Being a customer with many banks in the UK, one of the banks I find to be the worst in terms of…read morebranches seems to be Santander, this branch in a really central location on Lord Street in the Liverpool One, close to the WHSmith (and Post Office) as well as rival bank Barclays, it is quite a small and generic Santander branch. One of two locations in the city centre, it will soon become Santander's only branch with the other branch at Church Street earmarked for closure at the end of 2019. The store is entered through a large ramp, there is often beggars around the bank which doesn't make it the nicest of places to do your banking especially when dealing with money, and sometimes the entrance can be obstructed slightly which I don't like. The staff at the bank didn't seem to be too helpful or welcoming, the store did seem understaffed and even with only 3 banking machines for paying in and withdrawing money, it didn't seem to be enough balance in with small counter space. There is a nice waiting area, or somewhere to relax for a few minutes on the free wifi at the side of the store, away from the queues and machines where there are a few nice seats in Santander colours, which alongside the location seems to be one of the few things I like about this branch which just seems too poor, generic and disappointing to warrant anything over a two-star rating.

The branch from the outside, looks like any other Virgin Money store, modern sign, however when I entered everything turned around, inside the store was really small to the point there was barely room for anything other than the counter and queuing area. There only seemed to be one member of staff working, to the point where I kind of felt put off asking for advice due to how busy the store was and how understaffed it was also. There wasn't even any ATM's outside the branch either which is also terrible for a bank, so considering this and the poor, old, understaffed nature and feel of the store, I sadly feel Virgin Money on Lord Street in Liverpool deserves a single one-sta rating.

TSB's new branch in Liverpool city centre is located right next to H&M on Lord Street, I did…read morepreviously like, the old branch TSB had in Liverpool but this store is obviously an improvement with more indoor cash machines and it is just overall a more modern branch with the added benefit of being one of the only banks in the area to include Sunday opening', ditching the draconian opening hours which many banks across the city, especially in Liverpool tend to follow. It might still close early at 4 pm, but this still is progress in the right direction especially considering Sunday trading laws exist, which force stores to close an hour later at 5 pm anyway. As I recall this is the only bank in Liverpool to have Sunday openings until Metro Bank opens at least. The store reminds me of the new Manchester store, albeit slightly smaller and I only presume this is now the new template on which TSB stores will be built on, while also having a small selection of umbrellas you can borrow if it's raining (this is pretty handy!) I do find the seating area in the store to be a tad basic, they felt like they were just thrown in from the old store and really didn't match the modern nature of this one, I also do feel coin facilities could be handled better with a proper counter compared to what they have now. The staff didn't seem overly friendly. I still do prefer the Natwest branch across the way which I really do like the more digitalised and modern approach which is a slightly larger branch too, but this still is a pretty decent bank and it is nice to see TSB move to a more modern branch in a slightly better location within Liverpool city centre but I do feel improvements in other areas to match the rest of the store really are due. 3*

Metro Bank in Liverpool was the first store Metro opened in the north of England, followed by my…read morelocal branch a week later in Liverpool, it is in a good city-centre location in the old Deichmann unit on Paradise Street, which is also in the Liverpool One, opposite the large JD Sports store. It follows the traditional Metro Bank layout with desks, a counter at the end to the point it feels more like an estate agent, certainly not a bank - with no indoor ATM's. I found the staff not to be as friendly as other branches which were a shame, I wasn't greeted, all the staff also seemed to be in one specific area rather than at desks ready to help and talk to customers or at the door to greet them coming in, which isn't the usual Metro Bank standard. The opening hours are amongst the best in the area, as Metro Bank opens at retail hours along with the shop which is long overdue now so credit must be due for ditching the draconian opening hours associated with banks, I must admit in cities such as Manchester and here in Liverpool it has got better, but still, Metro Bank is an industry leader on that front with this Liverpool branch being one of the few nearby stores to be open late at weekends. The overall banking experience though is below average and I probably won't bother with the in-store experience side of my Metro Bank account as it doesn't appear to be fully worth it, and this store is one of the reasons, while it does look good from the outside and makes use of a large unit which would otherwise have looked depressingly empty with good opening hours to warrant an additional star. 2*

This branch of Natwest in Liverpool, is one of the newest stores in the Natwest chain, Natwest…read morerecently opened a new store in Manchester which is under the old concept, and a branch I found to be terrible, however, this branch in Liverpool is probably one of the only things Liverpool has which is better than Manchester, especially after City thrashed Liverpool 5-0 at the Etihad and now Everton have spent over £100m in the summer only to be knocked out of the Europa League, and fighting to stay in the Premiership. Back to my regular review, I joined Natwest in Spring 2017 and this branch is like none other I have seen before, not even with new branches such as Manchester or even stores in Manchester, the whole store seems to have digitalised massively. As you walk into the store, it is quite spacious, the member of the staff who greeted me seemed nice and friendly, and guided me to the waiting area, this place has whole changed in the sense they'd take your name on a tablet and let you sit down as you wait to be seated, perhaps with a drink and using the free wi-fi, which is a cool feature as it means no more standing in a queue, contemplating if you will ever get served again, so the whole banking experience is a much more relaxed atmosphere because of this. This branch is also in a good and more central location than the branch in the One, as it is in a central location for the whole of the city centre, it is fairly close to the Mcdonald's and JD Sports and is located on Church Street, a few minutes walk away after exiting Liverpool One. They did have a nice amount of cash machines for paying in and withdrawing money and a few nice rooms too, where I presume one would open an account or for discussing more private matters. This branch, however, does not open on Sunday's, however this is quite common for the big majority of banks and I've only rarely noticed banks to open on Sunday's, with examples of this including Natwest in Manchester Piccadilly Train Station (which has an impressive 24-7 service to withdraw and pay in money as long as the station is open) and the recently refurbished Lloyds Bank on Market Street in Manchester. The bank also lacks a large number of machines to pay in coins, without having to slightly inconveniently wait after getting a receipt from the paying in the machine and then waiting to pay it into ones account. As mentioned to my by the friendly person who served me, this is a new concept for a Natwest branch, as banks and building societies all across the country are trying out new concepts for banks, such as Natwest in train stations, Lloyds Bank in Manchester with a coffee-bar, and Nationwide in Manchester, I'd say this branch is one of the cooler new concept banks I've seen and is good enough to warrant a four-star rating, which as I recall makes it one of the only banks to have received this honour from me. UPDATE: Due to an issue with paying in money on a recent visit, where I had an issue with the coin machine and with no staff members around to help me, hence leading to a wait to get a staff member and then an even longer wait for the coins to process, I feel this branch sadly deserves a downgrade to a high three-star rating, one of the main things which determine a bank is its staff and sadly they seem to struggle to cope in slightly busier times.

The branch its-self isn't very modern, I also found it to be very understaffed with very few facilities, I only noticed a single machine for banking activities, and a single member of staff on the front, to the point where service was very slow and it seemed there was no one there to help out with increased demand, such as larger queues at the time I visited which did appear to be quite busy in branch. The staff member working on the front didn't seem too friendly either, she just seemed a little slow in dealing with customers. Inside the branch, it felt a little old and miserable - facilities were poor especially compared to other branches of Nationwide such as Manchester and rival banks and building societies as a whole so sadly I feel this branch of Nationwide is disappointing, and deserves a single one-star rating.

The bank its-self is in a satisfactory location in Liverpool city centre, it did appear to be quite hidden to, to the point it was originally hard to work out other than noticing the logo that this was a Lloyds Bank branch. The branch facilities didn't seem to be too great either, mainly down to the fact there didn't appear to be a lot of cash machines inside, or outside of the branch, making the whole experience slightly more awkward, hence meaning you have to spend more time in the branch. The staff didn't give me as good of a welcome, or even acknowledgement as I'm used to when walking into banks, even in the Lloyds chain as well as others such as Natwest. Poor overall feel, poor service and poor facilities sadly warrant a single one-star rating for this branch.
