This hotel is at a wonderful location. It's less than a 20-minute walk from the Firenze SMN train station. It's very close to Ponte Vecchio, like 2 blocks and less than 3-minute walk. Staying in the main building is easy because there is one small elevator that takes you up to the third floor. However staying at the adjacent building is tougher because you need to access more stairs (no elevator). I stayed in a room in the annex. I think this room would be great for families because the bedrooms were separated. There was a small are through the first door. Then there was a second door. The first bedroom had a double bed. The second room had a sofa that turned into a bed. There were two bathrooms - one bathroom had a shower and toilet, the other only had a toilet. Upon first impression, the space was very cold and echoey. There were high ceilings and high windows. We turned up the heat and lights and the place felt more cozy. Noise is not an issue for me, but I could hear everything outside. I feel like noise in the alleys get amplified because of the walls. One night at midnight, I heard "chug! chug! chug!" At 7:00 AM, I heard the bells ringing. Especially from our room in the second floor annex, this could be an issue for light sleepers. Breakfast is provided. I found the breakfast room very cozy. There was staff to make cappuccinos every morning. I enjoyed the food selection; it was very simple but filling. Another bonus about this hotel is the tower (torre). From the breakfast room, you can climb more stairs to reach a rooftop terrace where you can have a cool view of Florence, including the duomo and clock tower. From the adjacent building, there is another terrace that you can access from clear/see-through stairs. read more

Quaint hotel close to the Uffizi. Stayed here for two nights and had a really pleasant stay. Our room was a four-person one, and had a queen size bed in addition to two twins. You're given a physical key (only one available). There was an air conditioner. The shower had good pressure and there is a mini fridge. There's a small elevator as well as stairs going up the four levels. Breakfast is available and there is a tower that's open 24/7 with an amazing view of the city. I would recommend coming up here during sunset. There's bar service until 9pm and they give free peanuts. Shoutout to Vivian who kept everything at breakfast running smoothly. She did an excellent job of checking in on everyone even when all of the tables were full while maintaining a cheerful, pleasant demeanor (and she even does all of the cooking!). Her in was similarly amazing and made a great cup of cappuccino. There were scrambled eggs and bacon in addition to all of the pastries (get the pistachio croissant), yogurts, cereals, and cold cuts/veggies. There's a 6 euro charge per person per night for the city tax (cash or card accepted). They have luggage storage available. Check in is at 2pm. The front desk was friendly and helpful. My wife and I traveled to Florence and Rome in 10/25 and booked the entire 10 days on our own (flights, hotels (2) and tour tickets for both cities) and could not have been more satisfied choosing Hotel Torre Guelfa for our stay in Florence! It's location is just minutes to ALL major sites, museums, and the Ponte Vecchio is just a 5 minute stroll away! We had a unique two-story room in the adjoining annex from the main building with two king size beds, 1 full bath + PR, and access to a balcony with a view of the city! The room was modern, clean & turned down everyday. The Front Desk service was professional, courteous, and very helpful for us "1st time starters." The Breakfast Room was convenient and offered a great blend of traditional Italian & American breakfast foods. The "Tower" is a must DO! The view of the city is priceless! A great hotel & Florence experiance. Our only regret, we only stayed 3 nights before returing to Rome. Should have stayed 2 more nights. read more

The best-kept secret no more. Hotel Torre Guelfa has one of the best panoramic views of Firenze. But you have to be in shape to climb these narrow and seem to be never-ending stairs. Once you get to the top, there is a very cramped bar-like area where you can order drinks and enjoy the breathtaking view of the city. Make sure to go there for the spectacular night view. read more

The location and the view from the tower are awesome. The tower has one of the best views in the city and they serve wine! We stayed here with a Rick Steve's tour and again when we returned. The breakfast was good and the staff had some great restaurant recommendations. read more

This hotel is just OK. It is in a good location. Our room was decent, however, they forgot to make up the room two out of the four nights we stayed here. Also, the concept of getting some ice for our room seemed somewhat challenging for them. If the breakfast spread they had was not absolutely superb, which it was, I probably would only give two stars. This was definitely not the nicest hotel we stayed at of the four destinations we traveled through Italy. read more

We absolutely loved our stay here! The location is close to everything, and the staff is incredibly nice and helpful. Our room was a decent size and unique. Very clean, quiet and warm. Very old world feeling! The view from the top is amazing, and the formal living room is a beautiful place to relax. Breakfast was wonderful. The absolute best choice I could of ever made! Wonderful staff! Especially the guys who tend the small bar at the top of the tower... I swear I had 30 questions about Florence for one of them and he patiently answered every single one! The living room in the 3rd floor was a gorgeous place to hang out. Climbing the tower was a thrill for the whole family and once you're up there you realize this is the best view! You are literally right in the center of everything! We had a lovely 2 room suite. Couldn't of asked for better! Oh, and the owner of the hotel gives leaves you a complimentary copy of his book which is a best seller over there. Nice personal touch... We left with a Italian and a English version. read more

Terrible the beds are hard and springs are in my back. The toilette does not flush you have to hit a button 5 times in order for it to even try. Location is ok. But when are walking so much an uncomfortable hotel bed is not going to help with rest after a long day. Would not recommend!! read more

It's surprising how one bad experience can color a trip with negative memories. We were on a lovely group tour through Venice, Florence and Rome. In Florence we stayed at Torre Guelfa near the Ponte Vecchio--a perfect location! Our room (102) and bathroom were huge with high ceilings. After small rooms in previous hotels we were thrilled with this luxurious space. However the mid-October temperature was in the 50's and we were cold. There was a heater in both our bedroom and bath but no controls. We inquired at the desk how we might add heat to our room. We were told that management doesn't turn on the heat until later in October. We were given two blankets which we draped around ourselves as we sat in the room! We immediately noticed that to get even tepid water in the bath sink it was necessary to run the water for several minutes . Even then we never got hot water. I choose to take a shower on the second morning. After running the water for 3 minutes it still was cold and the bath floor was flooded because the shower door leaked. Didn't get a shower during my stay at Torre Guelfa. Waited for Rome! So despite the hotel's many benefits such as a delicious breakfast, fabulous location, and beautiful sitting room, we left Torre Guefla with unhappy memories. We will also recommend to the tour organizer that they reconsider their Florence hotel. read more

Oh my... I do not even know where to begin my review of Hotel Torre Guelfa. Their hotel staff is as accommodating as a swarming beehive. Upon check in- I was greeted rather rudely and told that my Expedia reservation at the hotel was messed up and the room only had one person registered to it and that there would be an additional charge of 15 EURO Per Person Per Night as a city tax. This was not the best welcome I have received at a hotel but figured it was a local policy in Florence and said OK. Things only went downhill from there, when I got to the room, I found black hairs uncleaned from the previous occupant on the bed. The sheets are extremely thin, and the mattress was not comfortable. Don't bother utilizing the "free breakfast" (more on that later); the breakfast is essentially just juice and bread. The worst part of the experience was during check out. During my last night I noticed a sign in the elevator saying there is a local tax of 2,50 EURO per person, I thought this was rather strange since at the time of check in the staff told me that local tax was 15 EURO per person. So I did some research before going to bed and noticed online they do not have any local tax for 15 EURO and the hotel did not charge a different rate on Expedia for two people. Understandably I was upset, and at check-out, I wanted to get an explanation of this charge, and I spoke with the hotel manager who rather rudely explained that this charge is mandatory because the second guest would use "extra towels" and was the charge for the "FREE" breakfast buffet. I managed to compose myself at the hilariously ridiculous rationale for charging someone an extra 15 EURO per night. I explained we did not utilize any extra towels for the second guest or use the "free" breakfast. The manager then started to SCREAM AT ME in the lobby and shouted that how the extra charge was my fault because I did not fight it at Check-In and that they would refuse to refund the 15 Euro extra person fee per night. I have never been treated so rudely in my entire life at a hotel, no matter what the issue is, it is completely inappropriate to yell at a guest on vacation. Luckily, I booked my trip with Expedia and I once I told them this story they immediately refunded me the Extra Person Fee. As someone who has visited Florence many times, book somewhere else. Florence is an amazing city full of charm with many great places to stay. Unfortunately, this is not one of them. read more

This hotel literally took my breath away! The rooftop deck has one of the best views of Florence. You have to climb up a windy, narrow staircase to get there but it's totally worth it. The daily breakfast of coffee and delicious pastries was a nice way to start our day. The staff is so friendly and attentive and the afternoon "happy hour" is a nice way to get to know the staff and other guests. The rooms are small but nicely appointed and the location doesn't get better-walking distance to the Ponte Vecchio and Uffizi Gallery. The medieval charm is something you obviously don't get back in the states. I would highly recommend this place to anyone visiting Florence and would love to go back one day. read more

This hotel is very close to the Ponte Vecchio and the Uffizi. Florence is a very walkable city and it was nice to have a hotel so close to the center of town. The ceilings are very high, and the breakfast was very good. The added bonus of this hotel is the view from the rooftop deck, which is open 24 hours. They do serve beverages from 6:30 pm to 10:30 pm nightly but you can go up at any time. It is about four floors up a windy staircase from the third floor but the view is amazing since you can see the entire city, and I took advantage of this to capture the sunrise one morning. The front desk staff was extremely helpful, and they even reserved our tickets to the Uffizi and Academia for us before our visit. Yes, you can reserve them online on your own but you have to pay an extra 5 Euro per ticket. I thought of asking the hotel to book the tickets for us for both museums, and this ended up saving us 30 Euros since there were three of us. We were in room 302, which is right next to the breakfast. If I stay there again, I would get a room that was further away from the breakfast room. read more
