DoubleTree by Hilton Rome Monti - King Deluxe room

    DoubleTree by Hilton Rome Monti

    Termini, Centro Storico

If you are wanting to stay at a full-service, Hilton branded hotel property while in Rome without…read moregoing bankrupt doing so, The Doubletree Hotel by Hilton Rome Monti would be a solid choice. By Rome standards for a full-service hotel, it would be considered affordable by many. But just to be clear, it is not ultra-inexpensive. For the money, it is firmly in the 4-star hotel genre (getting a 5-star Yelp rating from me within this category because I could find nothing wrong with it during my stay). So, while it may not have crystal chandeliers and butlers running around, it is definitely not a student tourist level hostel. It has modern, comfortable public spaces, elevators that hold more than 2 people at a time, a restaurant with a good breakfast spread, and well-appointed guest rooms with modern amenities and AC. I really don't need more than that when I am traveling solo for business so it was perfect for me given that set of circumstances. As a comparison, I have stayed at a 5-star Rome hotel which was absolutely a step up in terms of service, luxury features, and a sense of a personal attention. But when I am alone on business, that level of service is not necessary and can feel uncomfortable to me. There are plenty of cafe's and restaurants within a 10 min walk and it is a reasonable walk to attractions such as the Opera House, the Coliseum, and the Trevi Fountain. It is also a 10-minute walk to the main terminal Rome train station and the cool, local Nuovo Mercato Esquilino if you are into that type of thing like I am. I spent early mornings walking somewhere for coffee and then through the Mercato to watch the vendors work to ready their produce and meat to be pawed over by early restauranteurs which was a cool look at the underbelly life of this great city. I really liked that this hotel is not right up against the busy street and, on at least 2 sides of the building, there are streets that are not constantly jammed with the noise of traffic. My room fronted one of the quiet sides. It is unclear to me if I was upgraded to a nicer than standard room location because of my Hilton loyalty status but I had a very quiet stay in a room that was impeccably clean and could be easily darked out during the day if I needed a restorative nap for my jet lag. The gym was reasonably appointed and open 24/7 and the wi-fi speed was top notch. I had a great stay here for the money. Based on all of this, when in Rome in the future as a solo business traveler, I would be very happy to stay here again.

That made the location extremely convenient. The hotel sits a short walk from Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore, where Pope Francis is buried. Some areas near the main train station are often described as unsafe by Italian standards. We did not experience that near the hotel. Tourists and locals were out late, and the neighborhood stayed active into the evening. Rome is compact and easy to navigate. Most major attractions felt reachable within about 20 minutes by taxi, bus, or rail. We tried to visit the Trevi Fountain at 10:00 pm to avoid crowds. That plan failed completely(see pic). It was packed. Locals eat later than in the U.S., and many parts of the city stay busy well into the night. Restaurants remain open late. A note for U.S. travelers. European hotel rooms run smaller for the price. Even using Hilton points, our room would have cost close to $700 per night USD and felt small. The hotel offers a pleasant rooftop bar and a spacious lobby with multiple seating areas. The buffet breakfast was a solid, comfortable way to start the day. It was included for us as Hilton Diamond members. I am unsure of the cash price. Overall, the location and amenities make this a smart pre-cruise choice, especially for travelers relying on rail connections.

First trip to Rome and we wanted to try to find a hotel that was centrally located to be a tourist…read moreand we ended up booking this particular Best Western. It's located pretty close to the Vatican. From the airport you can catch a van for 50 Euros or you can e-mail the hotel ahead of time to get a car service. Our car service never showed up. Apparently with the time difference and how often everyone checks e-mail, they didn't realize we needed to be picked up. You enter through the doors and infront of you is a staircase that goes up to the rooms, to your right is a sloped ramp to their main sitting lobby. The receptionist is there to check you in. They were always very pleasant to deal with. Check in is in the afternoon so you have time to walk around before hand. They do have a laptop you can use in the lobby to browse the net. They also have free wifi. The codes only last a 2-3 days and then you have to go get a new one. They do have a printer too in the lobby but at the time of our visit, it wasn't working. They do have a collection of music you can borrow in the lobby and they usually put out some snacks and drinks in the afternoon in that area. The very good thing for us American travelers.. free breakfast. Not just pastries.. but they actually had some eggs, bacon, sandwich meat, rolls, fruit, pastries, cereals, water, juice, and they have an espresso bar that they can make you something. That was very nice. Added bonus to this particular Best Western. The eating area is not so big but there are maybe enough to fit 8 groups. It is located behind the lobby and the elevator for the hotel is located right there as well. The rooms are nice. We weren't able to get a balcony but we did open our window to see neighbors across the way. The room had a high ceiling. Very clean design with the wood floors, an open shelving unit to hang your clothes and put your suitcase. There is a safe in the room as well. A small desk in the corner with chair. Drums as our nightstands were cute. There is a mini frig with drinks inside. Charge you of course but enough room to put a bottle of water we bought from the store in there. TV with stereo system on the wall area infront of the bed. Thin blankets for the warm weather I assume. The bathroom surprised us for sure with the blue light and disco ball spinning. Very nice though. Definitely not use to the Rome toilets where it is 2 piece. The first day we flushed it... you could hear the pipes getting very loud after you flush. The next day it started to leak and the sound was getting louder. It was leaking for maybe 2 days. The sound was like that the whole week. The second night we went to bed having showered with cold water. There was no hot water than night or the next morning. They tried to fix it by looking and it but then just telling us not to touch it or move the handle. The bidet was not a pleasant smell at all. It made the bathroom smell like urine the whole time. Also, beware they do use square toilet paper pieces, not rolls! The hotel was okay for the price. It is clean, the staff is friendly... they do speak english but not everyone. Free wifi is awesome. They do have a private car service they can call to get you to the airport for 50 euros which is almost the same price as a cab. Just tell them the day before you leave or arrive. Free breakfast is great. Bed was kinda hard. But with all the walking you'll do... you won't really notice for long. The only major issues were all with the bathroom: noisy pipes, leaking toilet, no hot water for 2 days, stinky bidet

My wife and I stayed at the RC 7-8 years ago, and had such a great experience that we rejected the La Dolce Vita associated hotel La Minerva in favor of returning this summer for our holiday that started in Rome. Some notable personnel - Nicola - front desk - provided great assistance with our needs for cash exchanges, adapter use and a very surprising tour of our upgrade to the Penthouse. Serena - Imperial Club - friendly, and energetic. Attended and anticipated our needs, such as private car service due to taxi strike. Annamarie- front desk - attentive, friendly and walked us to the outdoor restaurant one evening. Matteo - coordinated receipt of an important package for my wife. Many others contributed to this brief, but memorable stay. Congratulations on assembling a great team! We hope to return again in the future.

The company sent a 10-passenger van instead of a sedan. A taxi would have been more comfortable, a shorter walk from the terminal, and half the price. When I complained to the hotel, they said the van was the same price as a Mercedes sedan so I would be charged the same. This seemed like a bait and switch to me. Had I known the vehicle would be a van, I would have taken a taxi.

That being said our stay at the Hotel Pineta was amazing. Every day we would wake up, get some breakfast and cappuccino from the dining hall, and set out on our exploration of the city. Upon our return we would return to our room (very clean room and bathroom, they do daily housekeeping) and rest. Before the day was over we would visit the bar on the main floor. The sommelier, Mr. Massimo would always be there to prepare refreshments for my wife and I. He is always a pleasure to talk to and would be there if we had any questions regarding our stay or general questions about the city. Truly one of the memorable experiences and by the end it was sad for us as we left as we felt we had made a friend . I highly recommend this hotel for anyone looking to stay in Rome and not break the bank without sacrificing the quality of customer service and overall experience. We would definitely stay here again!

The room was spacious and had a balcony which I could imagine using more frequently had we been there a bit longer. Breakfast buffet was pretty good with the typical spread of croissants, pies, breads, cereal, milk, yogurt, eggs, cheese, ham, and bacon. Juice, water, expresso, and cappuccino you can get easily at a machine and have refills. We dined at the restaurant and although service was slow the food was excellent for being a hotel restaurant. My son and I did want to go shopping but there was not too many places close by and the mall we visited was similar to ours back home. Rome is a very busy city so taking a cab anywhere in traffic can get pricey. I would likely not stay here again due to the fact that it is further away from the places I'd like to go (Spanish Steps). But did find the accommodations more than sufficient and the staff was courteous.
