    Ceiling pouring water

Had a weekend in Spokane and thought we'd stay at Hotel Ruby. It was my wife and I in one room and our friends in another. First night our friends mentioned their wifi was unbearable. We also find out the room AC unit make whining noises all night. Great. The next day we thought we'd try out their free bikes. Turns out the bike I was on had loose handlebars. In my ride around town I found out I not only had a flat tire, but the inner tube was leaking. Thankful the local auto shop pumped it up for free, lasted just long enough to make it home. Next night my wife and I heard water dripping from the bathroom. We thought it was just the thin walls and that we were hearing the neighbors. Turns out it was the ceiling leaking from upstairs. Great. They place us in another room. Thank you. The handy man follow up with us to find out where it was leaking. Looks pretty obvious to me. He says he apparently fixed the upstairs room recently. I don't think it worked. As soon we get there we find out the wifi doesn't work. I ask and the girl at the front, Valeria?, she states they've been having issues as they have a new provider or something. Says she would maybe upgrade us and keep me posted on the wifi status. I never get a call and we never get upgraded. We follow up later on and the next girl at the front has no idea what we're talking about. If all you need is a mattress, here's your spot. But lower all your expectations.

    "Boutique" level bathroom cleaning!
    Pity D.

Purchasing an old, run-down, fleabag motel, attaching a bar to it and slapping some non-traditional paint colors on it does not make it "boutique" nor does it magically change it into a "hotel". And the cheapskate that owns this dump knows it. There is nothing boutique or hotel-like about this place. The professional shyster/owner of this place simply took an old dump of a motel, painted it black and red, hung some giant murals on the outside walls, put some new tile in the shower and decided he was the owner of a "boutique hotel". He didn't even bother to touch up the extremely filthy and run-down paint in the bathrooms. Or bother to fix interior doors that are literally falling apart. I've never seen a boutique hotel that has the cheapest industrial carpeting available, bad budget leather couches leftover from the 90's or the same grimy, filthy wall switches that have been in the motel for 500 years (and never been cleaned). I've also never seen one that has the exact same room layout that it has had since the 60's, complete with uselessly tiny sinks, bad baby diarrhea colored formica countertops, tank-less toilets, or the smallest fucking bathroom I've ever seen anywhere (including in third world countries and cramped European hotels). The cheaper-than-IKEA ultra low quality furniture doesn't help either. Literally the most minimal amount of effort was put into doing a basic sprucing up of this turd before slapping the "boutique hotel" title on it. The amount of effort put into turning the ruby into anything that remotely resembles a boutique motel warrants a D -. Maybe even an F + Checked in late at night only to find I had to park several blocks away at the sister property because there was no parking left. At check out a few days later found that I had to pay $5 extra per night for this privilege. The shyster who owns this dump has no qualms about failing to disclose anywhere during the booking process that parking is extra $$ or parking several blocks away is also extra $$. I refused to pay it. The lady at the front desk whined, but I simply asked her to show me where in the booking process the parking fee is mentioned. She couldn't. If you need to connect to the internet to get some work done or even do something as simple as check your email, forget about it. You're SOL. The 1993 dial-up speeds of the internet in this sham of a motel are virtually unusable. The staff isn't much better. During the late night check in, I asked the dude at the front desk where I could take my dogs to go pee. He had no clue. Stellar service for a "hotel" that promotes itself as being dog-friendly. Ended up walking around downtown Spokane for literally half an hour at 1:00 in the morning trying to find any tiny patch of grass or dirt for my dogs to take a leak. Ended up finding one within a block of the Ruby Motel. The spectacular hospitality you'll find at this glorified motel also includes loaner bikes of which only half have functioning brakes or inflated tires, and an uber-cheap "continental breakfast" that is frequently handled by glove-less employees who do not wash their hands before handling the food. If you're an exhibitionist, you'll love the incompetent housekeepers that knock on your door literally as they are opening it. The owner of this dump either knows nothing about hospitality or is too greedy to care. Don't be deceived by glorified pictures on the Ruby website or glowing reviews from people who can't tell the difference between a "boutique hotel" and a run-down motel.

When I told my taxi driver that I was staying at Hotel Ruby, his response was: "on purpose?" Apparently, the old time Spokane residents remember the Ruby as it's former sketchy motel self, but I can assure you it's perfectly safe, and clean, and pleasant and best of all CHEAP. For $70-80 a night, you can't find a better deal in town. It's certainly no Davenport, but it definitely does the job. The rooms are nice & modern, with some sweet amenities like: - free continental breakfast, with locally roasted coffee - on-site parking - hotel bar: Sapphire Lounge, with free drink coupon when you check-in - free wifi - free bikes for guest use - 10% off your total stay Yelp check in offer!!! If you're a self-sufficient traveler and don't need a ton of the concierge-style frills, Hotel Ruby will be perfectly suitable. Don't fear, it's much nicer than the price suggests!

Room 201, Monday night double occupancy stay + parking = $91

Cute little boutique hotel. Very artistic and tasteful. Staff was friendly and the rooms were clean. Parking on the weekends may be a problem given that the lot was full on a Monday night. The elevator is impractical and doesn't appear to be wheelchair accessible. Had a decent complimentary breakfast that included DIY waffles, hard boiled eggs, English muffins, fruits, juice, and good coffee. Would stay again. FYI, you get 10% off your entire stay when you check in on Yelp, as long as you book directly through the hotel and not through a third party company (e.g., Hotels.com, etc.).

They were told someone would come up with fresh sheets. When staff finally arrived, all they brought was a single top sheet -- wet and smelling strongly of bleach. The employee left before my parents could say anything else, and no additional bedding was provided. They had no choice but to put the damp, bleach‑smelling sheet on the bed and try to sleep. We stayed on the top floor facing north with a view below of the First Interstate Center which is a short journey using the covered skywalk. It wasn't busy at this time in early February and the common areas were quiet, though we've been there during New Year's Eve when it's pretty bustling. We usually book the Penthouse King Suite with fireplace, which is as spacious as a small apartment with 2 bathrooms and a kitchenette/bar area with mini fridge. Rooms have always been spotless. The bed is super comfortable. Robes are provided as well as extra blankets. We always bring our own Firestick with us when we travel, but we've noticed in every room that we've ever stayed at here that the TV input is not able to be changed to accommodate plugging into the HDMI port. Table 13 restaurant was closed for renovations, but the dining lounge was open and we get consistently good service and food at a reasonable price there. Room service breakfast for two cost about $70 (including service fee and tip) for a full breakfast entree, a fruit plate, and a kid's plate of pancakes. I wish that parking was more economical. At $28 per night, it's a bit steep. For comparison, we stayed the next night at the nearby Montvale Hotel where parking is $10 in their lot. Overall a very nice hotel and conveniently located in downtown Spokane.

Located on the south side of the river and what appears to be the heart of downtown, it was relatively easy to get to, and literally across the street from where we were seeing a show. The place is really large with something like 14 or 15 levels, and a room that we very much enjoyed! The beds were large, the mattresses were really nice and the view was lovely! The shower was also quite solid. It was one that did not have a door, but was fashioned such that you didn't get water all over the bathroom floor. It also had one of the best showerheads we've ever experienced! It was like getting sprayed off with a warm hose. It was a bummer that they didn't have a pool and hot tub here, but the workout facilities were really nice, and if you are looking for a pool, staying here, you get access to the pool and hot tub at the sister hotel downtown. We didn't make use of it, but it's a nice offer. We were about five minutes from downtown, and walked to a couple of restaurants for both dinner and breakfast. Parking was easy with an option for self parking or valet. The parking garage was connected to the building, and overall made things very easy. I really went back-and-forth between a four and five on this property, but overall it was a really nice spot with nice amenities and the pool was really the only thing that was lacking. It gets the five star bump!

It was built in 1899, was abandoned for decades, and renovated. They did a beautiful job keeping up the historic aspects of the furnishings, and even the music in the halls was a little spooky. But rest assured, there were no spirits haunting our unit! Our room was adjacent to the Events Center and the building is structured such that we didn't hear the noise from the event going on at the time unless we put our ear to their door down the hall. It is easy to get lost because our room was in the 300's numbers but on the second floor, while other rooms in the 300's are on the third floor.
