Monday morning we were there within 1/2 hour of their opening. Shocked by the amount of the estimate that was written up, but went ahead and made a deposit. Then we had a second thought, call our insurance company to see if the repair could be covered or possibly have the RV totaled as the estimate was barely lower than the actual value of the RV. It was as if a switch went off. He changed from personable and helpful to 'not happy' about this change of plans. He said he didn't deal with insurance companies. We tried to clarify his statement by asking if he would at least talk to them about the estimate, thinking maybe we would have to pay him ourselves and then get reimbursed by the insurance company. He repeated his statement, 'I don't deal with insurance companies!' He did return our deposit, however and we left there with a promise to let him know ASAP what the insurance company said. Monday after closing he called us to see what our plans were. We had no answers that soon as our agent referred our claim to an adjuster and the adjuster would be doing the investigating. We spoke to the adjuster but he told us he wouldn't know anything until the weekend. We expressed the urgency of the situation as we were 2500 miles from home, living in a motel now since our RV was in the repair shop. The adjuster said he would try to get an answer for us by Wednesday and we relayed that to Mobile West. He became belligerent and he said if we didn't have an answer for him one way or the other on Wednesday, he was going to have it towed off his property, talking about liability, etc. All day Wednesday we were texting with the claims adjuster but with no answers yet. Wednesday early afternoon we spoke to Mobile West again and he seemed to be understanding that our hands were tied until we heard from the insurance adjuster. Wednesday after closing he called again. This time telling us the police had been called and they would be impounding our RV at 10:00 am the next morning. He wouldn't accept the fact that we were doing everything we could to get the adjuster to give us an answer: cover the bill or total the rig. Conversation ended with us saying we would be at the shop at 10:00am. When we got there he said he was going to treat our RV as an abandoned vehicle and he was releasing all liability. We said that was fine he didn't want him liable for our rig but we didn't have anywhere to take it until we heard if the insurance company was going to cover the repairs or not. By afternoon we heard a towing company had been called to impound it. Luckily, we were able to move it, very gingerly, 1/2 mile away, while we wait to hear from the insurance company. Obviously, whether the repair will be covered by our insurance or not, WE WILL NOT HAVE MOBILE WEST DO THE REPAIRS!!! We are pretty sure the change in personality from morning until evening everyday had much to do with alcohol consumption!

You're close to the ocean, surrounded by trees, and there's this constant sense of spaciousness that lets your mind open up. It creates the perfect conditions for artists to think, feel, and make work. What makes Arts Week truly special, though, is the people. The group of artists is diverse, thoughtful, and deeply engaged. You're in conversation all day long, whether that's over shared meals, spontaneous collaborations, or late night talks that somehow become the most meaningful part of the experience. It's rare to find a space where people show up this open and this willing to connect. The programming strikes a great balance. There's structure when you want it, like readings, performances, and workshops, but also plenty of unstructured time to follow your own creative instincts. There's also a real sense of care built into the week. The staff and organizers are thoughtful and attentive, and you can feel that they want everyone there to succeed!

The first floor of the historic lodge is very inviting. Listening to vinyl records in the homey living room was relaxing. They offer a good selection of creative snacks, grocery, and nick nacks. Two of the rooms were very spacious, we enjoyed use of the retro kitchen and eating on the balcony. Go enjoy a movie from an ample VHS selection. The door of some trailers were finicky to operate. Other than that the bed sagged a bit and more hooks would have been nice. The proximity to what Long Beach has to offer - including The Depot next door - is a huge plus. This was a great spot for our large wedding party. Props to being dog kind and employing a friendly and accommodating staff.
