Nothing was caught (fish 1 -…read morehumans 0), but it was really OK, and I thoroughly enjoyed sitting in my camping chair and watching the fish jump in the air and the world passing by. A few other people were down on the dock casting for fish, others sat on the various rock formations sort of zoning out, and it was a real pleasure to see the children and parents sharing something they really loved. If the youngsters aren't interested in the fishing, they can come down and feed the ducks - such fun. The water is so clear you can see down to rocks and plants on the bottom and also nearest the dock flashes of the goldfish as they glide along (these goldfish eventually grow into some very large carp). There are evidently some sturgeon as well along with the rainbow trout, and also lots of ducks and other water birds (a few still with babies). Oh yes, lots of dragonflies - flashes of black and fiery orange red - add to the charm. People who fish welcome you right into their society and talk readily about their fishing experiences and how the big one got away and even why. This is a terrific family experience and for those who want to come out alone. The best time is to come early, before 7, and especially after the lake has been re-stocked, if you want to catch some fish. But like I said, it's a wonderful experience whether fish are caught or not. Give it a try. And remember if you don't catch any fish, you can hike back up to the shopping center above and get some breakfast. Not a bad day at all, in fact a damn fine one if you ask me.

There's ample space in Apple parking and if you want to take a break from the playground and there's plenty of trails that walk around the river you can make some loops and more. There's also plenty of covered areas for birthday parties barbecues, or just get together which you can reserve at the beginning of the year they fill up fast.

Many can walk around, bring their own boats/kayaks/SUP to launch off the ramp, fish on the river, or have a picnic. It's beautiful here, but it's also very popular over the summer months when folks want to use this place to launch off the ramp. Parking is hard to find. At this spot, you can rent through the Tualatin Riverkeepers. They provided life vests and the kayak of our choice. It was great paddling out on the water with my kid. We stayed pretty close by, so the water was really calm and beginner friendly. We didn't venture past the freeway underpass, we went to the right side from the boat launch. Some parts are so shallow you hit some rocks. This park also offers soccer fields and an updated inclusive family playground. Highly recommend coming here.

Herman was kind and considerate even though we were a bunch of duffers fishing Buoy 10. I have seen Herman get hit in the head with a 16oz. lead from a customers fishing line, break his rods and even lose the rod entirely. He's always cool under pressure and gracious. The fish can be sparse and the customers demanding but is very hard working and generous with the bait. I have fished with plenty other guys and they can be grumpy and it's 8 hours of hell. However, there's a parking area a few blocks up the from the entrance. At the entrance of the park, there's a nice playground, which is closed right now due to COVID. There's also a portapotty, but no real bathroom. We came on a Saturday morning and enjoyed a quick hike around the island with our three year old and six week old daughters. My three year old loved jumping around the rocks and watching the boats go by on the river. There were a lot of families fishing and splashing in the river, but there was plenty of space to spread out from other people. It's a great spot for a picnic.

I was panicking thinking I'd have to go way out of my way and be even later to the lake than I was to begin with. But my boyfriend saved the day because he said just stop at Fisherman's. I said "what's Fisherman's." Lol. He told me where it was and immediately I knew WHERE it was but I had never, EVER seen it. Thankfully it was SO easy to find the tanks (albeit I bought butane vs propane...and had to go back to exchange it) and I was in and out. As I said I bought the WRONG tanks. But it was SO easy to go back and exchange them! I even saved a few dollars since the ones I needed were less! I'll definitely be going to Fisherman's for camping needs going forward!
