My food card would deactivate randomly and I would go days without food, my card for the garage would malfunction and I would be locked in the garage because of this, I had my belongings stolen from roommates that I was paired with and when I made a report they did nothing about it, I moved into their dorms only to move in with an old friend of mine, and they went out of their way to make sure I did not get a dorms with him even though all the requirements were met. This school struggles in the class departments too, I have had the displeasure of meeting quite a few nasty professors and find it disheartening for all the students here. I was charged for 2 years of dormitory and a meal plan even though I was only there for one and when I went to dispute the charge they simply ignored my email and then sent me an email to pay it back and said it was to late to dispute the charges. I honestly recommend no one goes to this location for their schooling and I hope this school finds new management because it is just a money hungry organization that does not care about its students.

I recently attended an event at this College of Law and wanted to say what a lovely hidden gem it…read moreis. I had never really taken any notice of the building downtown until this past week. I guess one of the organizers for the event had a friend at the college of law, because the event I went to had nothing to do with law or the college. There is a lovely space on the 6th floor that has a large outdoor garden and terrace. Our event was great, but what really made it a fun evening was the space. The garden outside (sorry no photos) has a variety of places to sit and stand. There are potted plants, benches, and it wraps around the building. From the terrace you can see the Toyota Center, and it looks out toward Discovery Green even though you can't see the green itself. You can also see off to EaDo and parts of downtown. If I was given the chance, I would definitely go to or host an event there again. Anywhere with an open rooftop terrace downtown is a winner in my book, especially on a cool breezy February evening!

Can you really claim that a law school is a business?…read more I guess I'll go with the flow then. It is the oldest law school in Houston and the third oldest (est. 1923) in all of Texas; that's a pretty big feat (everything's bigger in...oh you know) considering the size of this State. South Texas College of Law was one of my top choices of law schools to attend. I had participated in an orientation for prospective students a few months before applying and fell in love with the facilities that this school provided. Their library is extensive, their decor is aesthetically pleasing, and they boast state of the art facilities. First off, the law school is separated into two buildings, the tower and the library. The tower houses all the classrooms and Professor offices; the library portion houses, well, the library and study rooms. I'll start with what makes/breaks the tower side. First off, the rooms are considerably advanced as far as technology. They have flat screen televisions and computers as well as a plug for laptops at each chair in the room. The one negative about the classrooms is that the wireless, for some reason, does not reach for the majority of classrooms. This could be looked as a positive, though, for those who find internet a distraction. The library is a great place, though...at least when you're not having to study. The wireless reaches on every level (once you actually figure out how to get it working) and the study rooms provide a substantial hiding place for extensive studies; most everyone is accommodating to the need for quiet. Each floor of the library has around nine tables complete with lamps that have ethernet plugs and power outlets built into them; the chairs aren't too shabby for comfort either. I love the fact that each floor has walls of windows that look out to the Toyota Center and the hustle & bustle below; this blows other schools out of the water when it comes to libraries (*cough* Rice *cough*, sorry but your library is claustrophobic). The public is allowed to use our library with a valid ID shown to the front desk security. One of my favorite spots in the school is the patio on the roof of the library. It is an amazing place to relax and take in the wonderful weather afforded us every once in awhile in Texas; sometimes you can even find someone talking about topics other than the upcoming finals or law school in general (that is always a relief, who wants to talk about law school while we're standing on top of the law school?) The staff is always willing to work with you on anything you need. They all seem to support you and push to give you everything necessary for a positive atmosphere; Lord knows we law school kids need it! During each finals period the school provides a masseuse that sits in the foyer and gives massages by appointment. The thing that had drawn me to this school is the fact that every lawyer I talk to tells me South Texas not only teaches you the law but it is the only school that teaches you how to be a lawyer. Case in point, the Moot Court team is #1 in the nation with over 100 wins (even over Harvard). If you're going to have to put yourself through hell (a.k.a law school in general) then you might as well attend a school you actually enjoy being in.

In response to the owner, Carolyn - who I have never personally met, I would like to acknowledge…read morethat I openly shared my personal experience in my review, so to call it 'misinformation' sheds light on her as an owner. It is clear to me now how in the dark she is, because I have had a one-on-one sit down with my Phase I instructor, I have had a group sit down with my Phase I instructor, and I also had a personal sit down with the Director of the school herself. I expressed my concerns many times over, sadly the owner lacks communication with her faculty and staff. I hope the school seeks to improve their reports so that in the future, Carolyn may have a productive discussion with the next unhappy student. Carolyn claims to 'take great pride in providing students with the best training possible for them to ace their state exams and obtain their license' yet their pride was nowhere to be found when my LEFT handed shears, which were specifically ordered for me, were there one day, and gone the next. Not only was I missing promised implements personally, but my whole class, and the class before us, were missing the cases to our Chi sponsored Phase II kits. These materials are very much indeed in your and the school's control. I am all for structure and abiding by a dress code, but if it is truly there to protect me, why was I put in a position to buy a pair of socks, or go home? I knew missing a day meant missing hours, but I would much rather give up 5 hours than $5. I knew where my hours went, but I could not say the same about my money. I understand the Director's intentions were to monitor students' dress code, but to press on students like a warden presses on prisoners is completely out of line.

Not enough teachers available for programs. The school esthetician tuition itself is an estimate of around 10,125.00. The process i was given when signing up is they require a $287 deposit up front paid to the school, $85 for a required mannequin head they said i would use on my first day which they provided which i didnt use, $15 for photo ID i never received, $25 for TDR, plus a $400/ monthly payment. Now come Monday, my first day of school, I was advised to arrive early in uniform with my $85 for the mannequin head that I would be using that day. I was then introduced to the current teacher for that day Ms. Zamora. As this is my first day of class, they have had Spanish students translate things the teachers were not able to fluently speak. Although that wasn't a huge problem the first day, it then became an everyday problem. I was given my books that Monday, my first day of class and they were already in the middle of a chapter which was Makeup Chapter 12. I was under the impression I came in, all the "new" class students start with each other on chapter 1 like any other school, instead they have you pick up where they left off which was chapter 12 for me. Not professional at all! We went through 3-4 pages of the basic makeup for the first part of theory. When it came time for practicals, they brought in Ms. Sol, who does not speak fluent English at all, instead had another student translate everything she said. During practicals we are supposed to be doing what we learned in class that day hands on. Instead, we sat and watched youtube videos on make-up instead of Ms Sol showing us physically as it states in the program. Some students were in and out of the class working on other things because some of the students are in phase 2 and 3 opposed to me just starting. I started in phase 1. So everything was unorganized, they had me watching youtube on make-up, some girls doing makeup on themselves, some doing waxing on others, all in the same room as well as some walking in and out of the theory room vs the actual service room. I have never been so lost on my first day of school and I am an adult. So on my first day I did nothing but highlight 3-4 pages in a book and watch youtube videos. My 3rd day of class I came in a bit disappointed and had been questioning everyone when the new teacher arrived. 20 minutes into class we still had NO theory teacher, but Ms. Sol came in to advise us to just work on what we wanted until practical's started as we didn't have a teacher at the moment. At this point 45 min into class, she then pulled me and another student out of class to go do my Orientation in another room. Why am I having my Orientation 3 days after starting school? I am not sure why. So, Ms. Sol had the other student pretty much skim over everything I needed to know and what to expect moving forward. Now as I was going through the details, I was advised that although the program lists a lot of things, I will NOT be learning half of it. The ENTIRE first week i had NO TEACHER! Come my 4th day of class that Thursday I had made up my mind if there was no teacher or explanation on what was really going on I was going to drop the school. I get to class Thursday of course I have no teacher, and it is the same routine. Students come in and we either read the book or watch YouTube. Or the students may go directly into practical's. After I realized what was going on I made it a priority that Friday to get off work early and head to the school to resign. This has been a horrible experience. Instead, they are only concerned about the funds being paid. Not once did the director Mrs. Jaimes apologize, try to offer a discount for the inconvenience of the first week or anything. I was only offered to come back the following week to see "if" they will have a teacher available and if not, I could still drop. At this point, I have lost money enrolling in school here, ordering uniforms and scrubs along with shoes for the dress code, driving across town 35min every day in traffic, on top of them not advising there was no teacher for the night classes. I offered to return ALL supplies given to me as they have not been used or opened to this day, she looked me in my eyes and told me they were not able to accept it, as I am sure it was because they wanted to keep the money like they have done previously per the yelp reviews. I understand if the school was organized, detailed oriented, on one accord, and had a set schedule for the days for when certain chapters are worked for certain phases as students come in, and have available teachers instead EVERYTHING was disorganized, dysfunctional, and very unprofessional with NO TEACHERS!
