We try to support local Kingwood are restaurants and hadn't been to Union Kitchen in quite a while. We arrived and asked for a table for 6, the dining room was busy so they said it would be a few minutes. Then 3 more of our group we hadn't expected arrived and the hostess quickly let the servers know to make our table larger. We only had to wait 8 or 9 minutes and were seated in the side dining room which was great as it was not crowded so it was easy to talk without a lot of ambient noise from the more crowded main room. I believe one of the assistant managers began taking drink orders as our designated server was finishing up some tables nearby. She had a great sense of humor and quickly went to get our drinks. FYI, they have both an All Day menu and a lunch special one which we hadn't seen before a their website so that is an option and is a bit less expensive with smaller servings than the All Day one. As it was April 15, they had a special small Tax Day menu where everything was prices at $4.15! What a cute idea! We all ordered our lunches and soon we were enjoying what was brought out. I had the special lentil soup and the blackened salmon tacos, my wife had the 1/2 lb classic burger and the house made potato chips. Everything was excellent. Glad we stopped by for our group lunch.

I will definitely give Happy hour menu a thumbs up…read more Customer Service needs improvement

The service was very fast, which was impressive considering how busy it was. Our server, Kimberly, was super nice, attentive, and made sure we had everything we needed. She really made the experience even better. The food was very good and came out quickly and fresh. The ambiance was really good too -- warm, cozy, and welcoming, which made the whole experience even more enjoyable.

It was disappointing because we've had wonderful experiences at the Lufkin location while traveling to visit our daughter during college. The difference between the two locations has always been noticeable, and unfortunately, our recent visit confirmed that this location still hasn't turned things around. Since we eat out frequently, we decided to give it another chance and hoped things had improved. Sadly, they seem to have gotten worse. Our server, Luna, appeared to be very new and lacked the training or support she needed. I don't place the blame solely on her because everyone has to learn somewhere, but it was evident that no one was mentoring or assisting her. There were only about five or six tables dining at the time, and it appeared she was only responsible for our table while other servers handled the rest of the restaurant. Service was extremely slow from the start. We waited for drinks, bread, refills, and basic table attention, often wondering if she was coming back. When our meals arrived, my husband's dinner was missing half of the sides that were listed on the dinner menu. When we asked about it, she initially insisted that everything had been served and even brought us a breakfast menu to explain it. However, we had ordered from the dinner menu, which clearly listed additional sides. Once we showed her the correct menu, the mistake was acknowledged, but the missing items came out one at a time over an extended period. The final side didn't arrive until after we had already finished eating, so we ended up taking it home for our dog. My son ordered the chicken noodle soup, only to be told it wasn't available. He was offered the Campfire Chicken Soup instead, which was essentially chicken broth with vegetables and chicken--but no noodles. It was very disappointing, and he only ate a couple of spoonfuls. My mother ordered the Country Fried Steak and also only managed a few bites because it simply wasn't very good. The bright spot was my Campfire Chicken meal, which I actually enjoyed. Beyond our own table, we noticed several dirty tables sitting uncleared while plenty of servers were on the floor. The restaurant gave the overall impression of being neglected rather than simply busy. We never once saw a manager checking on guests, assisting staff, or ensuring everything was running smoothly. That was perhaps the most disappointing part of the evening. Good management can make all the difference, especially when newer employees need guidance. I still enjoy browsing the Cracker Barrel store and usually stop in once or twice a year because they always have unique gifts, seasonal décor, and fun items. It's the restaurant that continues to disappoint. It's honestly sad to see. We've watched several Cracker Barrel locations close over the years, and while I'd hate to see this one suffer the same fate, I can understand why customers may choose not to return if experiences like ours continue. Judging by how few guests were dining during dinner, I doubt we're the only ones who have felt this way. I truly hope this location receives the leadership, training, and attention it needs. Cracker Barrel has always been a place known for comfort, hospitality, and consistency, and I would love nothing more than to be able to change this review after a future visit.

After being seated, it seemed the waitstaff forgot about us. We went to the bar and politely brought it to their attention. What impressed me most was how the situation was handled. The staff took full accountability, apologized, and even brought us complimentary garlic knots. That's how you run a business. Since it was our first visit, our waiter took the time to recommend some of the restaurant's favorites. The manager also stopped by our table to check on our experience. When we told her how kind and attentive our waiter had been, she surprised us with a complimentary Parry's beer cup and bottle opener. The food was fresh, delicious, and exceeded our expectations. The garlic knots were incredibly soft, buttery, and packed with garlic flavor. The atmosphere was perfect for watching the game, and the customer service turned what could have been a negative first impression into a memorable experience. We'll definitely be back!

I had the Bolognese and my wife had the Nashville Hot Chicken sandwich. First off the Bolognese was one of the best I've ever had and I grew up with old Italians who prided themselves in their sauce. Reminded me of home. My wife's sandwich was so big she had to cut it in half. She said it was really good and that they could just serve it without the bun and it would be a hit. Ended up taking half of it home which I finished later in the evening and I have to agree. It was a really good chicken sandwich. And I can't forget the fries. They were great too. Congrats to the chefs on a job well done.

We shared the boneless buffalo wings to start, and then we ordered two medium ribeyes and a pulled-pork platter. Unfortunately, both steaks came out well-done instead of medium, so we had to send them back. I'm really glad they were willing to redo them, but for a place that specializes in steaks, you'd hope they'd get that part spot-on the first time. Aside from that hiccup, the service was fantastic, they are super friendly and attentive, which made the experience much better. All in all, some great moments, but hoping for a bit more consistency next time, especially with the steaks.
