Facilities are dirty, much of the staff is rude, and pricing is misleading. The 'spa' - Smells of mildew and is not well lit. But if you use a flashlight and look at the jacuzzi, you'll see black scum around the water line and even the jet bubbles are black and brown. Then it makes sense they have such dim lighting. The sauna has an odor but overall usable. There isn't a proper place to change though there is a little nook with a sliding door. However, if staff catches you using the door, you will be scolded because it is 'not for touching'. The main entrance to the 'spa' room is not locked nor managed by an attendant. Anyone (of any age and of any gender) can come in at any time. The elevator - Some days there was a paper sign on the door saying '2 people only'. Inside the elevator, above the door, there is a sign that says 3 (written in pen) people max. Above the buttons inside the elevator, is a plaque that says 4 people maximum. It turns out, if more than 2 people are in the elevator it has a significant risk of getting stuck. The staff - Front desk gentleman and woman were friendly and did their best to accommodate. They were also helpful with answering questions. The males that work in the kitchen area were friendliest. Two young women typically looked terrified, angry, and about to cry. The woman in charge of the kitchen was petty, arrogant, and unpleasant to be around. Her name was Maria (I would advocate for her to be removed from the service industry). The ambiance and area - Because the hotel is ski in/out, the couple bars and restaurants close by 5pm daily along with the ski lift. At this time, you become quite literally trapped in the hotel. The rooms are very cramped and feel old and dusty. It's not a place you'll want to hang out in the evening. The lobby has seating area, but the sofas were very low to the ground and not comfortable. There is a TV room, the sofas there were equally low, very worn and sunk in, and the fabric belonged in your great grandmothers attic. So between 5pm and sleeping... you'll have plenty of time to regret not having stayed in Cervinia instead.

The pool and spa area were also incredible, especially the heated outdoor pool, which we spent hours in. Service was top notch - every time we called the front desk, they were immediately responsive and able to help get us whatever we needed. It's expensive but if you're willing to splurge, highly recommend!

We spent 2 nights at this hotel as part of a Viking Cruise extension. The hotel is well located for…read moretourists as it's very near the rail stations (the shuttle in and the Gornergrat Bahn, which goes to the glacier, with several stops). We stayed in mid-August and had a room with a balcony facing the main drag. This means a Matterhorn view when weather permits. We were fortunate to have good weather. Since there's no air conditioning at the hotel, having a window open is necessary on hot summer evenings. Unfortunately, there's always lots of activity on the main street so the noise level may bother some people if a window and/or balcony door are left open for ventilation. The hotel is luxurious but some areas have eclectic decor. We enjoyed the comfortable king bed, the ice cold tap water, and the quick hot water. The bathroom had niceties like a heated floor and heated towel rack, but the toiletries were inferior. We missed having an in-room safe. Our room and en suite bathroom were spacious by most European standards. Hanging and drawer space were adequate, and there were USB ports for charging electronics. Breakfast was included with our accommodations and was a buffet (actually 2 buffet set-ups, with one having gluten free selections) plus a choice of individually prepared eggs. While the selection of hot and cold foods was good, the food in the buffet chafing dishes was far from hot during our visit. There are 2 elevators serving the 4 guest floors in the hotel, so there can be backups during group check-ins and checkouts. This happened for our group and for at least one other we saw. The stairs are adjacent to the elevator, but the poor lighting in the stairwell made for an uncomfortable experience. We didn't use any of the spa facilities. While we enjoyed our stay, I might consider a different hotel if I return to Zermatt.

We really appreciated the attentiveness of the staff/cleaning/refills of items such as towels and tea bags. Our room was well appointed and spacious, with a ton of space for luggage, clothing storage, etc. One caveat and lesson learned, is that we booked a junior suite with Matterhorn view. Unfortunately we never saw the Matterhorn due to bad weather until the day we left. To clarify, this is no fault of the hotel's at all, but if we had known we wouldn't have wasted the money for the view. The AYCE breakfast for all guests is so delicious. We ate it 5 days in a row and never got sick of it. Great selection of European and western style breakfast items, and you can order eggs to your style. We tried dinner in the restaurant one night and that was good as well, even the simple items such as the salad. The amenities were great as well. The access to the spa was so nice for rainy days or after a hike. The area is generously sized with many different treatments, though wish the jacuzzi water temperature was hotter. Lastly, the staff are incredibly nice. Always greeting you and patiently helping with any questions. Definitely recommend staying here!
