After putting off house maintenance and repairs, I thought I'd get an early start this year, and in the beginning days of April, I got to work. We were planning on refinancing to take advantage of rates that were still low, and I thought that if I worked hard enough, I'd have it all in the bag in a matter of a few weeks. The problem is I kept uncovering new issues. After a couple of weeks I felt a growing sense of being overwhelmed. So finally near the beginning of May, I called Team Handyman. Tom came out and assessed the situation. I could tell that he knew what he was doing. A couple of days later came a very detailed estimate broken down by task. I picked the most pressing issues to address, and after relaying this to Team Handyman, they gave us a start time of the beginning of the following week. The following Monday, at 8:00 am sharp, Scott pulled in with his truck, and I have to say I've never met anyone more friendly or enthusiastic. His first words to me after rolling out from behind the wheel were a boisterous "Good morning, sir!" - with a hearty fist bump. This was no perfunctory salutation, this was genuine. Of course it would be all for naught, if not for the quality of his work - which was exemplary. And he was quick too ... and very focused. Yet any time I cared to check to see how things were proceeding, he stopped and gave me a detailed overview of how he was attacking the problem areas. It's great when it's so obvious how much someone loves his work. His most impressive accomplishment - at least in my case - was the replacement of rotted sill along one of the garage walls. Splashing water over the years had really made a mess of things, and this was one of the most dismaying discoveries I had made after doing some digging. But Scott managed to clear out the rotted sill, jack up the garage just enough to replace it section by section and then replace the lower foot or so of the outer paneling using PVC board. It came out beautifully - wish I could post a picture. Within three days everything we had requested to be done - was. And it was under the quote. Scott came by on day 4 (Thursday) for a couple of hours just to make some last finishing touches. We soon after passed a VA appraisal with flying colors. Thanks, Team Handyman! read more

Well I am not impressed at all with these folks. We had our front stairs(cement)fixed by team handyman and a year and a half later we have to have them fixed again. A mason took a look and told us the problem, not sealed and not left to set long enough. Cannot recommend them, the stair repair should not have failed in less than two years ! Was going to have them do our bulkhead door , I did it myself and if the front stair is any indication of their work, I am glad I did it myself.Bottom line hire a real professional for major repairs not Team Handyman. read more

Turns out Team Handyman is not very handy, or much of a team. I reached out to this company in April for some roofing repairs (a few shingles) and some minor plumbing assistance. I sent photos, and we agreed on price. I was told numerous times that my project would get scheduled and done the next week. For some reason, I continued to believe this would happen and I exhibited the patience of a buddhist monk in line at the DMV, while picturing my two new roof shingles in my head...and they looked fantastic. It has been well over 2 months, and after my last communication asking when the work would be scheduled I now haven't received any response to my message in over 2 weeks. Life history has taught me this is not usually a good indicator with handymen, or women. It is clear I am now going to need to research, brief and hire another contractor to do this work. I owned a house that I wanted to get on the market in 2018. It was an on going process of things that I needed to get done. Repairs, upgrades, etc. to make it look fresh and up to date. Every time I called for help on yet another project, Team Handyman was there and got the job done quickly. They were so reliable, it actually took some of the stress of who do I call. My condo association relies heavily on Tom and his team, so when I also needed some things taken care of that we're my responsibility, I hoped that I would be pleased.... And I was MORE than pleased. They were quick to respond back to my phone call, got me estimates for a few things and showed up on time. Derek was polite, did an excellent job and left my home spotless when the job was finished. I highly recommend team handyman out of Newton, NH. They were very professional and skilled. They work on a time and material basis and they hustled all the time that they were on the job - no lounging about, coffee breaks, etc. They gave me an estimate for a 3-part job. The original work scope was done for less than the original estimate. I ended up having them do additional work while they were here. High quality workmanship. read more

I have worked with Team Handyman a couple times previously and was happy with the communication and service. My most recent interaction with them however was insulting and I will not be using them again. I initially reached out to the company in early October to set up an hour or two of odd jobs at my home. At the time with the nice weather I was told they were doing some outdoor painting and etc. and that they'd be in touch to schedule. That's fine, as long as the job is done prior to the first freeze. I waited until the first week in December to schedule, and took a day off work to be home. A half hour past the appointment time I emailed the admin to inquire where they were, at 1 hour past the appointment time I call the employees cell and the office line and couldn't reach anyone. Finally the admin called back and said that the gentleman was tied up at another job and would be another hour and a half. So now we're 3 hours late to the appointment I've been waiting for for 2 months. AND, because it gets dark early, he'd only be able to do the inside work and would have to return the following day to complete the jobs. First off, shame on me for waiting two months to schedule. It was obvious from the start that I was not a priority, but with my prior positive interactions with them I felt comfortable that I'd get taken care of. There's no excuse for someone to be more than 15 mins late for a scheduled appointment without calling to let the person know. It's not professional and it's disrespectful to your clients. To be an hour and a half late and ultimately to be at least 3 hours late, without a proactive call to your client is insulting. Worse than the cable company. I will be taking my business elsewhere. If you are unemployed and are able to wait around for someone who may or may not show up, their work is fine. read more

I hired Tom and his team to install an LVL beam in my home. Tom's communication was good, and the work they performed (at least partially) was very solid. My issue with Team Handyman is their quote process. Tom quoted me a price for the LVL beam install, including structure, installation, drywall and taping/mudding. We chose Tom, based on the quote we received because we were on a budget. The installation process, we were told would take a few days. After day 1 I found an invoice on my counter when I returned home from work. The invoice was close to the total quote for the project. I figured that was the total cost for the project. I was wrong. On day 2 I called Tom because I had a 2nd invoice on my counter left by the person who completed the work for the day. With two invoices, we were already well over the quote and our budget and only about halfway completed. I asked Tom why I received another invoice. He explained to me that they bill daily based on the work they perform for that day. This was the first time this was explained to me. Based on the remainder of the work to be completed, Tom informed me that the total cost would be close to double their quote. Unfortunately, I had to ask Tom and his team to not complete the remainder of the work, because we were already so far over the quote he had provided. Tom explained that these types of projects are difficult to quote, because if they quote too high, they will not win the business. I felt a bit mislead at that point and decided to finish the work on my own. I will say that the work that was completed was done very well, however be careful when using this company (especially if you are on a budget) because their quoting process needs work. read more
