This Vegas spot in the Via Via Food Hall is amazing because the service is so fast. Chicken Sandwich: Still the gold standard. I remember way back when I used to eat at Howlin' Ray's in Chinatown in Downtown Los Angeles. There was always a line wrapped around the plaza. It was like a line at Disneyland. It was absolutely well-worth the wait though. I happened to be staying at The Venetian and after I checked in and headed to my room, I looked at their food court and saw Howlin' Ray's in big letters. It caught my attention right away. I was so thrilled and knew I had to add it to my list of places to eat while I was in Vegas. We went right after we checked out of our hotel. Let me tell you... it was just as good and juicy as I remembered. Their sandwich is a standout for a reason. It's full of flavor, so moist, and had just a brush of heat. My kids are picky eaters and they ate all of the fries and tenders. Of course I got country - no heat for them. The drinks were refreshing, too. I love a good sweetened Peach Tea. read more

I've been to the OG one (LA Chinatown). Quality is comparable, without the long waits. Pros: line was 5 min long, food took another 5 minutes. Located inside Venetian in the food courts. Cons: 15-40% upcharge compared to the equivalent menu at this exact moment in LA Chinatown. With food quality comparable to LA, you are paying a bit of premium for convenience and time savings. A bit hard to find (which is partly why the lines are shorter) We got the sando and a tender, with a side of comeback sauce. Already $23, which is about 1.5x what I remembered paying (inflation adjusted for), and the portions are smaller, but I don't need to wait 2 hrs physically in line. I value my time more than saving $10 for 2 hrs line, so it evens out. I love how juicy the chicken is, and also the flavor - I have been to a bunch of hot chicken places in Nashville, and Howlin' Rays does it better still. read more

The obvious winner was the medium heat chicken. It was seasoned PERFECTLY without being hot at all. Fries- 2/5 looked way better than it tasted Chicken strips mild- 2/5 Chicken strips medium- 5/5 Chicken sandwich medium- 5/5 Make sure you bring your water bottle or soda cuz a can of soda will cost you $5 and they don't give out any free tap water. Its been a while since I've been to the HR in LA Chinatown. I hardly go to DTLA any longer, so the Chinatown location is too far. I stayed at the Palazzo on a recent trip to Vegas, and made sure I hit the HR in Via Via Food Hall. The 3 wing meal did not disappoint. The chicken was plump, and expertly seasoned with the dusting and sauce. The pickles & white bread contrasted nicely with the savory & spicy chicken. The food hall has plenty of room to spread out and share a meal. The food takes a while so be patient. I am glad the Vegas location is as good as the LA location. My hubby got the hottest one and they warned us at every step that it was very hot. To note, you can charge your order to the room if you are staying at the property. We ordered the The Sando, the chicken wings, fries and an order of comeback sauce. My wife said the 3 wings were were flavorful and juicy. We really enjoyed the crispiness and seasoning of their crinkle cut fries. As for the The Sando, I got it with Medium Spice and the Sando was extremely good. Each bite was bursting with flavor. Im a huge fan of Howlin Rays and I used to wait multiple hours in line for the one in Los Angeles. After seeing they had a Howlin Rays in Las Vegas I had to try it. I was initially worried that the flavor was not going to be maintained at the new store but there was honestly nothing to worry about. This location was as good as the one in LA and I was so satisfied at the end of my meal. I ordered a sando, a tender and a wing all medium spice and they were all made to perfection. The chicken is as tender as I remember it was from my last visit at Howlin Rays. The flavors and attention to detail on their spices and preparation for their chicken is miles better than their closest competitor. The fries are cooked perfectly and seasoned with their hot chicken spices and is something you should not pass on. They also have canned sweet tea and non sweet tea. I got non sweetened one which was great with the food. The service and staff are all friendly and the restaurant itself has the classic Howlin Rays iconic feel. The restaurant is located in a small food court in the Venetian near the casino by the North Suites. Plenty of seating. If anyone is in Vegas I would 100% try these guys out. read more

The Venetian's Via Via Food Hall has been open for little over half a year now, bringing many new eateries to the casino floor. And of these spots, Howlin' Ray's has been a very popular option for those looking for some chicken. Having heard rave reviews of this spot, I figured I would give them a try. Located in the left rear section of the food hall, Howlin' Rays had a small line when I dropped by around 12PM on a Friday. And after waiting for a little, I made my way up to the ordering counter and ordered their three jumbo tenders ($15) at the mild spice level and a side order of shake fries ($5). The food was ready pretty quickly and I decided to take my food to-go due to the volume of people eating in the food hall. Looking in the box, the spread of food was quite simple: 3 large chicken tenders, four pickles, and a piece of toast. For the 15 dollar price tag, the tenders alone were enough and I felt full. Each tender had plenty of meat and I never felt the breading was too much. Because of this, the price-to-portion ratio was one of the best I've seen on the strip. Looking at the fries next, the order would equate to about a small or medium fries at a typical place. For five dollars, it can appear to be somewhat expensive. But if you're adding this on as a side to the regular tenders, the total $20 price tag is fair from the price-to-portion perspective. Taste-wise, the tenders were very good! At the mild spice level, there was some kick to them. But with a small spice tolerance, I never had to reach for a bottle of water. Each tender had a good balance of breading and the outer coating was well seasoned, perfectly spicy, and lightly crispy. The best part about this chicken is that each tender was moist despite the large chicken pieces. When I finished them all, the only thing I would have wanted was a fourth tender! In tandem, the pickles were pretty standard and a nice pairing for the spicy tenders. And on the bottom, the bread helped to absorb lingering spice as I was eating the pieces of chicken. Finally, the fries were also very delicious! Seasoned with the same spices as the tenders, the fries were also lightly crisp and crinkle cut to perfection. Next time I drop by, I'm going to try the medium spice to see what the difference is. But if you have a higher spice tolerance, I was told their HOT and above are all brushed with ghost peppers. As I was passing by, someone eating the HOT tenders was constantly reaching for liquid so they seem like the real deal. But nonetheless, Howlin' Rays easily earns a 5 star rating in my book. With a great price to portion ratio, especially in a higher-tier resort like the Venetian, it's affordable for those looking to eat some quality food. And because the chicken tenders were very tasty, it only makes me want to come back here sooner. Give them a try and see what you think! read more

The wife wanted to try the Italian sandwich spot since we had been to the original one in Rome. But I ate at the Mexican spot. We have stood in 30-60 minute lines at the original location in Los Angeles. There was no line in Las Vegas. The food tasted the same as the Los Angeles location. Went with Chicken Sando (slae on side), Mild, Fries, small Evian, Howlin' Sweet Peach Tea and side of Tennessee dressing (ranch with more dill). Even though it was prime lunch time, it didn't take long for the order to be ready. With the slaw on the side, it really helped to leverage it against the spice of the sandwich. The kicked up Ranch, taste great and goes well on both the chicken and fries. The sandwich itself is huge and I got thru about 3/4 of it. The Howlin peach sweet tea was a tad too sweet for my taste but it did taste good. As far as popular Cali hot chicken brands, I'd say this one is worth giving a try. read more

Then there are some sides. Nothing to write home about. I chose the Sando with everything (boneless breast, comeback sauce, pickles, and slaw on a butter bun). I kept wondering, how can they serve breast chicken meat that is usually very dry. But they did and that too, in a moist, tender and flavorful fashion. You get the option to choose 6 different heat levels. I went with medium (feel the burn). How was it? Fantastic. The fried chicken was optimally crisped to emanate a balance between crunch and the spice flavor. The chicken itself, really impressed me. All the ingredients were well balanced and constructed. We decided on Howlin' Ray's and ordered a three piece chicken tender medium, added a side of fries and one of each sauce. The girl at the counter was polite and efficient and I placed and paid for my order quickly. Our order was ready in about eight minutes and the fries were hot & crisp and seasoned well.
