Located on the corner of Lord Street close to rival bank Natwest, Mcdonald's and the Liverpool One,…read morethis branch of HSBC is a rather large and modern bank and its' structure upon Liverpool city centre is impressive meaning it's somewhere you can't miss while in the city. Considering joining HSBC, I called in this branch to have a look around, the store inside is quite large and it is over multiple floors with Premier banking on the upper floor, I presume they also use the other floors to open accounts with members, similar to the approach at my local branch at Manchester Spinningfields. There was a large number of machines to do everyday banking which I liked both inside the bank and on the wall outside (meaning you can access them on Sundays and in evenings - basically whenever the bank is closed) including paying in and withdrawing money however in terms of service, I can't help but feel the branch was understaffed, with not many staff on the shop floor or at the counter, meaning waiting to be served taken significantly longer than average and that was even on a standard weekday when the bank wasn't too busy. More information in terms of leaflets about accounts, rather than relying on online sources similar to the approach at other banks including Santander would be a nice addition too. A nice large bank in Liverpool which alongside the new modern Natwest across the way is one of my favourite bank branches in the city, but it really does need to do more in the service departments and maybe adding some comfy chairs to relax and maybe do some online banking which a large number of banks seem to be doing now - but for now this is a decent, spacious nice branch, and impresses me as I tend to find HSBC branches a little old-fashioned so a three-star rating is warranted here, a rating which I feel disappointed to give but with speed and quality of service is poor, I sadly feel it deserves no higher.

It follows the traditional Metro Bank layout with desks, a counter at the end to the point it feels more like an estate agent, certainly not a bank - with no indoor ATM's. I found the staff not to be as friendly as other branches which were a shame, I wasn't greeted, all the staff also seemed to be in one specific area rather than at desks ready to help and talk to customers or at the door to greet them coming in, which isn't the usual Metro Bank standard. The opening hours are amongst the best in the area, as Metro Bank opens at retail hours along with the shop which is long overdue now so credit must be due for ditching the draconian opening hours associated with banks, I must admit in cities such as Manchester and here in Liverpool it has got better, but still, Metro Bank is an industry leader on that front with this Liverpool branch being one of the few nearby stores to be open late at weekends. The overall banking experience though is below average and I probably won't bother with the in-store experience side of my Metro Bank account as it doesn't appear to be fully worth it, and this store is one of the reasons, while it does look good from the outside and makes use of a large unit which would otherwise have looked depressingly empty with good opening hours to warrant an additional star. 2*

One of two locations in the city centre, it will soon become Santander's only branch with the other branch at Church Street earmarked for closure at the end of 2019. The store is entered through a large ramp, there is often beggars around the bank which doesn't make it the nicest of places to do your banking especially when dealing with money, and sometimes the entrance can be obstructed slightly which I don't like. The staff at the bank didn't seem to be too helpful or welcoming, the store did seem understaffed and even with only 3 banking machines for paying in and withdrawing money, it didn't seem to be enough balance in with small counter space. There is a nice waiting area, or somewhere to relax for a few minutes on the free wifi at the side of the store, away from the queues and machines where there are a few nice seats in Santander colours, which alongside the location seems to be one of the few things I like about this branch which just seems too poor, generic and disappointing to warrant anything over a two-star rating.
