Unsure if this is because I'm a woman or that's unrelated. Last week, I gave the gym another shot. I planned to do a drop-in, but the owner insisted I sign up. Since then, I've been repeatedly scolded for: - Taking phone calls, even with headphones. - Filming more than just my top set (which then ended up out of frame). - Filming accessories, despite needing to track an injury. - Having my tripod at a visible height, even though I ensure no one else is in frame. The worst was when I filmed myself alone in the bathroom mirror (fully clothed), stopped as soon as the owner's wife walked in, yet still got chewed out. That same day, the gym posted a rant calling social media lifters "fame-seekers" while selectively endorsing/ reposting others' Instagram posts. I left feeling anxious about getting yelled at again. None of these "rules" were communicated upfront--I was just reprimanded after the fact.

    I began training with Josh at Training Revelations in 2015.  By far, this is the longest I have…read moreever maintained a consistent workout  routine in my life.  I attribute this in large part to Josh's specific approach to personal training and wellness. Josh is extremely knowledgeable about all facets of the body, exercise, gym equipment, and nutrition.  These skills became apparent  when he designed and implemented an individualized training program for me.  He focuses on helping you achieve long-term fitness goals, but adjusts workouts weekly and monthly to meet your particular needs at different stages along your fitness journey.  For example, before I started working with Josh, I had lower back pain that would flair up  from time to time.  Josh has been mindful of my injury history, while modifying workouts, catering to any limitations I might have, so I can continue to progress.  Over the years he has helped me develop a stronger, and more resilient core, which has substantially reduced the frequency of painful back episodes I used to have. Josh is also good at understanding my current mental and physical capacity for training on any given day.  As a result, he is able to  make adjustments to my program which set me up for success, despite work fatigue, or occasional lapses in motivation.  This means he understands when I can be pushed hard, and when I need a lighter day if I'm particularly burned out for other reasons. This has enabled me to maintain my fitness routine during the past 5 years without dreading them.  I enjoy my workouts which hasn't always been the case  with prior training experiences. The Training Revelations studio is great.  The facility and equipment is comprehensive, clean, and orderly.  Because only one client is working out at a time, it reinforces how personalized the experience truly is. I also want to note that during the COVID-19 crisis, Josh has made himself available through video conferencing to help me continue to maintain an exercise routine at home.  I definitely recommend Training  Revelations for personal training! Josh's expertise, and unique approach to training, has allowed me to consistently work out in a way  that is sustainable for the long term.

I'm also lazy when it comes to exercise and physical motivation. I knew I needed a trainer, but was afraid of injuring myself and of being intimidated. Josh is certainly extremely knowledgeable about the physical components of training, such as anatomy and safety. But the most valuable and important attribute he has provided is that he LISTENS! Before I formally started working with Josh, we talked. Our conversation involved more than collecting medical information and was definitely NOT a sales pitch. Josh actively asked about my goals and fears, and why I wanted to train. He was very clear about what training could and could not do to help me meet my goals, and also what would be expected of me. As far as the inevitable training question--"Does he kick your ass?" Yes, when I genuinely need it. But in 100% of our time together, Josh has always treated me with courtesy, respect and a sense of humor.

I left a chain at this location when I visited from out of town. This chain was nothing special, but had great sentimental value to me. Upon learning that I had lost it, I had already left Pittsburgh. I spoke to Stephanie on the phone and not only did she have the necklace, but she was willing to go to the Post Office and send it back to me. I was so relieved. She was loud, rude and flat out disrespectful. I was shocked to be treated so poorly in a PF and I have been in PFs all over the country. Worst manager and gym experience by far. I'm not sure who made her a manager but if treating paying clients so poorly is an option I can't imagine how employees must be suffering through her power tripping. Corporate should look into her and her customer service, manners and treatment of people. I'm sure I'm not the only one she has treated like garbage, snarled at and looked down her nose at. When I said I needed to make a complaint she made it clear that it was her store, she's the manager and my complaint would go nowhere. There are several closer gyms that I'll need to look at but I wanted to be sure that I shared my experience here with you all. Customer reviews genuinely effect the way my friends, family and I spend our hard earned money and precious time and I'd say the same for most others.

I knew this, but I didn't know HOW to do better. So, I reached out to Kelly because I realized I needed to make a shift. I honestly had no idea what I was in store for. I had joined a recipe challenge with Kelly in the past, so I assumed some great recipes and meal prepping would be the answer. HAH! That was not the case and, had that been all I received, it would have only been a temporary solution for me, personally, because I lacked some fundamentals that will carry me confidently into the rest of my life. Kelly spent so much time with me (online/phone) to learn about my current situation (body weight, measurements, daily eating routine, types of food I like, etc.). Soon, I received a weekly list of meals and ingredients that correlate to my personal taste. I also received alternative foods and suggestions. Kelly explained exactly how many calories, fat, carbs, and protein I needed to transform by body to what I was looking to achieve. I'm going to be 100% honest: I thought, "Is this one more thing I need to manage? I don't have time for this..." When I discovered that I would have to actually learn and integrate something new into my life, I was instantly resistant, but Kelly calmed me down and assured me I could handle it. She was right and I realized that becoming more aware of how often I eat and what I put in my body was necessary and NOT a big deal. It just became part of my routine...it became second nature...easy breezy!! By the way, I have not felt any "lack" - I love the food I eat, and I do not feel deprived at all. Kelly REALLY helped pave the path for a lifetime of good choices. I feel good and I am confident in my body! Thank you Kelly!!! P.S. This process was all done virtually! I spent a year or longer after moving to Pittsburgh attending classes in many different gyms around the city. I've found other establishments that I enjoy and get great work outs in and click with the coaches but no one compares to the service received at Panthro from Chris and his team. Chris is passionate and knowledgeable in what he does with clients. Not only have I seen some of the best results in my body but feel great and know I'm at the strongest I've been. No doubt I'm going into 30 in the best shape of my life. Chris frequently checks in and remembers problem areas or things I have been working on. If I'm having trouble with an area, he is quick to suggest and demonstrate specific stretches and adjust any of the days work out to ensure the best and most effective experience. Seriously cannot recommend this place enough!! I have 2-3 gyms on my list that I love in Pittsburgh but hands down, Panthro is it! It's small, intimate and such a welcoming gym. Class experience: Whether strength or bootcamp, every class feels new, thoughtful, and carefully designed to work my body. The trainers are always very helpful in providing modifications to exercises to accommodate injuries. The trainers also are helpful in providing feedback on form and motivation. For me, it feels like I have my own personal trainer for a fraction of the price. Community: Not only are the trainers amazing at Panthro, but the people who go to Panthro are as well. When you go to Panthro, you also join a friendly and encouraging community. Results: My body is noticeably different now from when I started. I am stronger and have better muscle definition--receiving multiple compliments from friends and family. The result I appreciate the most is a significant reduction in injuries and recovery times. Pulling a muscle in my back at home? Nope Fatigued after a vigorous day of yard work or helping someone move? Nada. My main motivation for going to the gym is to care for my body and enable me to live my best life--Panthro certainly provides that value for me.
