I consider John way more than a handyman. He is my Boots on the Ground because i in Seattle and help out my elderly aunt who lives in a senior community in Manchester. Today, amid the virus & on short notice (I called at 8pm last night), and w full PPE precautions, he picked up my aunt's sick cat, took him to Vet Urgent Care, sat with him, called me from the vet's with a report, even sent me pictures!! John was so helpful and professional. We called him last minute to help us move a hot tub that was delivered curbside and in the middle of our driveway without our prior knowledge. He was able to come right out the next day which we were so grateful! He and his associate were able to get it moved to the backyard safely and efficiently. They placed the hot tub on the pad and uncrated it. They broke down all the packaging, bagged it up and even moved the pallet to a more convenient location. We contacted John under unique circumstances... we didn't know when we were going to be able to move in due to a very aggressive closing schedule. Additionally, we ran out of room in the trailer we were loading (my fault, not theirs) and rented a UHaul at the last minute. I have never seen a truck packed so precisely. I think part of the training for John's crew must be hours of Tetris. During this stressful time, John brought an element of calm and confidence to the situation. He reassured that we would have it all done, and after our closing on our new house, he and his would be ready to help unload. We moved from a turn of the century home with large rooms, wide doorways and high ceilings to a New England Farmhouse, where ceiling heights are much lower, and doorways do not exceed 28 inches (I gave them fair warning!). John, Andy and Joe took deep breaths and managed wonderfully. The pinnacle was when the sectional had to be moved into the playroom above the garage.... through a 28" angled door, and up a 3 foot wide staircase with two turns. After two unsuccessful attempts, Joe (who has a heart of gold and a voice of a Sopranos character) brainstormed a way to lift the couch above the rafters (in the only cathedral ceiling in the home) and bring the sectional into the playroom from above. I think it's safe to say that no matter what the challenge, John's Helping Hands will overcome it, won't give up, and will work with smiles on their faces up until the very end. We hired John's for a local move and were very disappointed with the results. They showed up on time with a rented uhaul truck and two kids with John. They moved so slowly that it really wrecked the schedule for the day. Within the first hour, the two young men that were there to move had taken two smoke breaks and we were being charged by the hour. After I spoke to John, they did speed up a little, but still no where near the skills that experienced movers have. Unfortunately, I wouldn't recommend this company to anyone. No sense of urgency and didn't seem to care we were not pleased. read more

I have been meaning to write this review since September. Life got in the way, but I should credit some of that to John's Helping Hands, as they made my move so easy I was able to just jump right back into a busy schedule the next day! I hired John to take care of a temporary move that included moving all my stuff an hour away-- some stuff into storage and some into a home. John was friendly and responsive from the beginning. While all the other moving services were sending me impersonal surveys to fill out about apartment size and the amount of furniture, John was wiling to have a human, voice-to-voice conversation about the process. He gave me a VERY good price (hundreds lower than other places!) and followed through with that. On the day of the move, he arrived a little early but had no problem with the fact that I wasn't quite ready. He and his partner loaded the truck so incredibly fast, while still taking the time to wrap my furniture in moving blankets, etc. They also fit a ton of stuff into a relatively small truck like a professional game of life-size tetris. The unload was equally as quick and painless. Overall the experience was professional, efficient, friendly, and remarkably well-priced. HI - I hired John to fix my rusty old wrought iron front door stair railings. He was able to sand them all down, prime them and paint them a beautiful semi-gloss black. They were just what we needed - a small, tactical crew to help us unload a 20' UHaul truck with everything to furnish a two-bedroom apartment. We were moving from CT to NH, had loaded up the truck ourselves, but wanted a crew to help us unload on the other end. I didn't know anyone in the Portsmouth area, so I put out a lot of bids on Yelp. Our job was big enough to require movers, but small enough that we didn't need the services of the big moving companies with their higher minimum rates, longer minimum hours and larger recommended larger crews. John was just what we needed. His prices were great, his attitude was wonderful, he and Andy worked quickly yet carefully... I would recommend him to anyone with a similar kind of move. My husband and I hired John to help us with a move from an apartment to a house about a half hour away. We hired John and his helper, Matt to do the heavy lifting for us and pack the truck, and they were pros! John was easy to talk to on the phone, and responded very quickly to my questions. We had to change their arrival time by one hour the morning of the move, and he was very understanding and flexible. We can't say enough good words about John. We called him the day before Christmas Eve for an in-house project. Not only did he manage to come by later in the afternoon, but he and his helper also finished the job in a timely and professional manner. Even though it was in the early evening when they finished the job, John didn't rush out of the door. Right from the get-go, I felt confident that John's Helping Hands was a good choice. All my conversations and emails and texts with John were prompt, professional, and thorough. I was moving a 2 bedroom apartment into a single family home (65 miles away) plus a storage facility. We had some furniture that needed to be moved out of the single family home (2nd floor) before the furniture from the apartment could be brought in.
