My wife and I were two travelers looking for a short-notice booking in Florence toward the beginning of the heavy tourist season. After visiting a few other options near the train station (all full), we happened upon this second-floor pensione and were lucky to meet Gabriele, the A++ manager of La Scala. Having backpacked through many European cities over three years and having stayed at places of varying quality, we found Gabriele to be by far the most cordial, helpful and hospitable hotelier we had yet encountered who gave us a fair price for the room and recommended a place to eat around the corner. He's a fun guy to talk to, has loads of personality and personifies old-world warmth and - above all - sincerity.
Our room (no. 6) was off the street, quiet and comfortable. Looking out the rear window you have a nice, relaxing few of adjacent rooftops and lush, green gardens. Florence isn't too bad to get around anyway, but this location is close enough to the Ponte Vecchio, cathedral, and the museums to make for a pleasant walk. read more
