Another never called back after I left a message with a foreign speaking woman at reception. Probably an answering service. I began this process at 11 a.m. this morning. It's now 2:00 p.m. and Brian and John have already left my home with problem solved. Within a span of 2 hours, they called me back, arrived wearing masks (which was SO appreciated), had my boiler leak from the A/C diagnosed and were out of here with the assurance I had to let them know by tomorrow if it flooded at any time from now until then and they would return. They fully explained everything they were doing. Asked me before they replaced any new parts and I was aware of what the approximate total cost would be. They were kind, efficient and gentle. No sales pitches. Just down to earth and "let's get this fixed for you" -- and charged a reasonable fee. As a widowed 73 year old woman, this gave me great comfort. However, it spoils goodwill when you can't even get the courtesy of a return call to get that information.

I called Cote wondering why hadn't gotten by annual service contract renewal. They explained the change and told me about the Heritage Advantage Membership plan which provides discounts on repairs and purchases and discounts on maintenance. We signed up and had our first annual maintenance check since the change. Our service tech, Pharaoh, gave us a heads up that he was en-route, explained what he was going to do, how much it would cost and how long he expected it to take. He was very pleasant, completed the work promptly and cleanly. No complaints with the change to Heritage and will continue to use them for service.

I call to make an appointment and am told the price increased by over 50% (from $249 in March 2025 to $375 for March 2026). Is there a point to a service agreement if you still have to make an appointment and the price can increase by over 50% in one year? The answer is...nope. No point at all. So, I'm off to find a new service company. Here's some text from their contract (emphasis is mine): "Why should I sign up when I can just call each year for maintenance? If you call each year we will be glad to accommodate you and come and perform the PM for your generator. However, by not signing a contract you risk the possibility of a rate increase every year whereas A PM CUSTOMER IS GUARANTEED THE RATE FOR THE DURATION OF THE PM AGREEMENT (except for continuous maintenance which may be subject to rate increase). Also, PM customers are in our database and WILL NOT NEED TO CALL for PM service. A PM customer will also receive priority service, specifically when winter rolls around and we receive an increase in service calls. A PM customer will be charged a service rate of $105.00 per hr for any repairs needed, a non PM customer is charged $140.00 per hr" Note that they never called. And they immediately raised the rate. Can they do that? Yes, technically, because elsewhere they say this: "Labor will be at a rate of 80% of base rate, which is currently $140/hour and is subject to change without notice." So, yeah...they basically lie about the benefit of a service agreement and their agreement is entirely contradictory. I'd recommend you stay away from these guys. EDIT: They called me and told me that they had called to make an appointment and told me the date they called. I checked my phone (which is the number they told me they called) and my phone has no record of any call from them on that day. My text has no record of any text on that day. They also said that they had to raise their prices but offered me a comp service. I told them no thank you, as I found someone willing to do the service for very close to their old price. Therefore, I stand by my rating and review.

I accepted his price by email; and he indicated that he could start the middle of June. After I had waited a couple of weeks beyond his promised date of doing my driveway, I finally called him. He said something about me being a man of his word on the price. Even though he was higher than one company, I trusted, to my dismay, that he was a straight shooter. I asked him for a contract, and he never did send me one. I think that he had other jobs, probably paving ones that would give him more money, versus a sealcoating job. I called him another time and left a message of which it was not returned. He should at least have had the decency to tell me that he could not follow up on his promise. I finally resorted to calling other companies in late July and early August; but I feel that by waiting for Henry, I missed out on other companies scheduling my job this Summer. My wife and I finally had to sealcoat the driveway ourselves, and both of us are 77 years old! In closing, do not trust Henry on his being a "man of his word"! John C.
