Just to follow-up... Jim, from Hotmixx, contacted us shortly after I posted my review yesterday. He asked if he could come out to chat about the issues we were having with the paving job Hotmixx did. He came over and then followed up the next day (today) by repaving the driveway. It looks 100 times better!! It looks the way we expected it to look in the first place and we are much happier with the work. Additionally, Jim said that instead of a one year warranty, Hotmixx was going to extend the warranty to two years, just to make sure we are satisfied While we were less than thrilled with the initial effort, we are pleased with Hotmixx's responsiveness in correcting the issues. Worse nightmare realized. Contractor took a 50% deposit of 9250.00. They sent ill trained people to work 1 day at the site and complete 5% of the needed work. Then left their equipment for over a week and would not return calls. Finally we were told that they had cash flow problems and needed a further 4,500.00 before they could complete the job. This is a small company. Owner refuses to speak on the phone or meet at the site to resolve the problem. read more

Stay away from this company! This is the worst service we have ever had! My husband hired them to repave our driveway. The most unprofessional crew came to work, they did such a terrible job as they used a bucket, a shovel, and a blow torch to work on the driveway for a whole day. They left our yard, the sidewalk, and the street a mess. They left some of their equipment in our yard. In the following from completion, my husband who has a truck, and I have a small suv, our tires dented the driveway and the edges began crumbling. We have been calling them to come review their work and to fix the issues and we have been having such a hard time, a)getting ahold of anyone or having anyone call us back, and b) when we finally get ahold of them and schedule a time for them to come, they don't show. They were supposed to be here tonight between 6-7pm, we called and surprisingly they answered, saying they won't be here for another hour... anyone want to bet that they won't show? Not impressed. When we initially engaged Hott Mixx to pave our parking lot, we were offered one price, we agreed upon that price, we signed a contract, and then HotMixx came back with a 15% increase and a new "stronger base" proposal. It begs the question of why wasn't that stronger base offered in the original quote? Nonetheless, in the interest of getting the best product, we agreed to the 15% price increase and moved forward. If that was the only issue, I wouldn't have even mentioned it...Strike one. In retrospect, moving forward was a mistake. When the day came to pave our parking lot, Hott Mixx indicated that they were supposed to have two trucks doing the job so that all the asphalt is basically laid at the same time. Apparently, one driver didn't show up on the day of the job so they went ahead and did the job with one truck; the result is three very visible strips of asphalt. Strike two. Now after only 2 years, there are spots where the asphalt is starting to crumble. I e-mailed Hott Mixx about this issue and heard nothing for over three weeks. I eventually received a phone call and some excuse about catching up on e-mail (You run a business and it takes you three weeks to respond to e-mails?. I scheduled a meeting with the General Manager, Mr. Houston, to see what options were available. I took the morning off from work and waited for 3 hours - Hott Mixx never showed and never called. I haven't heard anything from Hott Mixx since. Strike three. The bottom line is, the paving job is sub-par and this company's customer service is non-existent. read more

I had HotMixx do asphalt work for me on a job in Waterford where we did a garage addition. Another crew had bungled the job of patching the existing drive in two places. HotMixx took out both patches and made very clean, well graded and level seams to the original driveway. I was impressed by the way the crew shared tasks, and worked in unison. The result was well executed technically and artistically. Edges were uniform, and a curve was re-created better than the original. The owner stopped by later to inspect the work personally. I'll definitely use them again. read more

Still Waiting. These guys came to my house the first week of January and left the job unfinished, but also caused damage to my yard and fence. The driveway is a mess. Today it is March 25 and they have yet to return to finish the job. So we shall see. I have a digital pr firm and I am still hoping to spread the word about what a great job they did, but it has been three months. Stay tuned. read more

We engaged Hot Mixx two years ago to do our driveway. They did an acceptable job in the work, however, 1 1/2 years later, we had an issue: part of the driveway began to fail. We contacted them, and Kevin, their salesperson came out to examine the issue. He agreed that part of the driveway had been paved too thinly. Because the driveway was out of warranty, they offered to repave the entire driveway with an additional 2" of asphalt to eliminate the issue, along with providing a 2 year warranty. Of course we were not happy to pay additional costs, but thought that the proposal was fair given the amount of work involved. We are now happy with the work they did. Thank Hot Mixx! read more

I hired this company to come out and pave my gravel driveway which is about 3300 Sq Ft, so it's a fairly decent driveway, not a short one. They arrived within the described time I wanted them to show up so my wife could run out and run back before they showed up which worked out. They started by leveling out the gravel and getting it ready and all looked good. They laid out a string and marked a line in a couple different spots. At this point I'm thinking, great professional company. As they started to lay the asphalt they were laying it thick as we agreed on a 2.5 inch layer before being compacted, great. The issues starting to rise when they were tamping the edge at a 45 degree angle, this is where the job fell apart in my eyes. The actual paving of the drive way looks smooth and consistent, the edges on the other hand is a completely different story. There is no consistency to how they put down the "45 degree angle". You would think that the orange line that they sprayed on the gravel would be a good marker to use to keep the asphalt in line but instead they laid the asphalt along the edge of where they leveled the gravel which was all over the place and into the grass. If you look down the edge of either side of my driveway it looks like a wavy line, not just lightly but bad, it doesn't looks smooth at all. I took a picture and sent it to the owner, Wayne, about having an issue with fit and finish. I never got a response but I did have Kevin and a couple crew members show back up at my door all up in arms about the job and full of attitude. I discussed with Kevin about the issues with the edge of the driveway and how inconsistent it looked and all he could tell me was, and these are his words, "looks like the edge of a driveway to me." They went back to the truck and grabbed a torch and a rake, one of the guys asked for the tamper and Kevin said he didn't have it, why would you show up at my door without the right equipment? I'll give it to one of the crew members though; Kenny, passionate about his job it seems as he tried to fix the other guys mistakes as he understood that his mark was getting left on this driveway. I asked him why it turned out this way and he told me that he is only one person and that his crew is pretty lazy. Kenny also walked down the edge of the driveway shaking his head as he told me that they are supposed to clean up the edges to make it look nice and they didn't. My wife is all upset and I'm pretty disappointed in the fit and finish of this job. You would think with all the experience that this company claims to have, I would have a nicely finished driveway rather than a crew that showed up and was in a hurry to get home rather to do the job right. Kind of makes you wonder, had they just spent a little extra time and effort to do it right, this review would have been about 15 words long. But I guess at the end of the day, you get what you pay for. If there is one positive thing that came out of this job, the transition from the garage and walkway are smooth. After some discussion about them coming back to fix the driveway, they did end up coming back and it looks like an improvement but nothing to write home about. Wayne, if you are reading this review, I think you need to reconsider who you have on staff, keep Kenny and hire people that are going to actually care about what they do rather than just make a paycheck. Funny thing, they just did the driveway across the street from me and they left a company sign and blocked off the driveway, two things they didn't do for mine. Gives you an idea that they didn't want to claim my driveway as their work, that should give you an idea about how it turned out. I can only recommend this company if you understand what you are getting out of the deal. If you want something that is more polished, spend the extra and go with a different company. read more

They did such a bad job I have to have another company come back out to fix it AND they crashed into my garage with one of the pieces of equipment severely damaging my brand new siding ($1000 worth of repairs). Yes they paid for the repairs but I didn't give them a choice. I deducted it from their final check. They were horribly unprofessional, impossible to get in touch with and didn't do anything we asked (how far past the garage to pave, the shape of the parking pad, etc). I have called numerous times asking to speak with a manager and none of my calls have been returned. I plan to contact the BBB. read more

The list can go on for the excellent workers and project estimators (Kevin and Mike. Yes, I did request second estimate since I see so many negative reviews) Con: Bad.Bad.Bad receptionist! 1st time: I make an appointment for Friday at 1 for the driveway quote. No one showed up. No phone calls. Nothing until I called them on Monday, and this is what Ashley told me: oh yeh he couldn't make it on Friday. Do you want to reschedule? ( that's it! No apology!) 2nd time: Ashley promised to call me back in a few second to let me know what time to expect the estimator, well, guess what? I didn't hear anything from her until 3 weeks later!!!! And this time she said: oh I'm sorry it's slipped my mind. Do you still wants it done or not? I can get you an appointment but it's up to you. (Wtf I don't know who's she but obviously she got her job secured... Such a careless person.) Tip: don't let the bad front desk people to get in the way. Hot Mixx crews are Excellent! You won't be regret! You will need to do the follow up calls. I know it sounds odds but it's well worth it! I got the same advice from my bff ( she is VERY picky! For her to told me to call these guys again and again... I know they must be class A in results! And they are hands down the best and most polite workers I ever meet! I firmly believe that 1 star is too many for this company. We made the mistake of using this company for a driveway extension. Absolutely poor communication as we had to track them down to do our job after paying them a 50% deposit. They destroyed our yard, left equipment all over the street and even were caught racing their trucks through our neighborhood by one of my neighbors! This company seems to be a scam. We had sent a deposit and signed invoice to have our driveway surfaced. The check was deposited at a liquor store and the owner says that it was his driver and is taking no responsibility. We are filing charges. read more

My husband and I contacted this company to extend our driveway. Unfortunately, the answering service has no contact information for anyone who works there and is only able to send emails to who knows who! Today is the day for Hotmxx to start extending our driveway and wouldn't you know it no one showed up! I called and spoke to Kevin around 9 am this morning and he stated he would call me back as soon as he found out what was going on. Of course, he did not return my call and it is now almost 2 pm. I also called their company number (which is a customer service call center by the way) and requested numerous times speak with a manager or supervisor and neither of the called either. Hired Hotmixx to seal coat, crack fill and re-stripe or commercial parking lot in McLean Virginia. They started out slow on the first day but brought the project home with a larger crew on the second day. I called the owner with a concern and within 30 minutes he had one of his foreman onsite resolving the project. I would recommend Hotmixx for seal coating, crack repair and parking lots striping as they did a really good job. read more

Had a 3200 sq ft driveway resurfaced due to the many cracks and settles in the existing asphalt. Wayne, the owner, came out twice due to my concerns about the cost and options. He gave me a fair price and a very good and professional crew came out the very next day and did the job. They showed up on time and went right to work. The owner Wayne Houston is a METH addict. He uses and physically abuses women, he refuses to pay the people whom have done work for him. He doesn't even have any insurance! Hotmixx was one out 3 companies I contacted about my driveway. Mike from Hotmixx was the first to give me an estimate. And after comparing the estimates and customer service it was clear who I wanted to do my driveway. I needed it done quickly and didn't have time to play phone tag. The following week I had a beautiful new driveway done when are how I wanted it. The best part was I felt comfortable and taking care of which was a first as far as my dealings with contractor's. I called Hotmixx and another paver for estimate. Hotmixx called me the very next morning and we made the appointment. The estimator carefully measured and gave a fair quote that was lower than we budgeted. He also said they could start work the next day and invited me to view another job they were currently working on. I took him up on his offer and drove to address. I was impressed and signed contract. They came, called with an update and finished the job within the timeframe promised. I watched KPop, Boston and crew working as a team and our driveway looks great! BTW the other paver never bothered to call me back. read more
