Just had my first introductory session with Gina. For context, I have a Merrithew SPX reformer at…read morehome. I moved away from the "studio" I have used for the last 10 or so years, and needed to find a new one. It's hard now to measure any studio against you have had such a long and great relationship with. The studio has a variety of tables & machines (not my brand, but ...) and other techniques (or programs) - TRX. After an hour of putting me through my paces, assessing my skills & fitness, to see where I would fit into group classes, I feel pretty good about Gina & the studio. It's not my first home, but I think I'll grow to fit in. Gina has a great personality for a trainer; personable, knowledgeable, and thoughtful. I decided after my experience to sign up for the group classes, the first two between or calendars, all future are via the Internet, conveniently from home. I highly recommend if your are curious able Pilates or looking for a studio, you give Gina a try.

Cynthia took care, early on, to make sure that I never overextended myself and used proper form to avoid injury. So often I would fall back into my old habits. You know, head forward, shoulders hunched, etc. With gentle coaching I was able to correct my posture during exercises to gain the full benefit of my efforts. On departing Sequim, I continued to practice. It's really changed my life, and I've continued to book a session with Cynthia whenever I return.

I truly highly recommend Cindy Gabriel of Active Life Pilates (formerly Burton Pilates). She is…read morealso a Certified Teacher of Gyrotonics, which has hugely benefited my body. I'm in my late fifties now, have always been active and fairly flexible but hated exercise partly because increasingly, I would do it too hard too fast (and now I know with improper alignement) and injure myself. I came to Cindy about a year ago while dealing with chronic back pain for which I was seeing a chiropractor (Dr. Cox at Sound Health Chiropractic). I knew I needed to strengthen my body to help hold the excellent adjustments made my Dr.Cox. I can't say enough about the benefits of Cindy's coaching, even on a once a week basis. She has taught me/is teaching me proper alignment which is so essential in every day life, let alone exercise. The routines are demanding but not overly so and I have learned that harder does not always benefit more. A great relief. Cindy adapts to my needs each week. I have since added my own daily (and easy) exercise routine at home. I can follow the DVD instructions easily because of Cindy's careful coaching. Needless to say, the benefits have multiplied. For someone who hated exercise, I am amazed: I feel so much stronger, as if my body were one tight unit rather than an assembly of dangling part. I actually miss the routines when I have to skip a day at home or a week of more intensified workout with Cindy. The effects are so tangible. Thanks Cindy!

It's been a very long time since I had a gym membership. My wife signed us up for Hot Worx before…read moreit was even built. It seemed like something different and I had not heard of Hot Worx. I'm sure glad she did it. First and foremost we can embark on this fitness journey together. The rest is the concept of exercising in a hot sauna might be beneficial. I went to my orientation and got my iPhone set up with the apps. The employee who took me through was a gem. She seemed knowledgeable and passionate about what they do there. The dependence on my phone as I exercise is not my favorite but it's necessary and I understand that. Technology is interwoven into everything we do anyway. I like how clean it is inside and it's all brand new. They require you to purchase their mat and exercise towel and they're the only mats allowed. Also get yourselves a pedicure because no shoes and socks in the saunas except for cycle and rowing. There are many programs to take advantage of. All of them are inside a sauna with the exception of the free weight section. There is cycling, yoga, stretching, rowing etc. the list is online. It's all led by virtual instructors. Again you will need your cell phone to start and track all your programs. For my first try I did the cycle workout. It's only 15 minutes but it was intense. Especially in a wooden box at 125 degrees. I thought I would have a problem breathing hot air but it didn't really affect me. I've been in saunas with the hot rocks and water bucket and it's hard to breathe. The saunas at Hot Worx are infrared so maybe that's why. I also did the Hot Barre None program and that kicked my butt big time. Every movement was precise and isolated muscles. I was wiped out after 40 minutes. You schedule your sessions through the app. It lets you see if anyone is in the time slots you want (max of 3) so you can decide if you want in with others or not. Personally I think three might too many for some of the saunas like the Hot Barre None. I was in there by myself. With two others it might seem claustrophobic. The place is open 24/7 and there's a second app you use to unlock the door. Staff is there during the day certain hours but mostly its just the patrons. Today I was in there with all women. I didn't see a man anywhere unless I looked in a mirror. I'm sure I forgot some features but I'll leave up to you dear reader to go on down to Hot Worx and find out for yourself. If you see a sweaty red faced middle aged man about to keel over it's probably me. Happy exercising!

Pros: - You can select the temperature of the saunas…read more- Virtual instructors lead the workout so you never feel on the spot - You can cross train using different workouts - Free weights are available (but in a small area and they are NOT allowed in sauna) - 24/7 access using an app and there are two panic-button necklaces for safety if you are alone in the studio - The video reminds you to clean the equipment and wipes are provided - Staff is very friendly and I have seen them cleaning often when I am in the studio during day time hours Cons: - Other people can book the sauna at the same time with you. I dislike this for many reasons. 1. I use this method of workout to reduce human interaction. 2. If I decide to relax and use it truly as a sauna or meditate, I cannot. Or other times I do my own workout - which I can't when someone else is there. 3. The sauna is just too small to fit three people. 4. Plus this requires a compromise on the setting of the sauna temperature.... I wish you could block the time out and if you choose to, "invite" others to your work out session - You can't stretch out from one end of the sauna to the other - Lack of variety of the same classes (the same workouts repeat over and over again) - You are required to buy products to support the sauna (mat, towel, bands) for ISO workouts ($$$ upfront) - Certain workouts aren't available during times that are convenient (for example if I can only workout M-F at 4:30AM - only 4 of the 9 ISO workouts are available). - You must use the App to track your progress *and there are glitches at times
