associated with the boot but I didn't pay much attention to it. This bar is downstairs of the Crescent Moon and offers super affordable wines and adult beverages in general. I got a bottle of not the Reisling but their other house slightly sweet white... a German wine obviously... I"ll update this when I remember it. So one of the girls ordered the following: 3 vodka sodas with limes 1 vodka tonic with a lime 1 Chardonnay I kid you not, the bartender said, "$22 please." I honestly nearly fainted... I couldn't believe what I had just heard. I know he wasn't hooking her up, she was cute but she was also visiting to celebrate her friend's Med. School Graduation. That is seriously the price of a cocktail (with tip) at one of my favorite hotel bars... the Redwood Room at the Clift Hotel in San Francisco. I love this place! I originally came here because one of my students recommended it because he likes the German beer, but now I like to go back for the atmosphere. First, they have long tables (like a traditional German beer hall!) so you can go with a whole party and actually be able to sit and drink together. Second, they have pretzels and bratwurst; which are both delicious. Third, they employ some wicked shot chefs (is that a real profession?). They have a large selection of shots that actually taste good with the beers they serve, if you just want tequila go upstairs. Finally, they have boots. I have yet to partake in a boot, because it's just too much beer for a small group, and the rules are really complicated (yes, there are rules for the boot). One minor stickle point, the dumb frat boys are fond of chanting 'Das Boot!' as they drink from the boot, which of course beans 'the boat' in German, boot is 'Der Stiefel'. The final point leads me to the big drawback: frat boys. Obviously I have no idea if these guys are actually in a fraternity, but about half the time, the weekend crowd is all popped collar, backwards hat types who do nothing but annoy. That bothers me. We set out for Crescent Moon but it was fairly dead so we headed downstairs to Huber Haus to see what was going on...as soon as we got to the bottom of the stairs it was like walking into another world. Everyone was singing along with the jukebox, dancing, and having a great time. We ordered our first boot and had great conversation with lots of random friendly strangers. Huber Haus is one of my favorites. I've been there a few times, most recently for Oktoberfest. I've been to Oktoberfest at the German American Society several times but this was my first time at the Haus. The place was already packed when we arrived at 7:30. They closed down 36th street and also had a massive beer tent set-up in the parking lot immediately behind the bar. They had a good variety of German bier. If you want something domestic, you could make your way upstairs to the Crescent Moon. The beer prices were decent ($5 for a 1/2 liter mug refill, $9 for a liter, $18 for a two liters). They offered a variety of German food which I've never tried. The Moon also has more traditional bar food offerings (burgers, sandwiches, nachos, etc). I had a blast listening to the Barry Boyce Band while drinking from my half liter mug. My only gripe is the fact that they make you purchase tickets (1 ticket = $1). I highly recommend checking it out whether Oktoberfest is taking place or not. If not, bring a few friends, order das boot, and have fun. Make sure to follow the rules. This place is just amazing. I've only been here once, so I am bound to come back and update after coming several more times. I decided to try Crescent Moon for my birthday after seeing all of the amazing things about it on Yelp. I knew the Huber Haus and Max & Joe's were also here but didn't realize just how great that was. I had a party of 4, and later 8. We couldn't find anywhere to sit (this was a Wednesday night) and was recommended to check downstairs in the Huber Haus. We went down and found that the only open spot was the corner booth which easily seated all of us. The place was loud and packed with Creighton students as I expected based on the previous reviews. They weren't obnoxious or too drunk which was a good thing. I've taken 6 years of German and love the culture and the country. This is the best example of a German style Bierhall that I have been to. Not to say a larger city with a larger German influence may have better. The Haus has great decor including the standard advertising, signs, and then some taxidermy including a warthog. The jukebox didn't quite play German music, but it didn't subtract from the atmosphere at all. We ordered off the Alehouse menu because we figured we would try something tried and true before trying the rest of it. We ordered a sample platter of appetizers and the cheeseburger specials. The appetizers were great, the fried pickles, cheese curds, and onion rings were fantastic. The chips, queso, and salsa were actually very good, the salsa was pretty cilantroy (Is that a word?), just how I like it. Cheeseburgers surprised me, they were the best I've had at any local bar (where you expect bar food quality), minus Dinker's and the other places renowned for burgers. My brother said the chicken strips were very good also. Service was exceptional, our waitress was extremely infromative and attentive to our table. So, now that we're done with the food.....Das Huber Haus has an excellent selection of German beers. They have the German standards and then they have the not-so-standard beers in bottles. Throughout the 4-5 hours I was there I tried the Spaten Premium Lager, Paulaner Oktoberfest, Ayinger Oktoberfest, and a Höfbrau brew that I can't recall. They were all exceptional and I will definitely be trying to get more into the German beer culture in the future. Having lived in Germany for 4.5 years and having traveled Europe extensively I've been hoping to find a place in Omaha that serves good German beer. So far, this place has come closest. My fiancé and I showed up to the HH around 7pm, found a spot at the bar without TOO much trouble and ordered a "Boot" of Ayinger Pilsner. The beer was good and cold, the service was good and the Poutine was excellent (they call it Moontine). My only complaints were the clientele and the lack of space Twas full of "Check out how enlightened I am by speaking about things I have no experience with, but read about and now believe I'm am expert on." and "If I'm yelling, that means I'm having fun!" college students. GOD I hope I wasn't that obnoxious and pretentious when I was that age. (I probably was) This place needs about another 100sq ft to be treated better rating wise. Some of the best beer I've had in a long time and a pretty relaxed atmosphere to boot.

The beer was great and the environment wasn't bad. The boot was a ton of fun until one of our friends gently tapped it to the rhythm of a song and it broke. $50 charge for the broken boot with no chance for anything less. It was a serious bummer because the rest of the experience was very good. The $50 charge is understood based on the precedent of bar-goers that usually frequent the area, however it was tough to impose that monetary requirement on a group differing from the traditional Thursday evening crew. read more

Some of the best German beer right here!! The bartenders were great and very knowledgeable. The little glass sprayer caught our attention so we asked. They said the owner often goes to Germany to keep up to date, and they use this sprayer right before pouring your beer and gives it that nice crisp taste. This place is the best! I was here with a few of my buddies. The first night we came here there was a Polish Festival happening out back. We had a great time! I have since been back and my experience was great. They have an amazing selection of good German beer on tap. They also have a few different sizes, ranging from a pint to "Das Boot" (a 64 ounce glass boot filled with beer). The food here is very good "bar food" with a decent selection of authentic German dishes as well. Overall my experiences here have been great! What can I say. It's a little slice of Bavaria right in our own backyard. Having lived in Germany for 4 years and exploring as many beer houses as humanly possible, I was overjoyed when the Huber Haus opened for business. It's as close to the real thing as we can get without actually traveling to Germany. The beer selections are absolutely amazing. Be prepared for a tasting extravaganza. Be sure to try them all. For me personally, the Aventinus can't be beat. Food can be ordered from the Crescent which is always good. I personally just order the meat, cheese and pretzel tray which compliments the world class beer perfectly. You don't want to get stuffed on food and have it get in the way of the beer. The only knock against the Huber Haus is, when it gets crowded, it becomes a echo chamber and you cant hear yourself think. read more
